Abstract: In one aspect, the invention provides ene-thiol elastomers comprising the reaction product of a polythiol free of hydrophilic groups and having at least two thiol groups and an aromatic, heterocyclic, aliphatic, or cycloaliphatic polyene having at least two reactive unsaturated carbon to carbon bonds. In another aspect, the invention provides ene-thiol elastomer comprising the reaction product of (a) a thiol terminated oligomer comprising the reaction product of a polythiol having two thiol groups and a first polyene or mixture of polyenes having two reactive unsaturated carbon to carbon bonds; and (b) a second polyene or a mixture of polyenes having at least 5 percent functional equivalents of unsaturated carbon to carbon bonds from polyenes having at least three unsaturated carbon to carbon bonds. The ene-thiol elastomers of the invention have a weight increase of not more than 4 weight percent in 15 days at a temperature of 22° C.

Abstract: A new class of polymeric corrosion inhibiting compositions incorporating pendant heterocyclic groups which are surprisingly effective copper corrosion inhibitors are disclosed. Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention is a method for synthesizing superabsorbent polyacrylate polymers comprising the steps of providing an acrylate monomer, a multifunctional monomer, and free radical initiator in the absence of a solvent; mixing the acrylate monomer, multifunctional monomer, and free radical initiator to create a solvent free solution; and subjecting the solvent free solution to radiation to create a cross-linked polymer. Abstract: Oligomers of vinyl esters, preferably of vinyl acetate, are provided in which the molecules contain a single terminal sulfonate group, thereby making these products useful as surface-active agents. These oligomers can be converted by hydrolysis to sulfonate-terminated vinyl alcohol oligomer which is also a surface-active agent. The number average molecular weight of the vinyl ester oligomer is not over 17,000 and not over 7,500 for the vinyl alcohol oligomer. These products are made by polymerizing the vinyl ester in the presence of a bisulfite chain transfer agent in water, preferably with a cosolvent such as methanol. The vinyl ester is delay fed to the polymerization, molecular weight is controlled with the bisulfite, and the system is maintained in a virtual single phase with any organic phase present swollen with water or water and cosolvent.

Abstract: Polymerizable compositions comprising: (a) a mixture of thio(meth)acrylate functional monomers comprising, (a)(i) a first thio(meth)acrylate functional monomer, e.g., bis(thiomethacrylate)-1,2-ethylene, and (a)(ii) a second thio(meth)acrylate functional monomer, which is chain extended; (b) an aromatic monomer having at least two vinyl groups, e.g., divinyl benzene; (c) a polythiol monomer having at least two thiol groups, e.g., pentaerythritol tetrakis(3-mercaptopropionate); and (d) a comonomer selected from, (d)(i) an anhydride monomer having at least one ethylenically unsaturated group, e.g., methacrylic anhydride; (d) (ii) a monomer having at least three (meth)acryloyl groups, e.g., pentaerythritol tetrakis(acrylate); and (d)(iii) mixtures of monomers (d)(i) and (d)(ii). A polymerizate of the polymerizable composition has a refractive index of at least 1.57 and an Abbe number of at least 33.

Abstract: A bioadhesive composition is disclosed which includes copolymer particles containing as polymerized units, terminally unsaturated acid-containing oligomers and ethylenically unsaturated nonionic monomers. A method of preparing the bioadhesive composition and a method of using the bioadhesive composition are also disclosed.
