Abstract: There is provided bonding material having a Young's Modulus after hardening of not less than 20% of articles to be bonded, and an average linear coefficient of thermal expansion after hardening of not more than 70% of the articles to be bonded. This bonding material can suppress deformation of a honeycomb segment due to thermal stress to be generated by a bonding material layer and can suitably be used at the time of manufacturing exhaust gas trapping filters capable of reducing the generation of defects such as a crack, and above all, a diesel particulate filter (DPF) for trapping particulate matter (particulates) in exhaust gas from the diesel engine.

Abstract: A particulate filter cartridge has a woven metal fiber filter medium surrounding a perforated support tube. The filter medium is crimped down to the support tube at opposite ends thereof and then welded to the support tube at the crimped regions. A plurality of such cartridges can then be nested within each other and separated by appropriate exhaust gas flow directing baffles to form a particulate filter assembly.

  • Patent number: 7951229
Abstract: An air filter including a plurality of air-pervious sheets of electret filtration material. The sheets are disposed in a parallel relationship to form a stack of sheets, and each of the sheets has a plurality of slits formed therein for subsequent expanding to form openings. The stack is connected together at opposing ends, such as by bonding. The sheets can be pleated by mounting in a frame. The frame has opposing ends to which the opposing ends of the stack are mounted. The filter media initially has no frame and is not pleated, but is in a flat pad form that is expanded to be installed into a frame. The frame is then mounted in an appliance, such as a room air filter. When the filter is inserted into the filter housing it is expanded and can take a pleated form.

  • Patent number: 7935163
Abstract: A filtering device for diesel engines is based on metal foams. In order to achieve high filtration efficiency with low pressure drop using deep bed filtration metal foams, a radial flow concept is used based on a “porosity gradient”. The foams can also be coated with catalytically active material to enhance soot oxidation (regeneration), as well as reduction of other exhaust gas pollutants (CO, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides). This may be accomplished by using non-uniform amounts of catalytic materials within the filter depending on the targeted application. An additional secondary filter segment may be placed within the metal support of the main filter segment. The metallic diaphragms at the entrance and exit of the external shell are designed in such a way as to allow the flow to be divided between the main and the secondary filter segments according to the respective flow resistances.

  • Patent number: 7862641
Abstract: A highly porous substrate is provided using an extrusion system. More particularly, the present invention enables the production of a highly porous substrate. Depending on the particular mixture, the present invention enables substrate porosities of about 60% to about 90%, and enables advantages at other porosities, as well. The extrusion system enables the use of a wide variety of fibers and additives, and is adaptable to a wide variety of operating environments and applications. Fibers, which have an aspect ratio greater than 1, are selected according to substrate requirements, and are typically mixed with binders, pore-formers, extrusion aids, and fluid to form a homogeneous extrudable mass. The homogeneous mass is extruded into a green substrate. The more volatile material is preferentially removed from the green substrate, which allows the fibers to form interconnected networks.
