Abstract: Compounds useful in the treatment of cholesterolaemia are of the general formula ##STR1## or salts thereof in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently denote radicals including hydrogen, alkyl, aryl and heterocyclic radical or together complete a carbocyclic or heterocylic ring, R.sup.3 denotes a radical ##STR2## in which R.sup.9, R.sup.10 and R.sup.11 include hydrogen, cyano, nitro, alkyl and aryl or, in pairs, complete carbocyclic rings, X denotes cyano, nitro or substituted carbonyl, sulphonyl or phosphonyl group, R.sup.4 is hydrogen or a radical defined for R.sup.1 or R.sup.3, and R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 include hydrogen, nitro, cyano, carboxyl, alkyl and aryl or, in pairs, complete carbocyclic rings, with the proviso that R.sup.1 and R.sup.9 are not both phenyl if X denotes CO--C.sub.6 H.sub.6. The compounds exhibit considerably higher hypocholesterolaemic activity than the known clofibrate and in addition exhibit a pronounced nutritive effect, e.g., in a medicated fodder or premix.

Abstract: Derivatives of 4,5-dihydro-4-oxofuran-2-carboxylic acid characterized by having two substituents at position 5 and in addition being optionally further substituted at position 3 with a lower alkyl group, as well as esters therefor are disclosed. The foregoing compounds are useful hypolipidemic agents in a mammal. Novel methods for the preparation of these compounds also are disclosed.

Abstract: Bicyclic prostaglandins and pharmaceutical and veterinary compositions containing them having numerous pharmaceutical or veterinary utilities including, for example, hypotensive, vasodilatory, antiaggregating, luteolytic, and cytoprotective activities. Processes for preparing the compounds and compositions are also disclosed.

Abstract: Novel dibenz[b,f]oxepin and dibenzo[b,f]thiepin derivatives of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is an oxygen or sulfur atom, each of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and R.sub.3 is a hydrogen atom or a 2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethyl group; provided that when R.sub.1 is a hydrogen atom, the group ##STR2## is a group other than a 1-carboxyethyl group; and when X is a sulfur atom, both R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are methyl groups;and pharmaceutically acceptable salts of said compounds in which R.sub.3 is a hydrogen atom. Compositions of said compounds, processes for the preparation of said compounds, and a method of using said compounds are also provided. These novel compounds have excellent anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activities.

Abstract: A novel class of compounds has been prepared comprising the tetrasulfides of C.sub.18 hydrocarbons, C.sub.18 fatty acids, and C.sub.18 fatty and alkyl and triglyceride esters. These tetrasulfides are useful as extreme pressure lubricant additives and show potential as replacements for sulfurized sperm whale oil.

Abstract: Certain sulfonium salts are herein described which are useful corrosion inhibitors in aqueous acidic cleaning solutions, even in the presence of ferric ions.

Abstract: .omega.-NOR-CYCLOALKYL-13,14-DEHYDRO-PROSTAGLANDIN COMPOUNDS, SPECIFICALLY 13,14-DEHYDRO-17-CYCLOHEXYL-20,19,18-TRINOR-PGF.sub.2.alpha. having antiulcer and luteolytic activity, are disclosed.
