Histogram Distribution Patents (Class 702/180)
  • Publication number: 20140358477
Abstract: A measuring device is used to increase a contrast of a plurality of measured values displayed in a spectrogram or spectral histogram and contains a data-acquisition unit, a computer unit and a statistic unit. The data-acquisition unit is embodied to detect a plurality of measured values to be displayed. The statistic unit is embodied to calculate a distribution which contains the frequency of occurrence for every level value of the measured values to be displayed. The computer unit is embodied to specify a dynamic range, over which the contrast extends. In this context, a specified proportion of the level values which image the noise are not used for the specification of the dynamic range.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices are provided to determine an accurate neutron-gamma density (NGD) measurement for a broad range of formations, including low-hydrogen-index or low-porosity formations and formations with heavy elements. For example, such an NGD measurement may be obtained by emitting neutrons into a formation such that some of the neutrons inelastically scatter off elements of the formation and generate inelastic gamma rays. The neutrons and inelastic gamma rays that return to the downhole tool may be detected. Some characteristics of certain formations are believed to affect the fast neutron transport of the formations. Thus, if a formation has one or more of such characteristics, a correction may be applied to the count rate of neutrons, the count rate of inelastic gamma rays, or the neutron transport correction function, upon which the neutron-gamma density (NGD) may be determined.

Abstract: A chip with a built-in self-test (BIST) component capable of testing the linearity of an ADC is described herein. The BIST component uses hardware registers to facilitate a sliding histogram technique to save space on the chip. A subset of detected digital codes are analyzed, and DNL and INL calculations are performed by a controller to determine whether any of the digital codes in the subset exceed maximum or minimum DNL and INL thresholds. New digital codes being detected by the ADC are added to the subset as lower-value digital codes are pushed out of the subset, maintaining the same number of digital codes being analyzed as the subset moves from lower codes detected during lower voltages to higher codes detected at higher voltages. A synchronizer and pointer ensure that the subset moves through the digital codes at the same rate as the analog input ramp source.

Abstract: A real-time spectrum analyzer for measuring time domain data sampled from an input signal includes a processing unit and a density histogram memory unit. The processing unit includes an FFT engine, a frequency mask detector and a frequency mask gate. The FFT engine performs FFTs on the sampled time domain data to provide FFT spectra, each FFT spectrum including multiple FFT points. The frequency mask detector determines whether each FFT point in each spectrum meets a trigger condition, and generates gate control signals corresponding to the FFT spectra based on the determinations. The frequency mask gate receives the FFT spectra and the gate control signals, and outputs only select FFT spectra that contain at least one FFT point that meets the trigger condition in response to the corresponding gate control signal. The density histogram memory unit stores the select FFT spectra for generating in a density histogram.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for analyzing the output signal of a silicon drift detector (SDD). A SDD is used for detecting X-rays emitted by a sample as a result of impinging radiation. The signal of a SDD comprises a number of randomly spaced steps, in which the step height is a function of the energy of the detected X-ray photon. The variance in step height is a function of the averaging time that can be used to determine the plateau between steps: averaging over a short interval results in more uncertainty of the plateau value than a long interval. By according a weight factor, a function of the variance such that a step with low variance (high reliability) is associated with a larger weight factor than a step with high variance (low reliability), measurement values with a low variance are emphasized. This results in better resolved spectra.

Abstract: A “density trace” according to an embodiment of the present invention is formed by measuring the density of each column of a frequency domain bitmap above a user-specified “amplitude threshold.” The density of each column equals the sum of the densities of all of the pixels in the column that are above the amplitude threshold divided by the sum of the densities of all of the pixels in the column. Abstract: Methods and apparatus for relative pitch tracking of multiple arbitrary sounds. A probabilistic method for pitch tracking may be implemented as or in a pitch tracking module. A constant-Q transform of an input signal may be decomposed to estimate one or more kernel distributions and one or more impulse distributions. Each kernel distribution represents a spectrum of a particular source, and each impulse distribution represents a relative pitch track for a particular source. The decomposition of the constant-Q transform may be performed according to shift-invariant probabilistic latent component analysis, and may include applying an expectation maximization algorithm to estimate the kernel distributions and the impulse distributions. When decomposing, a prior, e.g. a sliding-Gaussian Dirichlet prior or an entropic prior, and/or a temporal continuity constraint may be imposed on each impulse distribution.

Abstract: A correlation image detector is provided that co-registers sonar images by finding peaks in correlation images. To obtain the peaks, the mean of the absolute values of the correlation coefficients in the correlation image is found and the Rayleigh parameter is determined from the mean. Based on the Rayleigh parameter, an appropriate threshold can be determined using a desired probability of false detection. The threshold can be chosen such that the probability of a single false detection over the expected life of the mission for which correlation detection is being performed is extremely low, e.g., one in a million. The peak value in the image is determined and a correlation is considered detected when the peak value is greater than the product of the threshold and the Rayleigh parameter. If a detection occurs, the correlation image detector returns the transformation that co-registers the two images.

Abstract: Histograms formed based on samples of a population, such as histograms created from random page-level samples of a data store, are intelligently scaled to histograms estimating distribution of the entire population of the data store. As an optional optimization, where a threshold number of duplicate samples are observed during page-level sampling, the number of distinct values in the overall population data is presumed to be the number of distinct values in the sample data. Also, during estimation of distinct values of an overall population, a “Chao” estimator can optionally be utilized as a lower bound of the estimate. The resulting estimate is then used when scaling, which can take domain knowledge of the data being scaled into account in order to prevent scaled estimates from exceeding the limits of the domain.

Abstract: The adaptive contrast enhancer uses an adaptive histogram equalization-based approach to improve contrast in a video signal. For each video frame, the histogram of the pixel luminance values is calculated. The calculated histogram is divided into three regions that are equalized independently of the other. The equalized values are averaged with the original pixel values with a weighting factor that depends on the shape of the histogram. The weighting factors can be also chosen differently for the three regions to enhance the darker regions more than the brighter ones. The statistics calculated from one frame are used to enhance the next frame such that frame buffers are not required. Many of the calculations are done in the inactive time between two frames.

Abstract: A method maintains a multidimensional histogram for a data array having a data array size, the method having a processing time substantially less than proportional to the data array size. The method involves receiving a data update that indicates a change to data in the data array; with the data update, updating an intermediate data structure having a size substantially smaller than the data array size, so that the updated intermediate data structure remains an at-least-approximate representation of the data in the data array as changed by the data update; collecting a number of substantially-largest-coefficient linear combinations of then-current data, the number being small compared with the data array size; and forming the multidimensional histogram as a histogram to an intermediate data array re synthesized from the collected linear combinations.

  • Patent number: 8224622
Abstract: The present invention relates to an iterative method and an apparatus for distribution-independent detection of intermediate outliers and outliers in the distribution tail of streamed data. A considerable sequence of streamed data is sequentially read and subsequently assigned to matching bins. The bins are adaptively allocated when, where and if they are needed. Each bin range expands concurrently with the distribution range of the accumulating items assigned to the bin, adding a margin. For every N'th read item, overlapping or adjoining bins are merged, whereupon the bins are assessed for insider preclusion. Information regarding outliers is extracted from the remaining outlier bins when the entire data sequence has been processed.
