Abstract: By forming a combination padlock from heavy duty metal throughout with an enlarged, heavy duty locking bar or shackle being employed having a tamper-proof holding cavity for the terminating, locking end of the locking bar, an effective, easily produced, high security padlock is achieved which employs a combination system for fully operating the padlock. In addition, the combination padlock of the present invention incorporates tumbler or clutch wheel constructions which cooperate with the rotating dials to virtually eliminate any possibility that an unauthorized person would be capable of gaining access to the padlock by known combination lock picking techniques by forming each tumbler or clutch wheel with a plurality of radially extending fins formed thereon, with each of the fins being arcuately spaced from the adjacent fin in a non-symmetrical pattern.

  • Patent number: 6474116
Abstract: By employing the present invention, a combination lock is achieved which provides two separate and independent locking members formed in a single combination lock. Preferably, the combination lock of the present invention incorporates, either independently or in combination with a visual indicator, two separate and independent locking members, such as a shackle and/or flexible cable member. In the preferred construction, the elongated flexible cable member is anchored at one end thereof to the housing of the padlock, with the opposed end being removably lockable to the housing. By employing a portion of the shackle as a locking component for the elongated flexible cable, the rotatable dials associated with the combination lock are employed for locking and unlocking both the shackle and the flexible cable. By achieving a combination lock having this unique, dual locking member, the user is provided with a greater sense of security and enhanced protection.

  • Patent number: 6434981
Abstract: A combination lock having a housing, a shackle, a dial, a pushbutton, and a lock assembly. The lock assembly is made of a group of rotating disks having windows that can be aligned to open the lock. When the dial is turned according to the combination of the lock, the windows become aligned so that the user can depress the pushbutton to release the shackle. The pushbutton travels in a direction that is perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the dial. When the shackle is locked again, the pushbutton returns to its original position. As the pushbutton travels back to its original position, portions of the lock assembly are turned so that the combination must be reentered in order to reopen the lock.

  • Patent number: 4959978
Abstract: A combination lock or padlock having pushbuttons where the combination of buttons to be pushed to open the lock is mechanically programmable by the user is disclosed. The lock has a case and a locking arm and associated slider, moveable between a locked and unlocked position. A plurality of buttons project from at least one side of the case, and are owner-reversible between two orientations and moveable through holes in the case between first and second positions. In one orientation, movement of the locking means is barred in the first position and permitted in the second position, and in the other orientation movement is permitted in the first position and barred in the second position. The orientation of any button is not being visually ascertainable from outside the case, so the lock owner can program the combination of the lock by selecting the orientation of the respective buttons.

  • Patent number: 4952228
Abstract: A push-button padlock having a swivel-only shackle, the free end of which is receivingly engaged by a sleeve that is reciprocable into the padlock body housing upon actuation of a thumb latch member projecting through the housing, preferably through a hole in the front face. The shackle is an inverted J-shaped shackle with the longer end entrained in the padlock body where it engages a latching mechanism which includes the thumb latch and shackle sleeve members. The thumb latch is preferably of breakaway construction and the sleeve may be rotatable. A locking mechanism of any desired type to selectively lock and unlock the latching mechanism may be employed. One preferred locking mechanism is of push-button type, and another preferred locking mechanism is a key lock mechanism, both of which are operative to selectively lock and unlock the latching mechanism that may be employed.

Abstract: The hanging lock is opened and closed by adjusting numbers. It comprises a U-shaped locking rod (10), having a stop (11), a slide plate (40), an upper cover (30), and a lower plate (20). The slide plate is located between the upper cover and the lower cover. Two dials (53, 54) are provided and a reed (55). The lower cover (20) has two semicircular grooves (21, 22) for insertion of the locking rod when the device is assembled. A spring (50) is disposed at the end of the longer arm of the locking rod (10) and a pair of posts are located on the lower cover. A slide rail (27) disposed between the posts has a concave portion for fitting a spring. The slide rail protrudes at one end of the form a flange (24) and is capable of moving backward and forward to open and close the locking device. The dials (53, 54) are placed on top of circular holes on the slide plate. Number cases (60) are installed on the top of each of the circular holes of the slide plate to get up with the number dial by means of the convex block.

  • Patent number: 4866958
Abstract: A sequence dependent push-button lock mechanism having compression loaded locking rod assemblies, arcuate segments of which are placed in compression if attempts are made to force the lock open, and unlocking by rotating the arcuate segments out of compression engagement with a sliding block associated with a thumb-actuated reciprocating shackle sleeve, particularly adapted for use in padlocks and deadbolt/cabinet locks. The locks are applicable to use in combination with pivot-only shackles in the padlock form, and thumb-actuated shackle or deadbolt release mechanisms. The thumb latch is of a break-away type to deter plurality of holes in a spaced array for receiving spring biased automatic return push-button assemblies which actuate locking rods that are disposed to rotate upon selective engagement with various combinations of special "T" and "C" shaped flanges on button actuator members.

  • Patent number: 4754623
Abstract: An adjustable combination numerical lock comprising a hook, a first tray, a second tray, a contact chip, two or more number dials, springs and driving rolls. The number dials, the springs, and the driving rolls are respectively set in the second tray, and the hook wedged with the contact chip is put on the two trays. When this lock is locked, the sliding strips do not engage with the recesses of the driving rolls, thereby allowing the driving rolls to rotate with the number dials. Therefore, the sliding strips will be prevented from sliding up if the combination is off. When the numbers are put into the right combination, the lock is opened and the sliding strips are partly engaged with the recesses so that the hook can be pulled up. The combination of the lock can be changed (while in opening combination) by turning the hook right 90 degrees and then pulling it up so that the sliding strips are completely engaged with the recesses. This keeps the driving rolls from rotating with the number dials.

  • Patent number: 4751830
Abstract: The application discloses a push-button lock to which a secondary key is added to the locking system for use when the button combination for a lock is forgotten or not readily available. Unlocking with the secondary key is accomplished by the use of a toothed trigger plate and a gear system. The secondary key turns the gear which in turn rotates the trigger plate. A secondary locking pin secured to the trigger plate rotates with the movement of the trigger plate and releases the shackle. When unlocked by the push-button combination, the shackle is released and the trigger plate is separated from the gear. The toothed end of the trigger plate again aligns with the gear when returned to the locked position. In the preferred embodiment alternative, an elongated flange member having a slot in which a pin on the trigger plate travels is employed in place of the system.
