Publication number: 20070293619Abstract: This invention relates to a tire having a tread intended for winter performance comprised cis 1,4-polybutadiene rubber (BR) and specialized solution polymerization prepared high vinyl styrene/butadiene rubber (HVS-SBR). Such tire tread is comprised of a compatible rubber blend of at least 40 phr of the BR in combination the HVS-SBR together with reinforcing filler composed of precipitated silica with a low BET nitrogen surface area and, optionally, rubber reinforcing carbon black. A disulfide silane based silica coupler is used to aid in coupling the precipitated silica to the elastomers. Compatibility of the combination of the BR with a relatively low glass transition temperature (Tg) of ?100° C. or lower and the HVS-SBR with a relatively high Tg of at least 30° C. or higher, and therefore spaced apart Tg's of at least 70° C. is promoted by the high vinyl content of the HVS-SBR in a range of from about 40 to about 50 percent based upon its polybutadiene portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 19, 2006Publication date: December 20, 2007Inventors: Claude Charles Jacoby, David John Zanzig

Publication number: 20070287014Abstract: A liquid organopolysiloxane composition is provided. This composition can readily form a cured article having a matted surface without requiring separate step such as mechanical surface roughening, and this composition is well adapted for use as a potting material or a coating material in electric and electronic components such as LED. An article having a matted surface produced by curing such composition is also provided. The liquid organopolysiloxane composition for matting comprises (A) 100 parts by weight of a thermosetting liquid organopolysiloxane composition, and (B) 0.1 to 100 parts by weight of a hollow filler having a melting point of at least 150° C., a specific weight of 0.01 to 0.8, and a particle size of up to 200 ?m. The composition has a viscosity at room temperature of 100 to 100,000 mPa·s. The resulting cured article has a surface glossiness of up to 40.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 6, 2007Publication date: December 13, 2007Inventors: Toshiyuki Ozai, Mitsuhiro Iwata

Patent number: 7307121Abstract: This invention discloses a method for preparing rubber compositions that exhibit unique combinations of properties that are desirable for tire tread applications for enhanced snow/ice and wet traction, low rolling resistance and increased treadwear performance in comparison with conventional silica compounds. Specifically, a high reactively silane coupling agent, such as a mercaptosilane, is used in combination with a silane coupling typically used for silica tread compounds such as bis(triethoxylsilylpropyl)disulfide to treat silica pellets in a hydrocarbon solvent at elevated temperatures. The treated silica is then blended with solution elastomer cement in a hydrocarbon solvent. The deposited reactive silanes partially react with the elastomer molecules forming a layer of polymer grafted on the silica surfaced. This structure significantly improves the silica retention during the steam stripping operation. Almost 100% (99+%) silica retention has been achieved by this invention.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 2004Date of Patent: December 11, 2007Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Ping Zhang, Sun-Lin Chen
