Plural Compartments Or Bags Patents (Class 604/410)
  • Patent number: 8109917
Abstract: Disclosed is a dispenser having a first chamber containing a first fluid and a second chamber containing a second material. Each chamber has screw threads that are selectively joinable so that the first and second chambers are twistable relative to one another. The first chamber includes an open top end that is, before use, covered with a breakable membrane. A breaker ring is located within the second chamber and is configured to break the breakable membrane when the dispenser is transitioned between an extended position and a compact position. In the compact position with the breakable membrane broken, the first fluid and second material form a mixture that can be dispensed via an opening in an openable tip.

  • Patent number: 8066127
Abstract: An apparatus and method for collecting whole blood and then separating it into components for subsequent use or storage. A self-contained bag set is used to collect the sample, which may then be placed into a device adapted to fit into a centrifuge for separation of components. Each component is then sequentially extracted according to density, with a sensor present in the device to control the operation of valves directing the collection of each component. The sensor may be reading one or more of the following characteristics: infrared, optics, density, weight, radioactive, fluorescence, color, magnetism, ultrasonic, capacitance wherein the characteristic is inherent in the blood and blood component or is an additive. Each component may then be separated into its own storage container. The preferred sensors include optics and weight.

  • Patent number: 8052631
Abstract: The invention provides container systems, kits and methods for peritoneal dialysis (PD) solutions. Such a system, for example, includes a first compartment that contains a PD osmotic agent and a second compartment that contains a PD buffer agent. The compartments maintain their respective contents separately from one another for purposes of transport, storage and/or sterilization. However, the compartments are fluidly couplable, so that their respective contents can be combined with one another, e.g., following sterilization of the agents and prior to their introduction into the patient's abdomen. The invention provides, in other aspects, such systems, kits and methods that provide protective structure which inhibits breaking of a seal prior between the second compartment and an outlet of the system, prior to breaking of a seal between the first and second compartments.

  • Patent number: 7935101
Abstract: The present invention relates to a multi-chamber medical bag, which is capable of obtaining a positive mixture of medicines, prior to the discharge thereof. A weak seal 24 is provided for dividing the space inside the medical bag 10 into the left-handed and right-handed partitions 26-1 and 26-2. The weak seal 24 has a first portion 24-1 extending between the partitions 26-1 and 26-2 and a bifurcated adjacent to and faced with an outlet port 12. Additional strong seals 30-1 and 30-2 are arranged on both sides of the second portion 24-2 and extend at right angle to the first portion 241 toward the strong seal 14 at the outer periphery of the medical bag. When the partition 26-1 or 26-2 is pressed, the resultant inflated deformation of the medical bag is mainly directed to the first portion 24-1 due to the existence of the additional strong seals 30-1 and 30-2, which allows the last portion to be separated, resulting in a mixing of the medicines in the partitions 26-1 and 26-2.

  • Patent number: 7867214
Abstract: In a peritoneal dialysis embodiment of the present invention, spent dialysate from the patient's peritoneal cavity passes, along a patient loop, through a dialyzer having a membrane that separates waste components from the spent dialysate, wherein the patient loop returns fresh dialysate to the patient's peritoneal cavity. The waste components are carried away in a second regeneration loop to a regeneration unit or sorbent cartridge, which absorbs the waste components. The regeneration unit removes undesirable components in the dialysate that were removed from the patient loop by the dialyzer, for example, excess water (ultrafiltrate or UF), toxins and metabolic wastes. Desirable components can be added to the dialysate by the system, such as glucose and electrolytes. The interior of the bag is divided into two chambers by a third flexible sheet having a screen-like stripe with its distal end located at the bottom of the bag. The third sheet has a bore affixed around its edge onto the annular plane of the bushing end projecting into the bag. The first chamber communicates with, through the bushing, a solvent inlet and is partially filled with powdered solute. The inside of the second chamber has a layer separate from the bag. The second chamber layer, constructed of a woven or injected material, extends from a semicircular recess made in correspondence with the bushing to the bottom of the second chamber. The bushing provides the opening for removal of the resulting solution.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a connector for packaging containing medical fluids, in particular infusion or transfusion bags, including a tubular connection part for receiving a spike for the withdrawal of fluid, and having a lower opening on the packaging side and an upper opening on the connection side. A self-sealing membrane, which is pierced by the spike, is located in the connection part. The membrane has an upper, annular section leading into a lower, plate-shaped section, said annular section of the membrane surrounding the spike in a sealing manner, when the latter pierces the plate-shaped section. The membrane acts as a guide for the spike and also reseals the connector, once the spike has been removed.
