  • Patent number: 10073067
Abstract: Methods are described for determining the quality of dioctyltin bisoctylmaleate and selectively screening its use as a component or modifying agent in a polymer production process. The quality of dioctyltin bisoctylmaleate is determined by measuring the presence and intensity of by products or impurities contained in the dioctyltin bisoctylmaleate. The detected impurities are resolved by comparison to a baseline, such as a solubility limit, to make a decision if the dioctyltin bisoctylmaleate supply is within acceptable limits. Selectively using certain supplies of dioctyltin bisoctylmaleate having suitable limits of impurities, such as the solubility limit of dioctyltin maleate, polymer production efficiency, time and costs can be improved.

  • Patent number: 9527988
Abstract: A process for the production of a polymer composition is disclosed. The polymer composition comprises an organopolysiloxane dispersed in a thermoplastic organic polymer liable to thermo-radical degradation or cross-linking when subjected to a high compounding energy at a temperature above its melting point. In a first step (I), a thermoplastic organic polymer and an organopolysiloxane are mixed at a temperature at which both the thermoplastic organic polymer and the organopolysiloxane are in liquid phases to form a masterbatch. In a second step (II), the masterbatch is mixed with further thermoplastic organic polymer to form a polymer composition having a lower concentration of organopolysiloxane than that in the masterbatch. In the first step (I), the thermoplastic organic polymer and the organopolysiloxane are mixed in the presence of an additive capable of inhibiting the thermo-radical degradation or cross-linking of the thermoplastic organic polymer.

  • Patent number: 6420047
Abstract: A water slurry process is used to prepare a prepreg and to manufacture articles from macrocyclic polyester oligomers. In one embodiment, a process for preparing a water suspension of macrocyclic polyester oligomers includes the steps of contacting a macrocyclic polyester oligomer and a polymerization catalyst with water and a surfactant, and mixing the macrocyclic polyester oligomer and polymerization catalyst with water and the surfactant thereby forming a suspension. In another embodiment, a process for impregnating macrocyclic polyester oligomers for polymerization includes the steps of providing a suspension of a macrocyclic polyester oligomer and a polymerization catalyst in water, applying the suspension to a base material, drying to remove water from the suspension, and pressing the dried suspension to a desired form. In yet another embodiment, a composition of macrocyclic polyester oligomer includes a macrocyclic polyester oligomer, a polymerization catalyst, and water.
