Patent number: 8161688Abstract: An outside corner patch for TPO roofing is formed from a circular piece of TPO membrane material being vacuum formed to define an array of flutes that extend from the center of the piece toward its edges. The flutes form ridges and valleys that generally are shaped as conical sections with the apex of the conical sections located at the center of the patch. The number and size of the flutes is optimized in such a way that, when the flutes are stretched flat, the patch conforms to and fits flat against the surfaces of an outside corner formed by the intersection of a roof deck with an upward protrusion from the roof. The TPO outside corner patch is applied over the corner and thermally welded to surrounding TPO membranes on the roof deck and the protrusion to form a watertight seal at the outside corner.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2009Date of Patent: April 24, 2012Assignee: Building Materials Investment Corp.Inventor: Sudhir Railkar

Patent number: 7836658Abstract: A flashing assembly for reinforcing an interface defined between a roof and a portion of a building wall, either a flat roof or a flat roof with parapet wall. The flashing assembly has a first member configured for securing along the interface between the roof and the building wall and a second member for covering an upper part of the first member. The first member has an inner vertical part adapted for extending along the building wall, a locking flange extending at a right angle to the inner vertical part, and an outer vertical part extending in a substantially parallel orientation to the inner vertical part. In one aspect, the first member has an inclined bottom flange for diverting water away from the building while the top locking flange is secured to the roof. In another aspect, the flashing assembly has a top locking flange that is sealed in a groove formed in a parapet wall above the roof and a securing bottom flange, which is attached to the roof.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2009Date of Patent: November 23, 2010Inventor: John J. Publication number: 20100236155Abstract: A protective covering helps to prevent fastener leaks from roof installed fasteners, which are used to mount roofing systems, such as a solar panel installation system, to roofs with a mounting bracket attached to the roof. The protective covering is a portion of flat, malleable waterproof material molded to form a cover, forming a triangular-shaped structure when viewed from the side. The triangular shaped structure includes a base and a hypotenuse portion where the line of the roof acts as a side which is covered by at least the hypotenuse portion. The hypotenuse portion meets the roof at an angle. The covering is adapted for insertion under portions of a roof shingle, and extends back in a slight rise (downwardly with respect to the roof) to cover the fastener and L-shaped bracket, which the fastener fastens to the roof.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 16, 2010Publication date: September 23, 2010Inventor: Carlo John Lanza

Patent number: 7788857Abstract: A closure rail may be secured along a ridge, hip, or eave of a roof to receive and secure panels in a roofing system. A closure rail may be made from a sheet of metal, folded or creased to create a cover, expanse, extension, flange, and hinge. The hinge may connect adjoining sides of the cover and expanse to allow the cover to close down on and secure an end of a panel. The extension may elevate the flange above the height of a rib on the panel to facilitate attachment of a ridge or hip cap or flashing. Multiple covers, separated by notches, may attach to an expanse, thereby allowing one closure rail to secure multiple panels. A closure rail may be used instead of āZā closures. Such a method may allow for securing the closure rail to the roof before the panels.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2007Date of Patent: September 7, 2010Inventors: Jeffrey Spengler, Jacob Spengler
