Abstract: Provided is a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition that makes it possible to prevent electrification of a non-antistatic protected material during peeling, is reduced in the risk of staining the protected material, and has good removability, and to provide a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, a pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet. Specifically provided is a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition which comprises: a (meth)acryl-based polymer including, as a main component, a (meth)acryl-based monomer component having an alkyl group of 1 to 14 carbon atoms; an alkali metal salt; and an organopolysiloxane having a polyoxyalkylene side chain, wherein the (meth)acryl-based polymer has an acid value of 1.0 or less, and the total amount of the alkali metal salt and the organopolysiloxane is from 0.15 to 4 parts by weight, based on 100 parts by weight of the (meth)acryl-based polymer.

Abstract: Provided is a magnetic graphite nanoplatelet, and a method of manufacturing nanocomposites by introducing the magnetic nanoplatelets into a composite matrix. Expanded crystalline graphite, in the form of graphite nanoplatelets, is mixed with magnetic particles to adhere the particles to the nanoplatelets. The magnetic graphite nanoplatelets are combined with a composite matrix, typically a polymer, to form a nanocomposite. In the presence of an applied magnetic field, the magnetic graphite nanoplatelets orient and align consistent with the magnetic field to yield a composite having enhance mechanical, electrical and thermal properties.

Abstract: It is intended to provide an aqueous solution of a thermoresponsive polymer, which shows an upper critical solution temperature (UCST) and is capable of maintaining a dissolved state, even if it is stored for a long period of time at a temperature at which a ligand such as an antibody or an antigen is not inactivated. A UCST lowering agent is incorporated in a predetermined amount in an aqueous solution of a thermoresponsive polymer which shows a UCST in a state of containing water, thereby lowering the UCST of the aqueous solution to less than the storage temperature, and the resulting aqueous solution is stored.
Abstract: A process is provided for producing a compatibilized polymeric blend. A first thermoplastic polymer and a reactive moiety are provided to a progressive melt kneading apparatus. The reactive moiety comprises a first reactive group capable of reacting with the first thermoplastic polymer but not a second polymer and a second reactive group capable of reacting with the second polymer but not the first polymer. The first thermoplastic polymer and the reactive moiety are then melt kneaded so that the first reactive group reacts with the first thermoplastic polymer and the second reactive group is grafted to the first thermoplastic polymer, forming a molten self-compatibilizer. A molten second polymer is then provided. The molten self-compatibilizer is melt kneaded with the molten second polymer so that the second reactive group reacts with the second polymer to form a compatibilized polymeric blend. Also provided are articles formed from the compatibilized polymer blend.

Abstract: A high strength thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) composition is provided. The TPV includes a dispersed rubber component, a polyolefinic thermoplastic resin component, a propylene copolymer and mineral filler present in the amount of 20 wt % to 70 wt % based on total of the thermoplastic vulcanizate composition. Preferably, the propylene copolymer has 60 wt % or more units derived from propylene; includes isotactically arranged propylene derived sequences; and has a heat of fusion less than 45 J/g. Preferably, the mineral filler is halogen free and flame retardant. The high strength TPV can be useful for making a variety of articles for electrical, construction, automotive, and consumer applications, including fuel cell.

The nanoparticle filler is dispersed throughout the PVC matrix by blending the nanoparticles with a mixture of PVC particles that have been pre-heated to a temperature at or above a fusion point of the PVC, thereby fusing the PVC particles prior to the addition of the nanoparticles to the matrix. Also disclosed are methods of forming the composite compositions. The composite compositions can be used to replace wood boards.

Abstract: The dirt pickup resistance of substrates, in particular coatings, is improved by the incorporation of small amount of certain layered double hydroxide particles. Methods for the preparation of effective, readily intercalated, layered double hydroxide particles and compositions comprising them, such as architectural coatings, in particular water based architectural coatings, are provided.

Abstract: Heat- and light-stabilized polyamide compositions contain a stabilization system that includes copper oxide and KBr, and have an excellent preservation of color and of the mechanical properties thereof after exposure to heat or to light; these compositions are especially useful for producing shaped articles in the automotive field.
Abstract: RTV-1 compositions are continuously produced from essentially linear organosilicon compounds having at least two condensable groups bound to silicon, filler and, optionally, further constituents, by mixing in one step in a single pass through the mixing zone of a rotor-stator mixer, wherein the pressure at the outlet of the mixing apparatus is at least 100 hPa greater than that at the inlet of the mixing apparatus.
Abstract: A plain bearing having a sliding layer of a bearing material thereon is described, the bearing material comprising a polymer-based matrix selected from the group comprising modified epoxy resin and polyamide/amide resin, the matrix having contained therein at least one addition selected from the group comprising: metal powder in the range from 15 to 30 vol %; a fluoropolymer in the range from 1 to 15 vol %; ceramic powder in the range from 0.5 to 20 vol %; and, silica in the range from 2 to 15 vol %.

Abstract: The invention relates to an adhesive composition comprising hydrophilic silicone elastomers and hydrophobic silicone elastomers and optionally water absorbent material, wherein the ratio between the hydrophilic silicone elastomers and the hydrophobic silicone elastomers is from 95:5 to 5:95. The adhesive is suited for medical use due to its skin-friendliness. The invention further relates to a medical device comprising said adhesive composition.
Abstract: The invention relates to solar energy shielding window film laminates exhibiting visual light transmittance in the range of 5 to 80% with minimum progressive fading or degradation of reflective quality wherein base polyester films have a layer of adhesive sandwiched there between, the adhesive layer containing dispersed mixed metal oxides as solar-energy-screen particles optionally in combination with rare earth hexaborides, antimony containing metal oxide, indium containing metal oxide, titanium nitride, or carbon particles either singly or in combinations thereof.
