An ostomy device may include an ostomy pouch and an ostomy wafer coupled to the ostomy pouch that includes an external layer and a convex surface coupled to the external layer.

Abstract: A convex ostomy appliance (10) may be configured to have a softness of about 32.6 N*mm to about 68.9 N*mm, wherein the softness is measured in energy expended to compress 3 mm of the convex portion, and a flexibility of about 105.2 N*mm to about 186.6 N*mm, wherein the flexibility is measured in energy expended to deform the ostomy appliance by 30%. The convex ostomy appliance may include a coupling flange (22), a floating flange film (24) having one end secured to the coupling flange, a soft convex insert (26) having a recess (46) in which another end of the floating flange film is secured, an adhesive (28) extending over the soft convex insert, and a stoma opening (18) extending through at least the coupling flange, the floating flange film and the soft convex insert.

Abstract: An ostomy appliance that comprises a convex ring insert member. The insert member can have a curved body-side surface, an opposing pouch-side surface defining an internal cavity and an annular curved body portion between an outside flange and an engagement portion encircling a centrally-located input opening. The engagement portion can comprise a plurality of spaced-apart flexible tabs. The internal cavity can be defined by interior surfaces of the flexible tabs and the curved body portion. The flexible tabs can have flexibility to bend toward the internal cavity. A backfill material can be applied into the internal cavity along the interior surfaces of at least some of the flexible tabs. The backfill material can be removable from the ring insert. Upon application of the backfill material, the flexibility of some of the flexible tabs can be reduced to provide a localized rigid support segment along the engagement portion.

Abstract: Certain embodiments of the present application relate to an adjustable ostomy wafer system including an ostomy wafer and an insert ring. The ostomy wafer includes an adjustable layer with an effluent opening through which effluent flows, and the adjustable layer has a body-facing side and a non-body-facing side. The insert ring is capable of providing or increasing convexity of the adjustable layer when the insert ring is pressed against the non-body-facing side of the adjustable layer.

Abstract: A more comfortable ostomy bag that will not irritate the skin from relative movement. The ostomy bag has a pair of flexible flat sheets of material bonded together at juxtaposed edges to form a seam. A soft outer edge outside of the seam is formed by extensions of the sheets that either remain disconnected so as to form loose flaps or are slit radially to form finger-like extensions, or both. The ostomy bag further has an inlet opening formed through one of the flat sheets.

Abstract: A powder transfer bag includes a balloon or a membrane sealing its mouth. A connector to be used with the bags allows the bag to connect to a hydration device. A method of hydrating material in a powder transfer bag is provided.

Abstract: An ostomy appliance that comprises a ring member and a rib member. The ring member has an interior surface and an engagement portion encircling a centrally-located input opening. The engagement portion comprises a plurality of spaced-apart flexible tabs extending radially inward into the input opening. The flexible tabs have an opening centrally located between opposing side edges. A plurality of spaced-apart teeth extend radially inward from the ring member. The teeth are in alignment with spaces between the plurality of flexible tabs. The rib member has a curved body portion, a dowel, pins and a notched section in the body portion. The rib member is removably securable to the ring member whereby the pins are insertable into openings of adjacent flexible tabs and one of the plurality of spaced-apart teeth is received within the notched section such that the notched section is seated on the inside surface of the tooth.

Abstract: A convex ostomy barrier includes a skin barrier, an inlet opening for receiving a stoma, and a convex insert. The convex insert includes an inner flange, an outer flange, and a middle portion arranged therebetween. The middle portion includes a pouch side surface for attaching a flange, a core-out portion configured to improve the flexibility of the convex insert, and a skin barrier support structure for supporting the skin barrier.

The insert ring 100 is capable of providing or increasing convexity of the adjustable layer when the insert ring 100 is pressed against the non-body-facing side of the adjustable layer.

The slots of the closure assistant are of different shapes to support different kinds of clips. The closure assistant accommodates either curved or linear type of clips. The closure assistant helps the patients, suffering from medical issues requiring an ostomy pouching system or colostomy bag and the related problems of using colostomy bag.

The tracheostoma device holder may comprise a skirt for attachment over a tracheostoma via a skin adhesive proximal side thereof, wherein the skirt is provided with a through hole. The tracheostoma device holder may comprise a tubular tracheostoma device fitting arranged circumferentially of the through hole. The tubular tracheostoma device fitting may comprise a sleeve extending distally from a distal side of the skirt, and an annular lip. The lip may extend proximally and centrally from the sleeve.

Abstract: A waste collection bag adapted for use by a person having a colostomy, an ileostomy, or a urostomy. The waste collection bag has a rear wall, a front wall on an opposite side of the waste collection bag from the rear wall, and a waste inlet formed in the rear wall of the waste collection bag. The waste inlet sized to fit around a stoma that has been formed through skin of the person. At least the front wall of the waste collection bag has a wall color characterized by a color value measured by a CMYK color code system, where the color value is in a range of: M from 0 to 15; Y from 0 to 10; and K from 10 to 25.

Abstract: An ostomy appliance includes a multilayer composite film comprising at least one foam layer. An outer foam layer can function as a skin contact layer providing comfort and softness characteristics that are comparable to a nonwoven comfort layer. Preferably, at least one foam layer includes a vinyl-bond rich triblock copolymer and provides sound absorbing properties. The multilayer composite film can also include at least one layer comprising a filler to further enhance sound absorbing properties.

Abstract: A stomal diverter device includes a catheter, a stoma rod, and a bracket. The catheter includes a first tube having an open end, a second tube spaced from the first tube having a closed end, and a drain tube. The stoma rod is positioned between the first and second tubes and includes structure to releasably attach the stoma rod to the abdomen of the patient. The bracket is supported on the catheter and the stoma rod and defines a locking feature that is configured to engage a mating feature of the stoma rod to secure the catheter between the stoma rod and the bracket.

Abstract: An ostomy attachment comprises a flexible annular seal configured to embrace a stoma and a spout that in use is disposed beneath the stoma and configured to collect ostomy output at skin level and direct ostomy output away from the patient and annular seal and into an ostomy bag, in which the flexible annular seal is formed from an absorbent material and the spout is formed from a non-absorbent material. The annular seal may be an open ring comprising at least one mouldable arm that in use can be wrapped at least partially around the patients' stoma.

Abstract: A controlled discharge ostomy appliance assembly comprises (i) a stoma seal that is self-urging with a dynamic damping characteristic that resists changes of seal volume, (ii) a press-fit coupling member displaceable from an unlocked position to a locked position as part of a press-fit process, and (iii) a single-use frangible portion. The assembly further includes a protector shield removably fastened to the appliance forming a combined assembly therewith. Abstract: An ostomy pouch apparatus including a first and second sheets of flexible sheet material having perimeter edge portions and respective broad surface portions, the first and second sheets joined at the perimeter edge portions to form a pouch having an interior portion between the first and second sheets. The apparatus includes a waste admitting opening on the broad surface portion of the first sheet for admitting and subsequently removing a waste holding bag disposed within the interior portion of the pouch, and a coupling disposed about the waste admitting opening for connecting to a flange secured to a waste releasing opening on a patient. At least one of the broad surface portions of the pouch includes a closable opening for admitting a waste holding bag, and that reduces the risk of spillage of the contents of the waste holding bag as it is removed from the pouch.

Abstract: For a person who has a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (“PEG”) tube and an esophagus stoma, a method for using an ostomy pouch is provided, where inlet of the ostomy pouch is connected to the esophagus stoma and an outlet connected to one end of an interconnecting tube. An opposing end of the interconnecting tube is connected to the PEG tube, so that when the person consumes matter by mouth, the matter flows out the stoma, through the ostomy pouch, the interconnecting tube and the PEG tube, and into the stomach.

Abstract: There is provided a disposable ostomy bag assembly (1) comprising a bag (3) for receiving bodily waste materials; a compactable sheath (2) for closing and sealing the bag (3) after use; and a flange (4) for securing the assembly to the body of a patent and provided with an orifice to enable bodily waste to be received by the bag (3). The ostomy assembly (1) solves the problem of escaping malodour and bodily waste when the patient detaches the ostomy bag from the body (face plate (5)). The compactable sheath (2) can be stretched to acquire a cylindrical sheath (2) extending from the flange (4), whereby the sheath (2) may be closed in order to seal the contents of the bag (3). Closing the sheath (2) may simply be done by tying a knot (6).

A first opening is defined by the pouch for receiving a stoma and communicating discharge from the stoma into the cavity. The ostomy appliance also includes a face plate having a first side secured to the pouch and a second opposing side that includes an adhesive for securing the pouch to a patient. A second opening is defined by the face plate and is generally aligned with the first opening. Further, the ostomy appliance includes one or more tabs for coupling a belt thereto, wherein the one or more tabs are coupled directly to the face plate.

Abstract: A drainable ostomy pouch includes a collection portion and a drain chute portion extending from the collection portion and having a discharge opening for permitting emptying of contents from the pouch. The drain chute is foldable between an open condition in which the drain chute portion is extended from the collection portion, and a closed condition in which the drain chute portion is folded towards the collection portion. At least one flap retains the folded drain chute portion.

Abstract: An ostomy device including a bag, a lid, and a vent. The lid is replaceably attached to the bag, attaches to a site of a stoma of a patient, and self-seals to the stoma of the patient. The vent is operatively connected to the bag, and vents gas emanating from the stoma of the patient to prevent build-up of the gas that could detach the ostomy device from the site of the stoma of the patient and require rettachments that could irritate skin of the patient at the site of the stoma of the patient.

Abstract: An ostomy collecting device for attachment to the body comprising a collecting pouch and an adhesive wafer, the wafer comprises a soft adhesive layer and a backing layer wherein the wafer is more stretchable in a first direction than in a second direction. The anisotropic nature of the wafer facilitates a flexible wafer during use and secures easy removal.

This provides a sealing wafer which is particularly suitable for use with a stoma around which the skin has an uneven curvature, such as a retracted stoma wherein the stoma has pulled back resulting in a crater-like area.

Abstract: A convex shell for use in a base plate of an ostomy appliance includes an annular ring defined by an outer edge and an inner edge of defining a through-going hole. The annular ring has at least four transition sections extending transversely across the annular ring, dividing the annular ring into at least a first, second, third and fourth segment. By changing the characteristics of the convex shell in such sections, it is possible to control the bending of the shell. The shell also makes it possible to keep the area around the stoma more stable and resistant towards collapsing, while providing improved flexibility in the peristomal area for better comfort.

Abstract: Radially divided adhesive wafers are provided for applying to the skins of a human, and which increase the wear time for such adhesive wafers. The adhesive wafer includes a through-going hole for communication with a body opening and an adhesive proximal side for attachment of the wafer to the skin. The adhesive wafer has an inner annular adhesive layer, an outer annular adhesive layer encircling the inner annular adhesive layer, an attachment zone on the distal side of the wafer for attaching a collection bag, and a connecting element for mechanically connecting the first annular adhesive layer to the second annular adhesive layer. The connecting element includes first and second connection areas on the distal side of the respective first and second annular adhesive layers, at least one connection area being radially spaced from the radial edges of the respective annular adhesive layer.

Abstract: The invention relates to an, for patients with faecal/urinary incontinence, auxiliary device in the form of a, on the skin around the anus, glued collection bag made of suitable and skin-friendly plastic that is foldable 180 degrees in the patient's front or back position. The design eliminates or substantially reduces the direct contact with faeces and thereby reduces the instances of possible contamination. The collection bag is equipped with channels for water rinsing 9, ointment application 10 and deodorising filters F. The collection bag can be used continuously for several days. The collection bag can easily be removed from the patient by means of the top 6 being made of light-sensitive adhesives. When the collection bag is removed, the bag can easily be sealed with the lid 8 and transported by means of the carrying handle 7.

Abstract: A convex barrier ring, that includes a generally oval shaped body and tapered peripheral end portions, is provided. In use, the convex barrier ring is sealed against peristomal skin surfaces such that the tapered peripheral end portions are aligned with folds or creases in the skin surfaces to reduce leakage of stomal effluent. The convex barrier can also have an oval stoma-receiving aperture to provide an improved fit for oval or loop stomas.

Abstract: An ostomy device is provided including an ostomy pouch having an entrance opening, a body attachment wafer having a through-going opening and a coupling layer, which couples the pouch to the body attachment wafer and has a central opening therein. The body attachment wafer includes a plastic film, which is coated with a layer of skin friendly adhesive on the side thereof distal to the ostomy pouch. The coupling layer is affixed to the body attachment wafer along an attachment line extending around the central opening in the coupling layer, the attachment line being distanced from the central opening in the coupling layer. The region around the entrance opening of the pouch is affixed to the coupling layer in a landing zone located between the attachment line and the opening in the body attachment wafer.

Abstract: Providing a method for forming an opening of a shape precisely matching the stoma of a patient in a base plate of a stoma device. A method of forming an opening in a base plate of a stoma device according to the present invention comprises a step of printing on a label a filled-in-part of the same shape as a hole of a shape formed on a template sheet and matching the stoma of a patient, a step of sticking the label on which the filled-in-part has been printed on to a base plate, and a step of cutting the base plate along the contours of the filled-in-part of the label stuck to the base plate.
