  • Patent number: 7897070
Abstract: A composition for improving the heat reflectivity and the heat resistance of a metal substrate. The coating composition comprises a latex resin including acrylic polymers; silica; and a fire retardant including at least one of a phosphated pentaerythritol ammonium salt, an organo-polyphosphate ammonium salt, an ammonium salt, and a Magnesium salt. The silica reflects and resists heat. Additionally, the silica raises the decomposition temperature of the resin by insulating the resin from heat and reflecting heat away from the resin. This, in turn, increases the ability of the composition to maintain its bond to the substrate at high temperatures. As such, the coating remains on the substrate where it reflects and resists heat, i.e., it does not easily brush or rub off after several hours of exposure to high heat. The silica can be rice hull silica.

  • Patent number: 7759449
Abstract: The invention is a method for the late introduction of additives into polyethylene terephthalate. The method employs a reactive carrier that functions as a delivery vehicle for one or more additives. The reactive carrier reacts with the polyethylene terephthalate, thereby binding the reactive carrier in the polyethylene terephthalate resin and preventing the emergence of the reactive carrier and additives from the polyethylene terephthalate during subsequent thermal processing.

  • Patent number: 7750069
Abstract: At least one resin component which is selected from a biodegradable resin and a plant-based resin, and a flame retardancy-imparting component are kneaded to obtain a resin composition having flame retardancy. This resin composition makes it possible to apply the environment-friendly resin such as the biodegradable resin and the plant-based resin, for example, polylactic acid and polybutylene succinate to exterior bodies of home appliances. Particularly, in the case where polylactic acid is used with the acetylacetonatoiron as the flame-retardant component, a resin composition having excellent flame retardancy can be provided as a non-halogen material.
