The composition avoids the need to use more than trace amounts cobalt ions which are rumoured to be carcinogenic yet achieves adequately fast rates of autoxidation. Preferably the use of cobalt is avoided altogether. The use of the low concentrations of the other metal ions reduces discoloration of the compositions often to levels below what is achieved using conventional cobalt promoters. Abstract: Composition, processes, techniques, and apparatus for synthesizing monodisperse microgels based on poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) derivative polymers by using precipitation polymerization. These microgels are hydrophilic and have the adjustable volume phase transition temperature in aqueous environment. Microgels can be added with various functional groups. These microgels in water can self-assemble into various phases, including a crystalline phase. Hydrogel films with iridescent colors were formed using these microgels as crosslinkers to connect poly(ethylene glycol) chains. The colors of these hydrogel films change with changes of environment such temperature, pH, salt concentration, etc.

Abstract: There is provided a novel composition for an alignment film having excellent adhesiveness to a liquid crystal layer as well as to a substrate when a cycloolefin-based aligned film (COP) is used as the substrate instead of triacetyl cellulose (TAC) that is used as a conventional substrate for an optical film whose optical properties are significantly deteriorated when it is used under hot and humid environments. The composition for an alignment film that is used for splay alignment includes polyvinyl alcohol (PVA); 13 to 25% by weight of an aery late monomer based on the weight of the polyvinyl alcohol; 20 to 30 % by weight of a compatibilizing agent based on the weight of the acrylate monomer; and 10 to 50% by weight of an aqueous photo initiator based on the weight of the acrylate monomer.

  • Publication number: 20090306240
Abstract: The present invention involves the design of a radiation curable organic pre polymer resin material based on urethane acrylic linkage synthesized from the natural renewable resource cardanol or a derivative thereof, for coating application. These new molecules have a faster and better curing rate compared to the starting renewable resource—cardanol. This is brought about by the hydrogen bonding of the urethane linkage which leads to a pre organization of the molecules in such a way as to bring the cross linkable double bonds closer to each other. The present invention also involves a UV curable formulation of the above mentioned resins along with 2-10 parts by weight of a photopolymerization initiator. The resin, either in a formulation or alone turns into a cross linked film upon photopolymerization in presence of photoinitiator under a UV curable radiation source like a mercury vapor pressure lamp.

Abstract: The disclosure provides a new photopolymerizable resin system for dental restorative materials. The resin system utilizes a thiol-ene component as the reactive diluent in dimethacrylate systems. The ternary resin system comprises a thiol monomer, an ene monomer and a dimethacrylate monomer. Use of an off-stoichiometric ratio of thiol:ene functional groups in favor of excess thiols results in enhanced overall functional group conversion, improved polymer mechanical properties, and reduced shrinkage stress of the ternary system when compared to either traditional dimethacrylate or thiol-ene resin systems.
