  • Patent number: 10369303
Abstract: A trocar for use in a minimally invasive surgical procedure includes an elongated body, nozzle means and means for delivering a pressurized flow of fluid to the nozzle means. The elongated body has a generally tubular configuration with coaxially arranged inner and outer walls and longitudinally opposed proximal and distal end portions, with the inner wall defining a lumen to accommodate passage of an instrument therethrough. The nozzle means is operatively associated with the inner wall of the body for directing pressurized fluid into the lumen to develop a pressure differential in an area within a region extending from a location adjacent a distal end portion of the lumen to a location adjacent a proximal end portion of the lumen, to form a fluid seal around an instrument passing therethrough.

  • Patent number: 8926592
Abstract: An apparatus for cleansing and promoting tissue growth in wounds, in which irrigant fluid optionally containing cell nutrients and/or other physiologically active material from a reservoir connected to a conformable wound dressing and wound exudate from the dressing are recirculated by a device for moving fluid through a flow path which passes through the dressing, a biodegradable scaffold in contact with the wound bed and a means for fluid cleansing and back to the dressing. The apparatus has means for supplying thermal energy to the fluid in the wound. The cleansing means (which may be a single-phase, e.g. micro-filtration, system or a two-phase, e.g. dialytic system) removes materials deleterious to wound healing, and the cleansed fluid, still containing materials that are beneficial in promoting wound healing, is returned to the wound bed. The dressing and a method of treatment using the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 8920391
Abstract: A container for use in a system for spray coating a human subject includes a container body configured to hold a skin coating composition. The container further includes a first end portion having a male coupling valve, where the male coupling valve is configured to couple to a female fitting disposed in a spraying apparatus, where the male coupling valve is further configured to prevent flow of the skin composition from the container while the male coupling valve is not coupled to the female fitting. The container further includes a second end portion opposite the first end portion and having a vent, where the container is configured for inverted connection to the spraying apparatus such that when the male coupling valve is connected to the female fitting the male coupling valve is at a location below the vent, and where opening of the vent allows airflow into the container as the skin coating composition flows out of the container through the male coupling valve.

  • Patent number: 8911413
Abstract: A hemostatic valve device for use in inserting an interventional device into a body lumen of patient is provided. The valve device includes a housing that defines a cavity between first and second end openings. A valve structure is disposed within the cavity, and defines a variable diameter channel for receiving the interventional device. The valve structure can include discrete layers of material, such as a sealing layer and a contractible layer such as a biaxial braided layer. The end of the valve structure is movable relative to the fixed end so that the longitudinal passageway of the valve structure varies in diameter and axial length to form a seal against an interventional device inserted within the passageway. An operable element is coupled to the movable end and is actuated by the end user to open and close the valve structure.

In one instance, an apparatus includes a first valve and a second valve in fluid communication with a reduced-pressure source. The valves are movable between an open position and a closed position and are operable to change flow status (open to closed or vice versa) based on a presence of reduced pressure. At least one of the first valve or the second valve is in the closed position to obstruct a flow of a liquid while the other is in the open position. The apparatus also includes a reservoir fluidly coupled to the first valve and the second valve. Other systems, methods, and apparatuses are presented.
