Abstract: A medical device useful for collecting samples of a bodily fluid, typically a vascular fluid such as blood. The subject device can also be used for infusing liquids into a patient. The fluid flow path desirably includes a forwardly projecting, rearwardly biased needle, a needle holder and a length of plastic tubing, the forwardly extending end of which is configured to function as a fluid seal to reduce the likelihood of fluid leakage during or after use. Following use, the needle is retractable from the patient by sliding a needle retraction cavity transversely into longitudinal alignment with the needle, thereby disrupting the fluid flow path and propelling the needle rearwardly so that it no longer projects from the device.

Abstract: A catheter fixture 11 for fixing a tubular catheter 1 to skin of a patient is provided with a plate shaped fixture main body 21, a fixing member 41 that is configured separately from the fixture main body, and a pivot connecting shaft 45. The plate shaped fixture main body 21 includes a retention part 22 where a catheter retaining groove 25 is formed, and a pair of winged pieces 23a and 23b. The pivot connecting shaft 45 both connects the fixture main body 21 and the fixing member 41 and acts as the pivot access C1 of the fixing member 41. The fixing member 41 has a pivoting action along a horizontal plane direction of the fixture main body 21 centrally around the pivot connecting shaft 45. When doing so, the catheter retaining groove 25 is covered by the fixing member 41 thereby fixing the catheter 1.

  • Patent number: 8771230
Abstract: An integrated vascular delivery system and method of use, the system including: a frame having a catheter hub that provides a first anchoring point on the patient and receives a catheter insertable in the patient to transfer fluid at an insertion site, a stabilization hub that provides a second anchoring point on the patient, at least one lateral member extending between the catheter and stabilization hubs, and a fluidic channel. The frame operates in a folded configuration in which the hubs are coupleable and an unfolded configuration in which the anchoring points are distributed around the insertion site to anchor the frame to the patient, thereby stabilizing the catheter. In some embodiments, the system further includes a septum that helps prevent fluid leakage from the catheter hub, or a needle shield that covers the distal end of a needle used during catheter insertion.

  • Patent number: 8734400
Abstract: A catheter securement device 100 holds a medical article such as a catheter in position upon the body of a patient and at least inhibits longitudinal movement of the medical article. The securement device 100 includes a retainer 102 and a clamp 104. The retainer 102 and clamp 104 include interengaging structure. The interengaging structure may be a ratchet mechanism by which a medical provider tightens the clamp against the retainer. The ratchet mechanism allows a single securement system to be used with medical articles that have different longitudinal lengths as well as medical articles that have distally located contact surfaces. The retainer forms a channel 106 into which at least a portion of the medical article is inserted. Each of the retainer 102 and the clamp 104 include at least one abutment surface that can abut against a contact point or surface on the medical article.

  • Patent number: 8684976
Abstract: A method of securing a medical article to the body of a patient is disclosed in which an anchoring device comprising an anchor and a retainer is used. The retainer is attached to an upper surface of the anchor and comprises a base, a cover and a post. The base is disposed on the upper surface of the anchor and the cover is connected to the base so as to move between an open and a closed position. When the cover is in the closed position, it lies above at least part of the base. The post is attached movably to either the base or the cover and is arranged so as to lie at least partially between the cover and the base when the cover is in the closed position. When securing a medical article, the cover is placed in the open position and the medical article placed onto the retainer. The cover may then be closed over the medical article and the anchoring device attached to the patient.
