Abstract: Oxalkylene groups of oxacycloalkanes are inserted into chain-type ethers by reacting the latter with the oxacycloalkanes in the presence of Lewis acids. The ethers or ether mixtures obtained can be used for many purposes owing to their hydrophilic-hydrophobic character, for example as absorption and extraction agents, as solvents and as additives to hydraulic fluids.
Abstract: Polymers comprising a plurality of adjacent activated unsaturations and which are hydrophilic are particularly useful as wet and dry strength improvers for cellulosic substrates.
Abstract: Polyhydroxylated sequenced oligomer surfactants of the formula:HO--C.sub.2 H.sub.3 (CH.sub.2 OH)O--.sub.n --C.sub.2 H.sub.3 (CH.sub.2 ZR)O--.sub.m --C.sub.2 H.sub.3 (CH.sub.2 OH)O--.sub.n, Hwhere R is C.sub.14 -C.sub.18 alkyl, Z represents NR.sub.1, HN.sup.30 R.sub.1 V.sup.-, R.sub.1 N.fwdarw.O, R.sub.1 NO.sup.+ HV.sup.-, R.sub.1 N.sup.+ CH.sub.2 COO.sup.-, R.sub.1 R.sub.2 N.sup.+ Y.sup.-, R.sub.1 R.sub.2 NX.sup.- or S.fwdarw.(O)a wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are methyl, ethyl or hydroxyethyl; X is Cl or Br, Y is an anion and V is an anion. The oligomers are prepared by successively telomerizing on tertiobutyl alcohol, tertiobutyl glycidyl ether, then epihalohydrin. The tertiobutoxy and halogen substituents are then replaced by OH and Z groups respectively. These compounds can be used as surfactants in, particularly, cosmetic compositions.
Abstract: A method for manufacturing bromine and bromine-iodine agents with detergent and disinfecting activity which comprises reacting a complex dibromineiodine ion [IBr.sub.2 ].sup.- or iodine bromide IBr with non-ionic surfactants, e.g. fatty alcohols extended with ethylene oxide, alkylphenols extended with ethylene oxide etc. When [IBr.sub.2 ].sup.- -ion is used in the synthesis, a bromine complex compound corresponding to the general formulaR--(OC.sub.n H.sub.2n).sub.x --OH . . . Br--Br . . . HO--(C.sub.n H.sub.2n O).sub.x --R,wherein R represents an alkyl, alkylamido, aryl or alkylaryl radical of 6-32 carbon atoms n is an integer from 2 to 4 and x is an integer representing the number of oxyalkylene groups and has a value from 2 to 50, is obtained.When using an IBr compound in the synthesis, a bromine-iodine complex compound corresponding to the formulaR--(OC.sub.n H.sub.2n).sub.x --OH . . . I--Br . . . HO--(C.sub.n H.sub.2n O).sub.x --R,wherein R, n and x have the meanings given above, is obtained.
