Abstract: This invention relates to an epoxy resin composition suitable for impregnating coils of electrical apparatus such as motors, generators and the like. More particularly, this invention relates to an epoxy resin composition having excellent workability and a long pot life, which composition is prepared by adding the reaction product of the glycidyl ether of a monoalcohol and a metal carboxylate, which works as a reactive diluent and accelerator, to an epoxy resin having at least two epoxy groups per molecule and containing a curing agent.
Abstract: Processes and devices are described which employ flexible substrates made from cloth impregnated with a resin of a particular composition. The flexible substrate is made into double-clad printed wiring substrate for use in double-sided circuits. These substrates exhibit excellent dimensional stability during circuit fabrication and soldering as well as excellent flame retardance and electrical insulation resistance.

Abstract: An improvement in a weldable coating for metallic substrates containing a high molecular weight epoxy or phenoxy resin, an electroconductive pigment such as zinc and a diluent such as a glycol ether wherein the improvement resides in replacing at least about 70 weight percent of said resin with a composition containing a low molecular weight epoxy resin such as the diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A, a phenolic hydroxyl-containing compound such as a phenolic hydroxyl terminated adduct of a diglycidyl ether of a diphenolic compound such as bisphenol A and a catalyst for effecting the reaction between the epoxy resin and the adduct.
Abstract: The disclosed coating method has the ability to satisfy some or all of the very troublesome requirements of highway marking or striping and is therefore useful to mark or stripe paved surfaces. The method involves:(a) supplying to the point of application an amine co-curative which includes an aliphatic amine (e.g. trimethyl hexamethylene diamine) and a cycloaliphatic amine (e.g. cyclohexane-bis[methylamine]);(b) supplying to the point of application a suitable curable liquid vicinal epoxide composition;(c) applying the co-curative and the liquid epoxide to the paved surface (preferably after intimately mixing the co-curative and the liquid epoxide); and(d) permitting the resulting mixture to cure in situ on the paved surface.
Abstract: 1,4-Diaminobutanes of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 is H or --CH.sub.3 and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 independently of one another are each a radical of the formula ##STR2## in which A is alkyl having 1 to 3 C atoms, --OCH.sub.3, --N(CH.sub.3).sub.2, --Cl or --Br and R.sup.2 also is alkyl having 1 to 3 C atoms, are prepared according to the invention by catalytically hydrogenating succinic acid dinitrile of the formula ##STR3## in the presence of acetic anhydride and hydrolyzing the N,N'-diacetyl-1,4-diaminobutanes thus obtained to diamines of the formula I, which are valuable curing agents for epoxide resins.

Abstract: Polyepoxide resins are reacted with a molar excess of a primary amine to form an amine terminated resin, the amine groups of which are then reacted with a monoepoxide. The primary amine is a mixture of an aliphatic monoamine and an aliphatic diamine which contains one primary amine group and one tertiary amine group. The resinous reaction products can be salted with an acid and can be dissolved or dispersed in water. The aqueous dispersions or solutions can then be formulated into primer coatings for metal objects.
Abstract: An elastic composition curable at room temperature comprising (A) a diamine of a specified structure having a molecular weight of about 5,000 to about 25,000, (B) a diepoxy compound in an amount such that the mole ratio of the epoxy groups in the diepoxy compound to the primary amino groups in diamine (A) is from 0.5 to 5.0, and (C) a mixture of (i) a diacrylic acid ester and/or a dimethacrylic acid ester and (ii) a tri- or higher polyacrylic acid and/or a tri- or higher polymethacrylic acid ester in which 5 to 90% of the acryloyl and/or methacryloyl groups are derived from the diacrylic and/or dimethacrylic acid ester, the amount of said mixture being such that the mole ratio of the sum of the acryloyl and methacryloyl groups in the mixture to the primary amino groups in diamine (A) is from 0.1 to 2.
Abstract: Polyepoxide resins are adducted with amines and the adducts are then reacted with cyclic dicarboxylic acid anhydrides. The resulting resinous products when salted with an amine are water soluble or water dispersible. The resinous solutions or dispersions can be formulated into coating compositions particularly useful for metal substrates.
Abstract: The utility, as coatings, of water-thinnable, base-neutralized H.sub.3 PO.sub.4 /polyether epoxide reaction products, is improved by admixture therewith of the base-neutralized reaction products of phosphoric acid with various other kinds of epoxides. Of particular value are such mixtures in which the latter products are derived from methylol- or lower alkoxymethyl-substituted epoxides.
Abstract: A highly fluid, solventless, resinous, impregnating and coating composition, suitable as a high voltage insulation for electrical members, is made from an admixture containing: 100 parts of an epoxy resin, about 25 to 200 parts of an acid anhydride reactive with the epoxy resin, and about 0.002 to 1.00 part of a selected metal acetylacetonate, acting as a latent accelerator.
Abstract: The invention provides a process for the production of a polyester which comprises initiating a reaction between a polyterminal epoxide being the reaction product of one mole bisphenol A and two moles of epichlorohydrin, a mono-terminal epoxide and a cyclic diacid anhydride in the presence of a catalytically effective quaternary salt heating to a point at which the reaction becomes a self-sustaining exothermic reaction and controlling the reaction such that the temperature of the mixture is not reduced until after the exothermic reaction has begun to subside.

Abstract: A solventless impregnating composition is disclosed which is made by forming a mixture of a liquid diepoxide and about 10 to about 80 phr of a diglycidyl ether of a glycol. To this mixture is added a titanate catalyst in an amount sufficient to cure the composition.
Abstract: Polyepoxide resins are adducted with polyamines which are further reacted with a monoepoxide or a monocarboxylic acid. When salted with an acid, the resinous adducts are water soluble or water dispersible. The resin solutions or dispersions are particularly useful in cathodic electrodeposition processes for prime coating metal objects.
