Abstract: An optical recording material possesses a light-absorbing layer on a base, the said layer containing one or more colorants of the formula (I) ##STR1## where M is two hydrogen atoms or Fe, Cu, Co, Ni, Pb, Cr, Mn, VO, TiO, ZrO, Nb, Ta, Pd, SiCl.sub.2, Sn or SnX.sub.2, X is Cl, Br or I, and A is a divalent radical of an unsaturated, unsubstituted or substituted carbocyclic ring system. The colorants (I) present on the novel recording materials have a high absorption in the range from 650 to 850 nm and accordingly can be written on and read by means of a laser. The colorants can be applied as 20-1000 nm layers on a suitable base by vapor deposition or as a solution or dispersion, with or without the addition of a polymeric binder, by a conventional method. The layers are very stable to atmospheric influences and daylight.
Abstract: Finely divided, transparent, metal-free X-phthalocyanine has a specific surface area of from 75 to 120 m.sup.2 g and not less than 80% by weight of the phthalocyanine particles have a Stokes-equivalent diameter of .ltoreq.0.12 .mu.m.The phthalocyanine is very useful as a pigment for printing inks and finishes.
Abstract: An organic photoconductor suitable for use in electro-reprography comprising an electrically conducting support, a charge generating phase comprising a charge generator and a charge transport phase characterized in that the charge generator is a phthalocyanine compound in which each of at least four of the peripheral carbon atoms numbered from 1 to 16 in the phthalocyanine nucleus shown below is linked, by an atom from Group VA or Group VIA of the Periodic Table, to a carbon atom of an organic radical.
Abstract: A transfer printing medium comprising a substrate supporting a thermal transfer dye and a radiation absorber positioned to provide thermal energy to the transfer dye when subjected to radiation within a predetermined absorption waveband, has a radiation absorber which is an infra-red absorbing poly(substituted)phthalocyanine compound in which each of at least five of the peripheral carbon atoms in the 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13 or 16 positions (the "3,6-positions") of the phthalocyanine nucleus, as shown in Formula I, is linked by an atom from Group VB or Group VIB of the Periodic Table, other than oxygen, to a carbon atom of an organic radical. In preferred compounds each of the eight 3,6-positions is linked by an atom from Group VB or Group VIB, especially sulphur, selenium or nitrogen, to an organic radical.
Abstract: The preparation of a novel class of thin film membranes by interfacial polymerization is disclosed, said membanes incorporating as part of their polymeric structure the functionality of monomeric or oligomeric precursors. Specific embodiments include porphyrin and phthalocyanime derivatives that are photochemically or electrochemically active, as well as chemically asymmetric membranes.
Abstract: Provided is an optical information recording medium and a method of recording information thereon. The information layer of the recording medium comprises an anthracyanine or phenanthracyanine chromophore compound. In a preferred embodiment, the chromophore is substituted with at least one substituent conferring film forming properties to the chromophore, e.g., a monomer or oligomeric substituent comprised of acid, amide or ester units. The resulting information layer exhibits strong absorption in the range of from about 780-850 nm. Employing an anthracyanine or phenanthracyanine chromophore substituted with a film forming substituent further offers the advantages of a single component material exhibiting good thermomechanical properties.
