  • Patent number: 6890376
Abstract: The present invention provides a gas purification system with improved efficiency, simpler construction, cost reductions, form factor improvements, and increased durability. The present invention provides cost and form factor improvements through fewer components overall and through utilizing multiple integrated components. Prior art gas purification systems are more bulky and complicated. The present invention achieves increased thermal efficiency through utilization of a regenerative heat exchanger to recapture a portion of the heat energy transferred to the gas during the purification process. Prior art purifiers lacked a regenerative heat exchanger. The present invention integrates the two components into one integrated heater and purification vessel assembly. The present invention integrates the two discrete components into one integrated hydrogen sorption and particle filter assembly. The integrated hydrogen sorption and particle filter assembly is also capable of operating at higher temperatures.

The metal filter is made up of a corrugated roll-shaped metal porous body fabricated by winding up, in a multi-layer manner and in a vortex form, a metal plate in which many through holes having surface-protrusions at edge portions and which repeatedly forms a sine-wave shaped rising and falling structure. Exhaust gas from a diesel engine passes through clearances among layers of the metal porous body and black smoke minute particles contained in the exhaust gas are seized and removed. The through holes are formed in crest portions and trough portions making up the rising and falling portions. Approximately all or a greater part of surface-protrusions are formed on column-like concave portions corresponding to lower parts of the crest portions and to upper parts of the trough portions.

Abstract: The present invention provides an air filter made from a composite comprising a substrate and a polymeric foam. The air filter can comprise a single layer. The foam has a density gradient where the lower density upstream portion of the filter can trap larger particles, allowing smaller particles to penetrate into the filter and be trapped by the higher density downstream portion of the filter. The density gradient arises from intercalation of the polymeric foam with the substrate. The composite design provides comparable or improved filtration efficiencies compared to the complex prior art air filters which rely on multiple layers to provide a density gradient.

The net is pressed to form an undulating net. An undulating net of a first layer and an undulating net of a second layer are laid one upon the other in such a manner that crossing points of the undulating net of the first layer alternately come into contact with and are separated from crossing points of the undulating net of the second layer. The crossing points which are in contact with each other are welded together by a welding machine. Subsequently, undulating nets of a third to n-th layers are similarly processed to form a three-dimensional net-like structure.

  • Patent number: 6398833
Abstract: A centrifugal separator for separating oil suspended in air and especially intended for use with aircraft engines includes a rotatable chamber filled with a relatively rigid porous material and is driven by a hollow shaft. An inlet for the mixture of air and oil is provided in one end wall of the chamber and separate outlets for oil and air are provided in the outer and inner cylindrical walls of the chamber respectively. Oil droplets are formed in the rigid porous material and ejected out through the oil outlet under centrifugal forces while air relatively free from oil exits the air outlet and enters into the inside of the hollow shaft under the pressure difference. A cut-away area is formed in the rigid porous material to facilitate ejection from the separator of the oil droplets formed in the porous material to clear the passages of the porous material and facilitate a continuous movement of the mixture of air and oil mist.

Abstract: A TEOS trap for controlling TEOS polymerization from reaction furnace effluent in a vacuum pump line a SiO2 CVD process includes a molecular species-selective flow impeding medium that adsorbs and retains TEOS and water molecules from the effluent long enough to consume substantially all the water molecules in TEOS hydrolysis reactions while allowing non-hydrolyzed TEOS, ethylene, and other gaseous byproducts to pass through the trap and retaining solid and liquid phase SiO2-rich TEOS polymers formed by the hydrolysis reactions in the trap for subsequent removal and disposal. The molecular species-selective flow impeding medium has a plurality of adsorption surfaces to make a surface density that performs the TEOS and water flow impeding function and solid and liquid phase TEOS polymer trapping function.

Abstract: A processing apparatus is provided, particularly a granulating or coating apparatus. A filtering assembly is arranged above or adjacent a processing chamber for removing dust from process air containing a particulate material. The filtering assembly includes at least one filter which is passed by the process air coming from the processing chamber. The filter includes a plurality of filter surfaces arranged adjacent to one another to form a substantially circular filter body. The filter surfaces extend substantially radially and in meander-like geometry to be inclined with respect to the process air flow.

  • Patent number: 6221120
Abstract: A screen guard is utilized to protect fin coils of a fin-coil heat exchanger of an apparatus such as a heat pump or air conditioner. The screen guard prevents cottonwood seeds and other debris capable of forming a filter from obstructing the air flow over the fin coils. The screen guard comprises a wide mesh screen member and an adhesive attachment strip. The attachment strip may be magnetic so that it attaches directly to a ferrous housing of the apparatus. Alternatively, a VELCRO® fastener strip is fixed to the apparatus and the attachment strip is a complimentary VELCRO® strip which removably attaches to the fastener strip. The screen guard can be repeatedly removed and reattached for cleaning debris from the screen guard. A method of protecting the apparatus includes removing the screen guard for cleaning and thereafter reattaching the screen guard.

Abstract: A filter element includes a filter media having an array of filter media panel members which are oriented at an angle of about 45° with respect to the air stream and are spaced so that the upstream edges of the panels overlap the downstream edges. Consequently, the air stream must pass through two panel members before exiting the filter element. The filter element may also include a secondary filter media in the form of a mat disposed over the downstream edges of the panel members. The filter element is used for filtering cabin air for vehicles or for other similar purposes as well as for filtering engine combustion air.
