Abstract: A synthetic polymer yarn comprising a bicomponent yarn and a second yarn combined to form a single yarn is disclosed. The bicomponent yarn is made up from a first component and a second component each comprised of a fiber-forming polymer and each having different shrinkages from the other to effectuate a bulking effect. This differential shrinkage may be obtained, for example, by using different polymers or similar polymers having different relative viscosities. The synthetic polymer yarn of the present invention has advantageously exhibited an improved visual effect, including a stratified effect, which improves the visual composition of products produced using the yarn. Moreover, the fabrics produced from the yarn have improved hand and stretch and recovery.

  • Patent number: 6624245
Abstract: A method is provided for the rapid formation of a biocompatible gel, and may be carried out in situ, i.e., at a selected site within a patient's body. The method involves admixing a biocompatible crosslinking component A having m sulfhydryl groups wherein m≧2 and a biocompatible crosslinking component B having n sulfhydryl-reactive groups wherein n≧2 and m+n>4, wherein the sulfhydryl-reactive groups are capable of covalent reaction with the sulfhydryl groups upon admixture of the components under effective crosslinking conditions to form a gel in less than one minute. Suitable reaction conditions for carrying out the crosslinking reaction will depend on the particular components and the type of reaction involved; that is, the “effective crosslinking conditions” may involve reaction in bulk or in a solvent, addition of a base, and/or irradiation of the admixture in the presence of a free radical initiator.

Abstract: A resin composition comprising: a polyimide comprising a recurring unit represented by the following formula (1):  wherein Ar0 is an aromatic hydrocarbon group having 6 to 15 carbon atoms, and R1 is at least one group selected from the group consisting of the divalent residual group obtained by removing two amino groups from an aliphatic diamine having 2 to 30 carbon atoms and the divalent residual group obtained by removing two amino groups from an alicyclic diamine having 4 to 30 carbon atoms, and a polyarylate or polyester carbonate. This resin composition has excellent heat resistance, dimensional stability and transparency. Particularly, the resin composition having excellent transparency is advantageously used as a molded product such as a flexible printed board.

Abstract: A polymer composition comprising a blend of amorphous nylon copolymer and polyester that is useful in packaging applications where good barrier properties are desired. These compositions can be effectively processed using methods including extrusion blow molding and extrusion coating. When incorporated as a layer in a package, these blends exhibit good gas barrier properties and a reduced tendency to absorb flavor from a packaged product. These blends exhibit a combination of processibility and properties that is difficult to achieve with polyester alone.
