Abstract: This invention pertains to a panelized modular construction system which employs a variety of square, rectangular and triangular panel shapes related to each other, being derived from a common grid subdivided cube. Combining these shapes of thickness practical for architectural application, these panels must be capable of being joined in many different angles and combinations along their sides, and in an unlimited combinations of angles at their corners. This construction system eliminates the strut and node framework typically found in many modular structures based on the geometry of various polyhedral forms. Located in the space between the sides of panels being joined, are simple connecting elements, independent of the panels, employed so as to join panels to each other in a manner that easily accommodate varying numbers and dihedral angles through almost 360 degrees.

  • Patent number: 5613337
Abstract: A shingle is formed with a first, or trailing, side edge folded over toward the top surface of the shingle to catch moisture and direct it down to the top surface of the next lower shingle. A second, or leading, side edge of the shingle is not folded. An "S" shaped fold, spaced apart from the trailing edge fold, receives the unfolded leading edge of an adjacent shingle. The trailing edge and S fold form a gutter under the leading edge of the adjacent shingle. The top edge of the shingle is folded-over toward the top surface of the shingle for engagement with the folded-under lower edge of the next higher shingle. The folded-over top edge extends to the right or leading edge of the shingle and slides under the left edge of the folded-over top edge of the next adjacent shingle to the fight side. The folded-under lower edge extends along the lower edge of the shingle but leaves a gap relative to the folded-under lower edge of the lateral adjacent shingle.

  • Patent number: 5606829
Abstract: A decompression panel is releasably secured in a decompression opening of a partition structure by means of mounting elements that can release the panel in either a blow-in or a blow-out direction. A perimeter frame bridges the area at the perimeter of the panel and overlaps the edges of the panel and of the partition structure around the decompression opening. Respective pairs of mounting elements are arranged near the edge of the panel and the edge of the partition structure to releasably secure the perimeter frame to the partition structure and to the decompression panel. Each mounting element includes a bolt and a retaining device including two conical sleeves arranged one within the other. The bolt is screwed into the inner sleeve and the inner sleeve is releasably connected to the outer sleeve by frangible safety tabs, which break at a rated force to release the bolt and thereby free the decompression panel and allow it to be displaced out of the decompression opening.

  • Patent number: 5561960
Abstract: A modular wall panel system in which individual panels are constructed with a lightweight aluminum frame. In a preferred embodiment, the frame is substantially filled with a foam core material and decorative display surfaces are affixed to opposite sides thereof. One edge of the panels contains a plurality of specially shaped connector pins, while the opposite edge has a plurality of connector slots having a "dogbone" configuration. Therefore, a similar panel placed adjacent to the first panel may be mated thereto by engagement of the connector pins with respective connector slots in the other panel. The pins/slots are shaped and sized so that the connector pin may enter/exit the connector slot at either end of the dogbone but not in the center slot of the dogbone. Secure coupling with fast assembly/disassembly is thereby achieved, without tools or detachable components. Furthermore, the dogbone shape of the slot allows panels to be removed from either side.
