    Abstract: A generally cylindrical body of a device such as a cam lock is provided with a snap-in mount that enables the body to be mounted from one side of and through mounting holes formed in support panels of distinctly different thicknesses. The body has a shoulder that faces in one direction toward one side of a support panel, and carries sets of movable arms that define engagement surfaces located at different distances from the shoulder that snap outwardly after being inserted through a panel mounting hole to face toward the opposite side of the support panel. The body can be mounted on panels having three different thicknesses if three sets of arms are provided that each define engagement surfaces located at a different distance from the shoulder. More panel thicknesses can be accommodated if one or more of the sets of arms define two or more sets of engagement surfaces each located at a distinctly different distance from the shoulder.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to a device to protect a deadbolt assembly from tampering. A deadbolt assembly comprising a deadbolt reciprocable along a longitudinal axis, and a deadbolt actuating mechanism having an axis transverse to that of the deadbolt, is protected from intrusion and tampering by a pair of protective shells which encircle the actuating mechanism. The shells are generally cylindrical and of like structure and opposite orientation. Each shell comprises a ring and a circumferentially extending protective structure which extends axially toward the ring of the other shell. A preferred protective structure comprises a plurality of projections, including an arcuate tongue. A gap or opening in the protective structure permits actuation and movement of the deadbolt without interference with the shells.

A cover plate covers the front of the lock cylinder and includes one or more arms extending through the face plate to the back thereof, where the arms are secured against the plate. By this arrangement, the cover plate is secured to the back of the face plate, preventing removal of the lock cylinder by prying. The frame secures the lock cylinder to the rear, preventing it from being dislodged by hammer blows. Against all such attacks, the full structural integrity of the face plate serves to keep the lock cylinder in place and the lock secure.
