  • Patent number: 4615194
Abstract: A permutation lock comprises a housing into which is inserted a frame. The frame carries an axle on which a plurality of individually rotatable dials are mounted. The axle is joined at one end to the frame and extends longitudinally therefrom in cantilever fashion such that an opposite end of the axle is free of the frame. The dials can be inserted onto the axle over that free end, and the unit comprising the frame and the assembled dials can then be inserted into the housing.

  • Patent number: 4610152
Abstract: A combination lock adapted for securing skis, bicycles and the like, having a lock housing in which setting disks for setting a lock combination are rotatably supported and from which housing there extends fixed thereto, one end of a loop, the other, free end of which is insertable into an insertion channel in the lock housing and is engageable by the inners of the lock. In this respect within the insertion channel of the lock housing a latch is provided for catching the free end of the loop. The latch is seated, displaceable against spring biasing, on a setting-disk mounting shaft and, when the lock combination is correctly set, is disengageable, by a collar on the setting-disk mounting shaft which continues into an outwardly extending actuating button, by displacement together with the mounting shaft.

  • Patent number: 4596125
Abstract: The combination can be set by discs which are toothed on one of their faces. This toothing causes movement of internal bushes or rings which are at least partly contained in seats in a manually controllable slider, which can be moved against a spring when, having set the exact combination, a radial passage in said bushes or rings becomes disposed in a position such as to allow radial movement of the bushes and thus movement of the slider and opening of the lock. The combination can be changed by setting the existing combination and moving the slider and thus the rings, so that these latter disengage from the toothed discs which can thus be rotated into another position without dragging the bushes with them.

The shift member includes a manual actuator extending through an opening in the face plate of the lock which opening extends transversely to the axis of the sleeves and movement of the actuator in the opening in the transverse direction effects axial movement of the sleeves by means of an oblique camming surface on the shift member.

  • Patent number: 4354366
Abstract: A dial and sleeve type combination lock is provided with a shift mechanism for moving the sleeves out of coupling engagement with the dials for changing the combination of the lock. The shift mechanism includes a rotary actuator mounted coaxially with the sleeves and having a portion of its periphery extending through an opening in the face plate of the lock. When the lock is on combination, the actuator can be rotated to move the sleeves out of coupling engagement with the respective dials by a camming action.

  • Patent number: 4354365
Abstract: In a permutation lock, a closing bolt is secured within a bore in the lock housing. Setting wheels on the lock housing can be rotated to a position representing the combination of the lock for releasing the closing bolt. Each setting wheel consists of an inner ring and an outer ring which are interconnected for rotational movement as a unit. The setting wheels extend between stops on the housing. One of the stops is displaceable in the axial direction so that the outer rings can be displaced axially relative to the inner rings for changing the combination of the permutation lock.

  • Patent number: 4343164
Abstract: A dial and sleeve type combination lock is provided with a shift member to move the sleeves out of coupling engagement with the dials for changing the combination of the lock. The shift member is operated by depressing a manual actuator portion thereof in an opening in the lock casing and the shift member includes a cam surface which moves the sleeves out of coupling engagement with the dials responsive to depression of the manual actuator portion by reaction of the shift member with an internal surface of the lock casing.

  • Patent number: 4343163
Abstract: A combination lock of the dial and sleeve type has a scramble feature enabling a hasp to be engaged with a latch of the lock even when the dials and sleeves are not on-combination, by independent movement of the latch relative to manual actuating means of the lock. When the hasp is engaged, it supports the latch in a position in which the latch is adapted to engage a blocking element that prevents the latch from being moved out of its hasp-engaging position independently of the manual actuator. This arrangement effectively prevents the lock from being forced open when the hasp is engaged.

  • Patent number: 4327566
Abstract: A combination lock of improved construction wherein the combination locking means employs key and slot engagements between the sleeves and the shaft, the sleeves being capable of selectively engaging with or disengaging from the dials mounted thereon. The lock also employs a latching piece mounted on one end of the shaft and resiliently moveable along the shaft at any combination with an operating lever mounted on the other end of the shaft to open the lock when moved in one direction and to release the engagement between the dials and sleeves for selecting the opening combination when moved in the opposite direction. The lock of this invention permits the insertion of the eye piece of the hasp member into the lock body without the need of keeping the lock in an opening combination, and also allows the selection of an opening combination by moving the lever for opening the lock toward the opposite direction with the eye piece of the hasp member apart from the lock body.

  • Patent number: 4324120
Abstract: A permutation lock has at least two lock stopping devices each including an arresting disc provided with an intake recess and cooperating via a multipoint arresting device with a setting disc. A lock adjusting slider biased against the arresting disc is provided at one end with an arresting tongue which is engageable with the intake recesses. The other end of the lock adjusting slider has a projection which so cooperates with the actuation slider that when the arresting tongue disengages the intake opening and the actuation slider is in its closing position, the projection on the arresting slider engages a recess in the actuation slider. If the actuation slider is in an opening position, the projection bears on an abutment portion on the actuation slider and the arresting tongues cannot be displaced from the intake openings.

  • Patent number: 4318288
Abstract: A tamper-resistant steering column lock incorporating an improved combination lock is disclosed. The improved combination lock includes an array of discs, each having an electrically conductive member extending therethrough. The disc at one end of the array is connected to the active terminal of the vehicle's electrical system and the disc at the other end of the array is grounded. When the discs are rotated to align the electrically conductive members, a circuit is completed to a solenoid or the like which regulates movement of a locking bolt between its locked and unlocked positions.

  • Patent number: 4318287
Abstract: A combination lock having a latch mechanism capable of being closed even when the lock is off combination employs an axially movable shaft rotatably supporting combination dials and having a latch element for engaging a cooperable hasp, the latch element being spring biased to a latched position. A slide member, the movement of which is blocked when any dial is off combination, is coupled to the latch element and the shaft and connected to a manual actuator for moving the latch element to an unlatched position. The coupling permits the latch element to move to its unlatched position independently of the slide member so that the hasp may enter the lock and be engaged by the latch element when movement of the slide member is blocked. The operating mechanism of the lock is supported on a frame by a support member connected to one end of the shaft and by a shift lever slidably related to the shaft at its opposite end.
