  • Patent number: 9488682
Abstract: A method determines power consumption of a load in a feeder section of an ungrounded power distribution system. Borders of the feeder section are defined by an importing device connecting the feeder section to an upstream feeder section, and by at least one exporting device connecting the feeder section with a downstream feeder section. A power consumption of each load is represented as a product of a scaling factor and a base power defined by a load profile of the load. A power flow of the feeder section is solved using the power consumptions of the loads to produce an active power for each phase of the importing device. A target active power for each phase of the importing device is determined using measurements at the importing device, and the scaling factors are updated based on a difference between the active power and the target active power.

  • Patent number: 9342136
Abstract: Embodiments of the present inventive concept relate to systems and methods for dynamically allocating and/or redistributing thermal budget to each processor from a total processor thermal budget based on the workload of each processor. In this manner, the processor(s) having a higher workload can receive a higher thermal budget. The allocation can be dynamically adjusted over time. The individual and overall processor performance increases while efficiently allocating the total thermal budget. By dynamically sharing the total thermal budget of the system, the performance of the system as a whole is increased, thereby lowering, for example, the total cost of ownership (TCO) of datacenters.

Abstract: Techniques for optimizing a distribution circuit (e.g., electric power grid) are described. Primary wiring of a distribution circuit may comprise a plurality of unique primary paths, from a source to an end (a transformer). Each primary path may include a plurality of primary segments, and each primary segment may be in one or more primary paths. A maximum voltage drop on any primary segment may be selected as a smallest of maximum allowed voltage drops across that segment in each of the primary paths. Because the voltage drop across each primary path must be less than a prescribed maximum, the sum of the voltage drops across each primary segment in that primary path is less than the prescribed maximum. The prescribed maximum may be adhered to if each primary segment is constructed of a conductor gauge chosen not to exceed the maximum voltage drop for that segment.

Abstract: A method of forecasting a resource load for consumption at a site, e.g., an electrical load of a site. The method includes receiving historical load data and historical ambient condition data that are time series data pertaining to a site and generating additional data from the received data. The method includes building a best sub-model for each of multiple forecast intervals. The building includes clustering in parallel training portions of the historical load data and the additional data, training possible sub-models using the clustered training portions, verifying forecasted loads output from the possible sub-models against verification portions of the historical load data and the additional data, and determining a first subset of parameters for the best sub-model based upon accuracy of the forecasted loads. The method includes forecasting a resource load at the site for each of the forecast intervals using an ensemble of the best sub-models.

Abstract: An approach is provided in which a power design verification system retrieves a power intent data corresponding to a power design, which identifies the power design's power modes and power mode transition conditions. The power design verification system selects one of the power mode transition conditions, which identifies input signals that invoke a transition from a first power mode to a second power mode. In turn, the power design verification system generates simulation stimuli based upon the identified input signals and simulates the power design utilizing the generated simulation stimuli accordingly.

  • Patent number: 8989909
Abstract: A multi-dimensional energy control system is provided with an energy management software application that organizes the consumption of energy by a device as an n-dimensional energy space, where n is an integer greater than 2, and each axis in the energy space represents an energy consumption characteristic. The energy management application generates instructions for a device in response to calculating a compromise operating point in the energy space. A user interface (UI) connected to the energy management application has a display to receive a graphical representation of the energy space and compromise operating point, and an input to receive user commands for moving the represented compromise operating point in the represented energy space. The energy management application calculates the compromise operating point in the energy space to match the displayed compromise operating point.

Abstract: A system having a function block execution framework. Function blocks may be for use in a control system design. These blocks may be selected from a library of a function block engine. Selected function blocks may be executed for operational purposes. They may be continuously executed by a processor to maintain operational status. However, since a function block engine and a resulting system of function blocks may be operated with battery power, executions of function blocks may be reduced by scheduling the executions of function blocks to times only when they are needed. That means that the processor would not necessarily have to operate continuously to maintain continual execution of the function blocks and thus could significantly reduce consumption of battery power.
