Abstract: Wall and floor structures of a building each comprise a base layer comprising prefabricated panels with grooved inner faces and a covering layer disposed over the panels to cooperate with walls of the grooves to define channels extending along the panels. Selected grooves contain in-floor heating elements and electrical wiring and routing components. A prefabricated corner panel is formed by notching out an oversized channel in the same type of panel, bending the panel along the channel and filling a remaining gap at the so-formed corner bend with a higher r-value insulation than the rest of the panel. Wall and floor panels are joined by a connector having a C-shaped portion that caps exterior floor panel edges and an integral projecting portion inserted into a slot formed in the wall panel's insulating layer at a bottom edge of the floor panel.

Abstract: Panels and their modules, such as for walls and roofs, are disclosed that provide armored shelter for protecting people and equipment from ballistic projectiles and mortar attacks. Each module is made from multiple co-parallel plates arranged in a stack, spaced apart, and held together along their sides by side elements. This is done in such a way that, when assembled side-by-side or end-to-end into panels, adjacent modules overlap one another to prevent straight-through seams yet allow any damaged module to be removed and replaced without moving adjacent modules. Space within a module, between plates and sides, can contain energy absorbing material in a variety of shapes. Plates serve as structural flanges, and side elements comprise structural webs, to permit each module to function as a structural beam.

Abstract: Connectors for joining adjacent modular floor covering units. Embodiments of the connectors include a film and an adhesive layer coated on one side of the film. The connectors can have a conductive component that allows electrical continuity to be maintained between adjacent tiles. In yet another embodiment, the connectors can be equipped as radio frequency identification tags by including radio frequency transponders. To install tiles using the connectors, a first tile is placed on the floor and a connector is positioned so that the adhesive layer faces upward and does not contact the floor. The connector is typically positioned so that only a portion of the adhesive layer adheres to the underside of the tile, leaving the remainder of the connector extending from the underside of the tile. One or more tiles are then positioned adjacent the first tile so that a portion of the connector adheres to the adjacent tiles. In this way, the connectors span adjacent tile edges.

Abstract: There is provided a panel for use in the construction of a structure. The panel includes a panel body defining a panel body periphery. The panel body additionally includes a panel body front surface and an opposing panel body back surface. A flange extends along the panel body periphery. The panel further includes an elongate rib having first and second rib walls and a rib channel. The first and second ribs walls extend from and along the panel body back surface. The rib channel is disposed between and along the first and second ribs walls and extends toward the panel body back surface. The rib channel defines a rib longitudinal axis generally parallel to the adjacent panel body back surface. The panel is cuttable along the rib channel to form a structural element. A plurality of structural elements may be combined to form the structure.

Abstract: An improved railing/wall system for elevated slab balconies. The system uses a number of fascia brackets to secure posts to the outer face of the elevated slab balcony. The posts have a base track secured to them. Infill panels are then placed between the posts to provide the wall structure. A top rail can be used to cover the top of the infill panels. The lower portion of the infill panels also can be tinted to conceal the face of the concrete balcony, if desired. The infill panels can be selected from a group of materials, including tempered glass, pickets, expanded metal, perforated metal, metal cut with water jets or a composite material.

  • Patent number: 7484337
Abstract: A floor panel including structure for releasably connecting at least two panels. A tongue is formed extending in the longitudinal direction of the side edge and corresponding recess is formed opposite it. The recess comprises a top lip and a bottom lip, and the bottom lip forms a shoulder with a front shoulder side. The shoulder blocks the panels in the transverse direction. An undercut is adjoined by a recess, with a bearing region which corresponds to the shoulder, and a wall, which, with the front shoulder side in the installed state, is located opposite the latter. Form-fitting elements are formed on the wall and the front shoulder side that, in the installed state, engage one inside the other and bring about locking in the vertical direction. An underside of the tongue and a top side of the bottom lip runs parallel to the top side.

  • Patent number: 7484338
Abstract: The invention relates to a locking system for mechanical joining of floorboards (1) constructed from a body (30), a rear balancing layer (34), and an upper surface layer (32). A strip (6), which is integrally formed with the body (30) of the floorboard and which projects from a joint plane (F) and under an adjoining board (1), has a locking element (8) which engages a locking groove (14) in the rear side of the adjoining board. The joint edge provided with the strip (6) is modified with respect to the balancing layer (34), for example by means of machining of the balancing layer under the strip (6), in order to prevent deflection of the strip (6) caused by changes in relative humidity. The invention also relates to a floorboard provided with such a locking system, as well as a method for making floorboards with such a locking system.

Abstract: In a system for screening off an area, a partition element substantially covers the space between two upstanding carrier elements. The partition element is catchable in the carrier elements in a temporary, unstable preparatory position. The partition element lacks the capability of remaining in the preparatory position by its own force. The partition element is further movable from the preparatory position to a fixedly locked position in the carrier elements.
