Abstract: The invention relates to N-acyl-o-phenylenediamines of the formula ##STR1## wherein A is a colorless carbocyclic or heterocyclic aromatic radical and each of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 independently is an alkyl, alkenyl or phenyl radical which is unsubstituted or substituted by non-chromophoric groups, but only one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 can be phenyl, and the ring B can also be substituted by non-chromophoric groups. The invention also relates to processes for the manufacture of these compounds, their use for whitening man-made organic material their conversion into benzimidazolium compounds as well as stable, concentrated aqueous solutions of such compounds, processes for their manufacture and their use for whitening manmade organic material.
Abstract: 2,3-Dihydro-substituted-5-(acyl)benzofuran-2-carboxylic acids, the pharmaceutically acceptable salt, ester and amide derivatives thereof and combinations of these compounds with antikaluretic agents are disclosed having diuretic-saluretic, uricosuric and antihypertensive activity.

Abstract: A method is provided for preparing compounds of the formulae ##STR1## wherein A may be --C.dbd.C-- or --C.tbd.C--, by reducing an epoxy lactone of the structure ##STR2## to form the corresponding epoxy hemiacetal, reacting the epoxy hemiacetal with a silyl compound to form an epoxy silyl acetal, reacting the epoxy silyl acetal with an acetylenic derivative to form a silyl acetal, removing the silyl protecting group to form a hemiacetal, reacting the hemiacetal compound with an appropriate Wittig reagent to form a protected difluoro PGF.sub.2.alpha. type compound, removing the protecting group, reacting the difluoro PGF.sub.2.alpha. with an iodine compound to form an iodoether and reacting the iodoether with a base to form the desired compounds.Novel intermediates produced in the above method are also provided.
Abstract: Novel 2-nitronaphthofuran derivatives are of the formula ##STR1## in which the linkage between the furan ring and the naphthalene nucleus is formed in the 1,2-, 2,3- or 2,1-positions of the naphthalene, and R, which can be located in a free position of the napthalene, represents a halogen atom or a methoxy group. They are prepared by condensing bromonitromethane with ortho-hydroxynaphthaldehydes and provide useful cell growth regulators.
