  • Patent number: 9955901
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and devices for measuring a state of anesthesia in a noninvasive manner. Optical techniques may be used to measure changes in a functional near-infrared (fNIR) signal, where the fNIR signal is received in response to directing wavelengths of light in a near-infrared range on a patient. The optical density change may be used to obtain a change in deoxyhemoglobin (deoxy-Hb) concentration and/or a change in an oxyhemoglobin concentration (oxy-Hb). The changes in the deoxy-Hb and/or the oxy-Hb may then be compared to determine a state of anesthesia. The effect of artifacts (e.g., strong surgery room lighting, patient-table tilting, patient intubation/extubation) on the fNIR signal may be removed using a noise removal algorithm. In selecting the noise removal algorithm, a switching technique may be used to select the component analysis algorithm, such as a principal component analysis (PCA), an independent component analysis (ICA), or the like.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system that tracks and compensates for input signal noise at a receiver of a data communication channel. In particular embodiments, the receiver of the data communication link receives an input signal which comprises two signal levels. Next, for each of the two signal levels, the system generates an error signal by comparing the input signal value of the signal level with an expected signal value for the signal level. The system then updates a threshold signal value based on at least one of the two error signals associated with the two signal levels. Finally, the system compensates for input signal noise in the received input signal using the updated threshold signal value.

  • Patent number: 8711249
Abstract: An image denoising system and method of implementing the image denoising system is described herein. Noise is decomposed within each channel into frequency bands, and sub-band noise is propagated. Denoising is then able to occur at any node in a camera pipeline after accurately predicting noise that is signal level-dependent, frequency dependent and has inter-channel correlation. A methodology is included for estimating image noise in each color channel at a sensor output based on average image level and camera noise parameters. A scheme is implemented for detecting a peak-white image level for each color channel and predicting image level values for representative colors. Based on a noise model and camera parameters, noise levels are predicted for each color channel for each color patch and these noise levels are propagated to the denoising node. A three dimentional LUT correlates signal level to noise level. Then, a denoising threshold is adaptively controlled.

  • Patent number: 8265902
Abstract: A circuit measures a time interval between a first event and a second event. One or more activity inputs receive a respective signal indicating the first and second events. For each activity input, a respective high-speed serial receiver includes a sampling circuit and a deserializer. The sampling circuit generates sample bits from sampling the respective signal at active edges of a clock signal. The deserializer converts the sample bits into a sequence of parallel data words. The sample bits undergo a first change in response to the first event and a second change in response to the second event. An arithmetic circuit receives the sequence of parallel data words from the respective high-speed serial receiver. The arithmetic circuit determines a number of the sample bits between the first and second changes in the sequence of parallel data words. The number measures the time interval between the first and second events.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for determining power source failure. A sampling module samples an alternating current power waveform as input to a power supply, at a sampling frequency which is a multiple of a predetermined frequency, to obtain a sampled amplitude at a known point within the predetermined period. A comparison module compares the sampled amplitude to a stored threshold amplitude to obtain a comparison result, corresponding to the known point. An accumulation module accumulates most recent comparison results. A warning module asserts an early power off warning signal if a predetermined number of the most recent comparison results each indicate that the sampled amplitude is smaller in absolute value than the stored threshold amplitude.

  • Patent number: 8175830
Abstract: A method and system for estimating a magnitude of extremely rare events upon receiving a complete data sample and a specific exceedance probability are described. A distribution is chosen for a complete data sample. An optimal subsample fitted to the distribution is obtained. The optimal subsample is a largest acceptable subsample. A subsample is considered as an acceptable subsample when a goodness-of-fit test on the subsample is satisfactory (i.e., higher than a predetermined threshold). In addition, if a tail measure of an acceptable subsample lies outside a confidence interval of any smaller acceptable subsample, the acceptable subsample is considered as an unacceptable. Based on the optimal subsample and an inputted exceedance probability, a quantile estimate is computed, e.g., by executing an inverse of a cumulative distribution function of generalized Pareto distribution.

  • Patent number: 8165843
Abstract: Time-course data that has been obtained by measuring, in time series, a change in the density of a sample material by a color reaction thereof is input. A regression curve generation unit generates a regression curve that approximates the time-course data. A standard deviation obtainment unit obtains the value of a standard deviation representing the distribution of the approximation error of the regression curve with respect to the time-course data. A standard deviation comparison judgment unit compares the value of the standard deviation and a predetermined threshold value that is stored in a standard deviation storage unit with each other. When the value of the standard deviation is greater than the threshold value, the standard deviation comparison judgment unit judges that a position shift of the sample material with respect to a sample table is present and outputs the result of the judgment.
