  • Patent number: 10534018
Abstract: A method and apparatus for resolving time base-generated errors from sampling scope-based measurements. Mutually synchronized repetitive waveform-to-be-analyzed signals (WAS) and repetitive sinusoidal reference signals (RS) are respectively applied to a first channel and a second channel of a sampling scope. A time base generator applies a sampling signal to the first and second channels. An average sine wave period Tav for k samples of RS is determined, followed by determination of phase error ?k for each of the k samples, corresponding to phase differences between an ideal sine wave signal and the applied reference sinusoidal signal. Time base error values dk for k samples are calculated from dk=?k*Tav/2?. Error values dk correct time base errors in the sampling signal, and the WAS is re-sampled at sampling times adjusted by dk.

Abstract: This disclosure relates generally to test and measurement instruments structured to detect that a series of events occurred, and structured to generate a trigger signal in response to detecting that a final event in the series of events occurred. The trigger may be generated based on a timeout signal, or based on another event, trigger, or signal. Stored data in the acquisition memory may be marked relative to the detection of the final event. An external forced timeout signal may control which in a series of events is marked as a final event. The triggering on final event may be enabled after another trigger is satisfied, and may be used as one of many different types of triggers.

  • Patent number: 8949072
Abstract: A method of obtaining a consistent evaluation of the state of the system which has been monitored by measurement of multiple parameters of that system. The multiple parameters are used to calculate a single dimensional value based on the distance between the current state and normal states of the system using a Parzen Windows probability function. Consistent single dimensional values regardless of the dimensionality of the original data set can be obtained by finding a relationship between the single dimensional value and the probability of status of the system. Different relationships are obtained for different dimensionalities of data sets. Sensor malfunction can also be detected by testing the probability of the state implied by measuring all of the available parameters against the probability of the state implied by ignoring different individual ones of the parameters. A significant disparity in the two probabilities indicate possible sensor malfunction.

Abstract: Aspects of the invention include an equivalent-time sampling oscilloscope that receives a carrier signal, the carrier signal after it has been modulated with a repeating data pattern, and a pattern trigger signal that is synchronous with the data pattern. The carrier signal and the modulation are asynchronous, that is, they are not phase-locked in any way. The oscilloscope simultaneously samples the modulated carrier signal and quadrature phases of the unmodulated carrier signal at a plurality of timebase delays relative to the pattern trigger signal, and a plurality of times at each timebase delay. After collecting this information, the oscilloscope uses the quadrature samples to calculate phases of the unmodulated carrier signal that correspond to the samples of the modulated carrier signal.

Abstract: A testing system includes a computer, a connection cord, and a number of oscillographs. The each oscillograph has a GPIB port. The computer has a USB port. The connection cord has a USB connector for connection with the USB port and a GPIB connector for selectively connecting to a GPIB port of one of the oscillographs. The computer includes an oscillograph model displaying module, an oscillograph driving module, a storage module, and a testing interface module. The oscillograph model displaying module displays a number of oscillograph models for a user to select. The oscillograph driving module loads an oscillograph driver corresponding to the selected oscillograph model. The storage module stores a plurality of codes associated with a number of testing functions for different oscillographs. The testing interface module transmits the codes to the oscillograph, thereby driving the oscillograph to perform the associated testing functions to test a device.

Abstract: An output signal is generated from a received input data stream representing a sequence of digital data values. For each group of successive data values in the sequence of data values, a respective waveform pattern is assigned in dependence of the data content of the respective group of successive data values. The output signal is generated by generating the assigned respective waveform patterns corresponding to the input data stream.

Abstract: Systems, methods and apparatus are described for testing a data connection provided over a power supply line. A testing apparatus is coupled to a socket of the power supply line. The AC power supply line communicatively couples the testing apparatus to a communication device or another testing apparatus. The testing apparatus identifies the signal strengths of signals received by the testing apparatus and identifies the signal strengths of signals received by the communication device. The testing apparatus outputs an indicator of the first signal strength and the second signal strength to a user and this information may be utilized to detect noise or other problems in the data connection provided over the AC power supply line.

  • Publication number: 20130245977
Abstract: A test and measurement instrument and method for providing post-acquisition trigger control and presentation of associated waveforms on a display. An electrical signal under test is sampled and digitized, and stored in an acquisition memory as a data record. A display device draws a waveform associated with the signal under test. After the acquisition of the digital samples is stopped, a user selects trigger criteria using trigger controls such as a trigger level control. A trigger circuit detects a post-acquisition trigger event in the data record based on the trigger criteria causing an automatic adjustment of the waveform to conform to a time of the post-acquisition trigger event. One or more configurable trigger controls can be used to adjust a display of post-acquisition trigger events and waveforms. Upon resumption of the live-acquisition of data, the live waveform conforms to the newly selected trigger criteria as previewed during the post-acquisition mode.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides an acquisition system for oscilloscopes having n input channels. The acquisition system comprises n A/D converters (2.1, 2.2, . . . , 2.n) with each of the n A/D converters receiving a signal under test from one of n channels and digitizing the received signal into digital samples; an acquisition memory for storing the digitized samples from the n A/D converters; and a memory allocation processor for dynamically allocating memory lengths (or memory depths) for the selected n input channels within an acquisition memory based on the user setting from the oscilloscope. To efficiently use the acquisition memory, the acquisition system does not allocate any memory areas for the input channels that are not selected. In addition, the acquisition system can set up sampling rates for the n input channels based on the frequencies of the signals under test received from the n input channels.

  • Patent number: 8527214
Abstract: A mechanical seal monitoring system and method that measure the wear of seal faces of a mechanical seal where the mechanical seal seals a rotating machine portion from another portion of the machine. The system preferably uses a wear probe movable relative to a rotating seal component so that the wear probe can contact the rotating component. The wear of the seal is preferably determined by the relative movement that is required for the wear probe to contact the rotating component. Preferably, stress waves induced by the rubbing between the probe and the rotating component are detected by a stress-wave sensor, processed by a signal processor, and either displayed to the user numerically or reported to a monitoring computer. A signal intensity comparison method is preferably used to make the detection process insensitive to background noise generated by sources other than the contact of the wear probe and the rotating component.

Abstract: A user configured measurement display system and method for a non-destructive testing device and instrument (NDT/NDI) with high input data rate is disclosed. The system and the method provide the means for NDT/NDI instruments display measurement values that satisfies user designated measurement criterion occurring during any measurement time intervals (MTIs). The present disclosure overcomes the shortcomings of conventional ways of picking and displaying measurement values at fixed MTIs, by which the values truly satisfying the measurement criterion that occurs at random MTIs (other than scheduled MTIs) are often skipped.
