Patent number: 8764668Abstract: A medical blood pressure transducer that provides an identifier to a monitor that conveys characteristics of the transducer. The monitor can use the information to decide whether to function, or in calibration of the system. The transducer may be part of a disposable blood pressure monitoring system, and may include two transducers closely-spaced to provide two separate but identical outputs. In this way, the transducer may be connected to both a patient monitor and a cardiac output monitor at the same time measurements from a single line can be simultaneously supplied to two separate monitoring devices (for example a patient monitor and a cardiac output monitor). The identifier for the transducer may be circuitry, specifically a resistance/capacitance (RC) combination that possesses a characteristic time constant.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2009Date of Patent: July 1, 2014Assignee: Edwards Lifesciences CorporationInventors: Luchy Roteliuk, Weldon Dean West, Douglas Meyer, Jr., Luong N. Patent number: 8684940Abstract: An electronic sphygmomanometer acquires a patient ID and recommended site information read from an ID card before measurement. The recommended site indicating the site to be attached to a cuff of a left site or a right site is thereby specified for every person to be measured (patient ID). Thereafter, the site to be attached to the cuff is guided by notifying the specified recommended site to the person to be measured.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2011Date of Patent: April 1, 2014Assignee: Omron Healthcare Co., Ltd.Inventor: Tameo Ashida

Patent number: 7717856Abstract: A sphygmomanometer having an elongated tube, an air chamber coupled to a first end of the tube, and a liquid chamber coupled to a second end of the tube. The liquid chamber is partially filled with fluid and is couplable to a source of external pressure. An offset region located proximate the second end of the tube has a significantly reduced cross-sectional area so as to reduce the effect of fluid level changes on pressure measurement accuracy. At least one ventilation valve is coupled to the elongated tube and the air chamber and is operative to vent the elongated tube and the air chamber to atmosphere.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2005Date of Patent: May 18, 2010Assignee: QDevice Medical Inc.Inventors: Yunquan Chen, Jian Liu

Patent number: 6752764Abstract: A sphygmomanometer with an air reservoir connected above a tube for a mercury column and a selectively openable and closeable valve to the air reservoir. With the valve open, first blood pressure measurements can be made by pressure rising in the mercury reservoir. With the valve closed, the air above the mercury column resists rise in the mercury column but also permits higher pressure measurements using the same mercury column. One scale at the mercury tube measures the pressure with the valve open and another scale at the tube measures the pressure with the valve closed. The measurements with the valve closed are calibrated by appropriately altering the volume of the air reservoir depending upon altitude at barometric pressure. The sphygmomanometer can be used to perform a mercury drop test for determining the altitude at which the sphygmomanometer is located.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2002Date of Patent: June 22, 2004Inventor: Man S.
