  • Patent number: 5704173
Abstract: A flush-mounted articulated window assembly for use in a vehicle, the window assembly adapted to be mounted in a window opening such that, when closed, it is generally flush with the exterior surface of the vehicle. The window assembly includes a transparent sheet with at least one window-mounting member bonded by two separate adhesives to an inner surface of the sheet. The mounting member includes projections which space the mounting member from the inner sheet surface, and/or perforations which allow air and moisture to reach the space provided between the mounting member and the inner sheet surface. A first adhesive temporarily fixtures the mounting member to the sheet. A second adhesive permanently bonds the mounting member to the inner sheet surface. The bond created is sufficiently strong such that application of a load sufficient to cause a failure results in a failure other than in the adhesion of the adhesive to the mounting member and the panel.

  • Patent number: 5688016
Abstract: In effectuating a urethane bond for an auto gripper molding of a type constructed of rubber a crown heretofore used to cover the gap surrounding the windshield peripheral edge is not used for a gap-covering function and instead the windshield-attached gripper molding is installed upside down and the crown is thus seated inside of the gap and in this position the cured urethane mechanically interlocks with notches providing in the surface of the crown in facing relation to the urethane. The interlocking prevents both unseating movement in the installed windshield and also gap-exposing movement in the crown as might allow undesirable water seepage into the gap.

  • Patent number: 5631088
Abstract: A material used to fabricate sashes used by window assemblies. The material comprises a foam core covered by a cladding material. The foam core acts as a filler and provides insulation, while the cladding material protects the foam core from the environment and physical abuse. Often, a structural assembly or member is provided to stiffen the sash material. The cladding and structural assembly are placed into a mold and resin is injected into the mold between the cladding and the structural assembly. The resin cures to form the foam core. The foam core bonds the cladding and structural assembly together to form the sash material. The sash material is cut with woodworking tools to form a sash for a window assembly. The cladding is configured such that, when the window assembly is installed in a wall, interior vapor barrier material and exterior air barrier material applied to the wall overlap with the cladding material to reduce air flow through the wall around the window assembly.

  • Patent number: 5620794
Abstract: The invention provides a releasable adhesive joint between two elements. The two elements are fixed to each other by means of an adhesive bead or by means of two or more adhesive beads. The adhesive joint comprises a heatable separating member closely fitting the adhesive bead or embedded in the adhesive bead, or closely fitting or embedded in one of the adhesive beads. The heatable separating member looses the adhesion to the closely fitting parts of the adhesive joint or is destroyed upon heating the heatable separating member to a temperature at which the adhesive bead is not yet damaged, thus releasing the parts of the adhesive bead closely fitting the heatable separating member. This releasable adhesive joint is especially useful in fixing vehicle glass panes to a vehicle body frame.
