Patent number: 4300372Abstract: A door lock includes a number of code elements for controlling locking and having a clutch including three cams and three cam followers allowing opening when adjusted according to a prescribed code. The cams are balls embedded in a swash plate that wobbles on a bearing ball and are located at the corners of an equilateral triangle. When coded for opening, the three cam followers simultaneously contact the three cams to prevent wobbling and allow the followers to operate as drivers for the swash plate and a lock closing body.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1979Date of Patent: November 17, 1981Inventor: Richard Nienstedt

Patent number: 4287734Abstract: Indicating wheels of a combination lock are normally viewed through respective windows which are displaced from alignment with the wheels when the lock is released. The wheels are then obscured so that the combination to which the lock has been set for release cannot be observed. The windows contain optical lenses.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1979Date of Patent: September 8, 1981Inventor: Leslie V. Herriott

Patent number: 4281525Abstract: Improved hardware for luggage comprises handle studs mounted on a valance member and pivotally supporting latches that are spring-biased to an open position and that are held closed by spring-biased control rods. Manual actuators move the control rods in a direction to release the latches, and a combination lock mounted in one handle stud blocks or permits such movement. In a modification, a single latch and manual actuator are employed with a combination lock disassociated from the luggage handle.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1978Date of Patent: August 4, 1981Assignee: Presto Lock Company, Division of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc.Inventor: Lazlo Bako

Patent number: 4279136Abstract: A combination lock for suitcases, bags, or the like, is disclosed, in which a plurality of engageable blocking sleeves and corresponding number-setting dials cooperate with a latching slide member to permit the selective latching or unlatching of the device. The invention includes a separate portion of the latching slide member resiliently urged to the latched position, and which independently permits latching of the device even when the opening combination is not set on the number-setting dials. The device also facilitates resetting of the secret combination, and provides the further option of selectively blocking the latching function.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1979Date of Patent: July 21, 1981Assignee: S. Patent number: 4267715Abstract: A ski pole shaft is cut into two parts and a lock mechanism is interconnected between the two parts. The lock mechanism is telescopically moveable between an open position in which a pair of shackle jaws carried by the two parts are spaced axially apart, and a close position in which the two jaws are close together. One or both of the jaws may be formed to include a cordwise extending groove in the side thereof which faces the other jaw. A security line which is normally housed within the ski pole is pulled out from the ski pole, until an abutment at its inner end meets a stop that prevents further movement. The security line is wrapped about ski equipment and a fixed support and then a portion of its free end is set within the groove and the upper and lower sections of the pole are moved telescopically together. A combination lock carried by one part of the lock mechanism is operated to lock the two sections of the ski pole together.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1979Date of Patent: May 19, 1981Inventor: Edward C. Patent number: 4155234Abstract: A combination lock for luggage, for example, which may be surface mounted. ial gears and cooperable gears have separate axes parallel to the thickness of the lock. In the on-combination position, hubs of the cooperable gears are aligned with openings in a slide that is moved relative to the hubs to permit an actuator to move a latch to its open position. The latch may also be moved to its open position by a hasp, even when the combination is scrambled. A shifter, which has an operator accessible at the face of the lock only when the hasp has been released by the latch, moves the slide and the cooperable gears as a unit, to disengage the cooperable gears from the dial gears for changing the combination.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1977Date of Patent: May 22, 1979Assignee: Presto Lock Company, Division of Walter Kidde & Company, Inc.Inventor: Lazlo Bako

Patent number: 4123923Abstract: A combination lock in which an actuator is movable in a predetermined dirion from a rest position to an unlocking position to unlock the lock and is further movable in the predetermined direction beyond the unlocking position to a combination-changing position to permit the combination to be changed. Movement of the actuator to the unlocking position can only occur when combination dials and sleeves coupled thereto are "on-combination". In the combination-changing position of the actuator, the sleeves are uncoupled from the dials. A stop mechanism is normally effective to prevent movement of the actuator to the combination-changing position and is rendered ineffective by depressing a plunger. The same stop mechanism holds the actuator at the combination-changing position during changing of the combination.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1977Date of Patent: November 7, 1978Assignee: Presto Lock Company, division of Walter Kiddie & Company, Inc.Inventor: Lazlo Bako

Patent number: 4114408Abstract: A lock comprising a bolt slidable into an operative position and from there rotatable into a locked position in which pins projecting from the bolt prevent it from sliding: locking members are rotatable about axes orthogonal to the axis of the bolt into positions where they interfere with rotation of the pins, and prevent the bolt from being rotated out of the locked position, unless the locking members are properly positioned about their axes.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1977Date of Patent: September 19, 1978Inventor: Victor L. Gee

Patent number: 4111014Abstract: A combination lock includes a plurality of setting wheels each having a sliding pin and each having a plurality of numerals marked on a peripheral surface. When the setting wheels are rotated to a predetermined combination of numerals, the sliding pins form a linear array. A manually operated plunger urges a cam surface against a first end of the linear array of sliding pins and transmits a force through the sliding pins causing a second end of the linear array to bear against a latch bar thus opening the combination lock.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1977Date of Patent: September 5, 1978Inventor: Norman Epstein
-
Patent number: 4100775Abstract: A combination lock which employs a plurality of dials and respective sleeve eans for each dial has a pivotally mounted bolt member related to the sleeve means so that the bolt member may be pivoted to respective "on combination" and "off combination" positions. A latch member cooperable with the bolt member is mounted for sliding movement in a direction which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the shaft upon which the dials and their respective sleeve means are mounted. Cooperable means are provided by the bolt member and the latch member to block movement of the latch member toward release position when the lock is "off combination". The latch member is provided with means to allow by-passing the bolt member and movement of the latch member to release position when the lock is "on combination". The combination lock is particularly suited for briefcases or the like.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 1977Date of Patent: July 18, 1978Assignee: Presto Lock Company, Division of Walter Kidde & Company, Inc.Inventor: Lazlo Bako

Patent number: 3952561Abstract: A multiple dial type combination lock in a luggage case handle stud employs an elongated, longitudinally movable puller formed to engage a cooperable hasp and having longitudinally spaced slots receiving dials. The dials, which are keyed for rotation with associated sleeve means by interfitting teeth, are cooperable with respective lugs on the puller for blocking movement of the puller from latching position when the dials are off combination. Each sleeve means has a missing tooth portion for receiving the respective lug on the puller when the dials are on combination, thereby permitting movement of the puller between latching and unlatching positions, the dials being shifted longitudinally with the puller during this motion. In the preferred embodiment, the opening combination may be set to a combination of one's own choice.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1974Date of Patent: April 27, 1976Assignee: Presto Lock CompanyInventor: Lazlo Bako
