Cutter Combined With Other Tool Or Tools Patents (Class 7/158)
  • Patent number: 5983430
Abstract: The invention is a combination welder's slag hammer and reamer. The slag hammer part of the combination tool may be of conventional design, that is, a handle, a shaft connected to and extending from the handle on one end of the shaft, a head connected to the other end of the shaft, the head having a sharpened blade on one end for knocking off the weld spatter. The reamer part of the combination tool may be anywhere on the hammer. Preferably, the reamer is on the head, at the opposite end from the blade. This way, the hammer handle may be simply rotated to use the blade end or the reamer end. Generally, the reamer is of cylindrical construction so that it easily fits inside the nozzle. Preferably, the reamer is tapered from smaller to larger from the end to the middle of the hammer head. This way, nozzles of different diameters may be cleaned by the same reamer. The reamer has facets or edges on its surface for scraping the weld spatter off the inside of the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 5979913
Abstract: A universal driving and setting tool is used to drive and set an anchor, such as a concrete anchor, having an anchor sleeve and an anchor slug positioned within a bore formed in the anchor sleeve. The driving and setting tool includes an attachment that fits over standard drill bits used in a hammer drill for drilling a hole in a substrate, such as concrete, in which the anchor is set. The attachment engages an end of the drill bit and can fit over drill bits having different lengths and having shanks of different shapes. The driving and setting tool also includes a reversible adapter that is positioned in the attachment in either a first or second position. In a first position, an anchor sleeve hammering portion on the reversible adapter faces outwardly to hammer the anchor sleeve into the hole within the substrate.

  • Patent number: 5933893
Abstract: A multi-purpose tool housing is provided having an implement that is rotatably stowable in an individual housing opening. The opening includes a separate lock plate that engages the end surfaces of a pivot plate that extends from an inner end portion of the implement. The end surfaces are angularly oriented to permit the lock plate to not only secure the implement in a storage mode, but also secure the implement in predetermined angular orientations for convenience of use. A spring biased plunger, flexible bands and spring members operate between the housing and implement to automatically move a portion of the implement out of the housing opening to a predetermined access orientation. Thereafter, a user may readily grasp the implement and rotate it to the desired use position. When scissors are being used with a flex strip between the scissors handles, a bumper part coacts with the lock plate to hold the handles together for storage against the flexural bias of the flex strip.

  • Patent number: 5911761
Abstract: A type of stapler has a handle that permits it to be used like a hammer. The end of the handle is modified to permit it to receive the body of a utility knife. The latter is retained within the handle by a screw that replaces the screw which previously held the halves of the utility knife together. The blade-retracting lever of the utility knife is made accessible on the upper portion of the handle. The blade of the utility knife can be extended and retracted at the end of the tool opposite the staple-dispensing end of the stapler. The handle of the stapler serves as the handle of the utility knife. The tool thus formed is useful to persons who work with sheets of material that must be stapled to an underlying structure then trimmed to the shape of the structure and/or cut free from a roll of sheet material.

  • Patent number: 5745997
Abstract: A multi-purpose folding tool including a pair of folding scissors, in which a scissors blade is movable about a pivot shaft, between a stowed position and a deployed position in which a stop prevents the blade from moving further with respect to the handle because of pressure on the handle in the direction needed to close the scissors blades in a cutting stroke. A rocker is moved by a spring in the tool handle and which in turn urges a movable scissors blade toward an open position. In one embodiment two handles are folded about respective scissors blades to house the blades, and four springs hold the handles together with the folded scissors stowed within the handles. When the blades are deployed one of the springs holds each blade in position with respect to the handle while the other spring urges the blades toward an open position, through action of a rocker.

Abstract: A combination ring cutting and removing device is provided for use by medical personnel for cutting and removing rings from injured or swollen fingers. If the finger that carries a ring is badly injured, the swelling of the injured finger often precludes the removal of the ring. The ring must be cut in order to restore circulation to the swollen finger. The combined ring cutting and ring removing device is provided in the form of a plier-type cutting device with a built in means for prying the cut ring apart so the ring can be removed from a swollen finger. The device may also be used for non-medical applications that require a cutting action followed by a prying or separating action.

  • Patent number: 5299714
Abstract: The sharp end of this tool, fitted with an ordinary oil filter socket is centered against the bottom of an installed vehicular oil filter. Using an ordinary socket wrench attached to the other end of this tool, as a handle, the sharp end is pushed through the thin sheetmetal housing and interior partition of the oil filter. Once this tool has punctured the two sheetmetal surfaces, friction between: the tool and the two sheetmetal surfaces; and the ordinary oil filter socket and the exterior of the oil filter, holds the tool suspended from the oil filter. Once punctured, the oil filter drains through the hollow interior of this tool to the low end, where the flow is checked by a simple valve. To drain the oil filter and the tool, the valve is simply opened and the contents flow into a suitable container. After the flow has stopped: the valve is closed (to avoid drips); an ordinary socket wrench reattached to the tool; and the oil filter is removed in the customary fashion, less oil streaming down your arm.
