  • Patent number: 5564296
Abstract: A kit for converting a key-in-knob lockset to a lever handle operated lock employs the existing cylindrical lock and its associated latch bolt. The conversion apparatus employs a lever handle having a non-circular shank portion which is received in, and thus drives, a resiliently biased coupling device which is interpositioned between the handle and a rose housing affixed to the door. The existing cylindrical lock is supported within the lever handle shank portion by a dummy bible member in such a manner as to prevent forces resulting from operation of the lever handle from damaging the cylindrical lock.

  • Patent number: 5555752
Abstract: A key actuated lock is mounted within a protective enclosure which has a double hinged panel cover that projects into a slot between the bottom panel of the protective enclosure and the bottom of the lock mounted within the protective enclosure when the double hinged panel cover is closed. Both the protective enclosure and the double hinged panel cover have apertures that align when the double hinged panel cover is closed. Actuation of the lock within the protective enclosure moves a locking bolt from a unlocked retracted position to a locked extended position that projects the locking bolt through the two aligned apertures, thereby holding the double hinged panel cover closed.

  • Patent number: 5481890
Abstract: A field conversion means to convert a knob-handle cylindrical lockset either with or without a key cylinder, installed in a door, to a lever-handle cylindrical lockset without changing any existing original key cylinder. The conversion means comprises an inside and an outside means, each including a lever-handle, a drive cartridge adaptor cylinder and a rosette or escutcheon containing a helical spring and a positive stop disk. The spring is biased to oppose droop of said lever-handle from a normal horizontal position and to oppose downward operating force, applied to said lever-handle and is increasingly biased when the lever is operated to oppose downward rotation of the lever. Stop means are provided in the rosette or escutcheon to limit the angular rotational travel of said lever-handle. Differently sized adapters are provided to permit the conversion of different sized cylindrical locks.

  • Patent number: 5479802
Abstract: A method of installing a combination lock deadbolt assembly includes the steps of providing a combination lock deadbolt assembly for mounting on a door surface in combination with a drill resistant hard plate. The hard plate, mounted on the outer door surface, includes legs extending through the door for attachment to the deadbolt assembly. A drill guide is provided having a tapered outer surface which corresponds to tapered openings in the combination lock deadbolt assembly. In use, the tapered drill guide is inserted into the openings in the deadbolt followed by insertion of a drill bit which drills holes through the door. After drilling each hole, the larger holes are drilled to facilitate attachment leg insertion into the door. The deadbolt can then be mounted to the door surface and to the drill resistant hard plate. A combination dial lock can then be mounted in the deadbolt assembly.

  • Patent number: 4751834
Abstract: A guard plate is used to protect a door from forced entry where the door is used in conjunction with a doorjamb. The door has a lock cylinder in it, and this cylinder is operatively interconnected with a reciprocal bolt for entering an opening in the doorjamb in a conventional manner. The guard plate has first and second interconnected sections. An opening is provided through the first section for accommodating the portion of the lock cylinder which normally is exposed on the surface of the door in which the cylinder is mounted. The first section of the plate then is secured to the door, with the lock cylinder aligned with the opening in the first section. The second section also has an opening through it, and the two sections are interconnected together with a bridge. The bridge causes the second section of the plate to overlie the doorjamb when the door is closed, and the bridge itself overlies the space between the door and the doorjamb when the door is in its closed position.
