Abstract: Methods and apparatus for cataloguing items such as maps and geospatial data sets store in a database information defining a geospatial region corresponding to each item and a size characteristic of the geospatial area. The database may be queried to identify items of interest by intersecting a search seed comprising one or more geospatial points lines or areas with the areas corresponding to the items. A result set containing items produced by a query may be ordered at least in part according to the size characteristics. In some embodiments the size characteristics comprise square roots of the areas of the geospatial regions.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide a system and method for prerendering of search result pages. A search engine may process search queries received from a client. The search engine may determine one or more search results in response to the search query. One or more of the search results may be associated with prerender instructions, such that when the search results are received by the client, the client prerenders the search results associated with the prerender instructions. Prerender instructions may be associated with the search results in various manners, including ranking the search results based on relevance, or ranking the search results based on the likelihood of selection. Metrics and analytical data may be collected from the client to improve the search result prerendering process.

Abstract: A search request received at a computer of a search support system is processed by analyzing the received search request to identify request parameters and connecting to a system index of the search support system that is referenced in the request parameters. An external result provider (ERP) process is initiated that establishes communication between the search support system and a data source external to the search support system, for a virtual index referenced in the request parameters. Thus, the ERP process provides an interface between the search support system and external data sources, such as by third parties. The ERP process can operate in a streaming mode (providing real-time search results with minimal processing) and/or a reporting mode (providing results with a greater delay and processing extent) and can switch between modes. The search request results are received from the connected system indexes and the referenced virtual indexes.

Abstract: Techniques for data store list generation and management are provided. A user supplies criteria for a list via a graphical user interface tool. The criteria are used to generate a query, and the query when executed against a data store produces results representing the list. The list may then be used for a variety of purposes.

Abstract: An event setting section sets calendars or accounts based on operation contents from an operation input receiving unit, and stores a list of the set calendars or accounts in a schedule database. In addition, the event setting section sets events in a calendar based on operation contents from the operation input receiving unit, and stores a list of the set events in the schedule database. An image correlation section stores image data supplied from an image input unit in an image database, and correlates (shares) the image data with the event list stored in the schedule database based on photographing information (photographing time, camera ID, and the like) accompanied by the image data.

Abstract: Upon receipt of a document request, a client assistant examines its cache for the document. If not successful, a server searches for the requested document in its cache. If the server copy is still not fresh or not found, the server seeks the document from its host. If the host cannot provide the copy, the server seeks it from a document repository. Certain documents are identified from the document repository as being fresh or stable. Information about each of these identified documents is transmitted to the server which inserts entries into an index if the index does not already contain an entry for the document. If and when this particular document is requested, the document will not be present in the server, however the server will contain an entry directing the server to obtain the document from the document repository rather than the document's web host.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method performed in a computer system for aiding the assessment of an influence of a user in or interacting with a communication system by applying social network analysis, SNA, functions. The method comprises: obtaining two or more SNA metrics for each user of a first number of users, each SNA metric being determined by a respective SNA function; calculating a weight parameter for each one of the SNA metrics using a machine learning method, the weight parameters indicating a combination of the SNA metrics for use in the assessment of the influence of the user; and applying the estimated weight parameters to SNA metrics of a second number of users to assess a ranking in accordance with influence of users in the second number of users. The invention also relates to a computer system, computer programs, and computer program products.

Abstract: An apparatus, method, system, and computer-readable medium are provided for maintaining contact information associated with a contact. In some embodiments a request associated with a contact may be received. Contact information may be obtained from one or more external or internal sources. One or more confidence scores may be generated for the obtained contact information and for one or more values received with the request. Based on the confidence score(s), one or more values associated with the contact may be incorporated in one or more data stores. In some embodiments, suggestions for contact related information may be generated. Responses to the suggestions may be used to update the generated confidence score(s).

Abstract: A computerized system and method for analyzing color consistency on automotive parts and for providing feedback on painting processes occurring in an assembly plant. The system and method facilitates data collection and analysis at numerous points during the assembly paint processes and the identification of possible adjustments so that parts are painted within a specified tolerance. Body and bumper parts are measured during an inspection process. Measurement and colorimetric data is stored in association with an identifier for the body part or bumper. Measurements relate to equipment and paint mix variables as well as environmental variables that influence the paint results. A software application facilitates analysis of the data and troubleshooting possible causes for color discrepancies. As the color trends away from a specified standard, paint process, including environmental, changes are made, prior to the painting of parts in the bumper or body so that color mismatches are prevented.

Abstract: A system and method of providing information to improve efficiency of human searchers obtaining information on behalf of users is described. A first responder to a request is provided with specialized tools for responding to a request. An initial evaluation of a query may be used to determine the responder and the type of tools which will be provided initially. A toolset which allows rapid responses based on data resources, common queries, and contextual information of a user, a request, partially matching queries and previous responses to previous queries is used to improve the probability that a first responder may provide a suitable response to a query.

Abstract: Generating ranked search results includes receiving a plurality of matching information items that match a search request, ranking at least some of the plurality of matching information items using a linear ranking model that linearly combines a first plurality of feature values to obtain a first set of ranked results, ranking at least some of the first set of ranked results using a nonlinear ranking model that nonlinearly combines a second plurality of feature values to obtain a second set of ranked results, and provide a search response based on the second set of ranked results.

Abstract: Systems and methods for determining the present status of at least one occupancy of one or more individuals based on one or more occupancy data sources are described. The techniques include obtaining the at least one occupancy of said one or more individuals from said one or more sources; computing a score of said at least one occupancy by a computer processor based on the currency and the relative trustworthiness of said one or more sources; and determining said present status of said at least one occupancy based on said computed score. The techniques can also include presenting the at least one occupancy in a user readable format.

Abstract: A mechanism is provided for sharing resources among logical partitions in a logical partitioned data processing system and for managing the changes to resources in such a way that the sharing operating systems are able to handle the various transitions in a graceful manner. Four hypervisor functions plus a specific return code manage the granting of access of resources owned by one partition to another (client) partition, accepting of granted resources by client partitions, returning of granted resources by client partitions, and rescinding of access by the owning partition. These four hypervisor functions are invoked either explicitly by the owning and client partitions or automatically by the hypervisor in response to partition termination. The hypervisor functions provide the needed infrastructure to manage the sharing of logical resources among partitions.

Abstract: A computerized method and apparatus for distinguishing between false positive read events and true positive events of reading a file, comprising determining an amount of date read from the file, in case the amount of data exceeds a threshold generating a true positive read event, otherwise generating a false positive read event in case a decision condition is met, and an apparatus to carry out the same.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide an approach for creating, evolving and using a weighted semantic graph to manage and potentially identify certain information assets within an enterprise. The semantic graph may be generated by monitoring users navigating through search results which provide a set of information assets responsive to a search query. By recording the navigation path taken by many users, relationships between information assets may be identified. Further, once generated, the semantic graph may be used to present users with in indication of related information assets as part of the search results. Further still, the semantic graph may also be used to identify information assert “hubs” as well as information assets that may provide low utility to individuals within the enterprise.

Abstract: A method and system for predicting future trends of terms taxonomies of users generated content. The method comprises crawling one or more sources of users generated content to collect phrases mentioned by users of the one or more data sources; periodically analyzing one or more term taxonomies to determine at least a trend of at least a non-sentiment phrase with respect of a plurality of sentiment phrases, wherein a term taxonomy is an association between a non-sentiment phrase and a sentiment phrase, the non-sentiment and sentiment phrases are included in the collected phrases; and generating a prediction of future behavior of the at least trend with respect of the one or more term taxonomies.

Abstract: A method and system for searching a wide area network that enables users to find the information they seek more quickly and more easily than prior art search engines are disclosed. Aspects of this disclosure include a process for making use of a user's prior search queries for query definition; a process for similarly making use of prior search queries by other users; a process for expanding and clarifying the meaning of queries; a process for including paid and other preferred results in an overall query result; and a process for using user evaluation data from previous search query results to identify results that should be included or removed from a current result.

Abstract: In accordance with embodiments, there are provided techniques for utilizing computational resources of a multi-tenant on-demand database system. These techniques for utilizing computational resources of a multi-tenant on-demand database system may enable embodiments to provide great flexibility to a tenant of the architecture to perform desired functions on content of the database without unduly consuming the resources of the system.

Abstract: An improved technique involves converting facts from multiple fact sources to a common data format. Along these lines, for each fact source having a source-specific format, a KBA system provides an adaptor that converts incoming facts in the source-specific format to the common data format prior to generating questions. The KBA system stores the facts in the common format in a database for subsequent access. In response to an authorization request, the KBA system then builds questions based on the facts from multiple sources in the common data format stored in the database.

Abstract: A system includes a request analyzer configured to receive a plurality of database requests and classify the plurality of database requests as transaction requester or non-transaction requests, and further configured to route the transaction requests to a transaction server for application against a transaction database, including write access to an identified portion thereof, and to route the non-transaction requests to a non-transaction server to thereby read data obtained from a non-transaction database. The system also includes an update manager configured to update the non-transaction database, based on the application of the transaction requests against the transaction database.

A method includes performing a scan of one or more error logs to identify a source of data in response to an attempt to access the data, determining whether an amount of time to complete the scan will exceed a threshold value, and generating a notice that the error record will be deferred based on the determination. Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for efficiently identifying images, videos, audio files or documents relevant to a user using binary search trees in attribute space for guiding relevance feedback. A binary tree is constructed for each relative attribute of interest. A “pivot exemplar” (at a node of the binary tree) is set for each relative attribute's binary tree as corresponding to the database image, video, audio file or document with a median relative attribute value among that subtree's child examples. A pivot exemplar out of the available current pivot exemplars that has the highest expected information gain is selected to be provided to the user. Comparative attribute feedback is then received from the user regarding whether a degree of the attribute in the user's target image, video, audio file or document is more, less or equal with the attribute displayed in the selected pivot exemplar.

Abstract: Methods and systems for home directory management are described. In one embodiment, a computing system receives a user login request, and in response, bind mounts a temporary directory on a local file system of the computing system. The temporary directory does not require authentication. The computing system prompts the user for user credentials and authenticate the user using the user credentials. In response to a successful authentication, the computing system mounts a non-native directory in the temporary directory.

Abstract: System and method for enforcing role membership removal requirements are described. In one embodiment, the method includes, responsive to receipt of a removal request, performing a role evaluation of the removal request to generate a policy request; performing a policy evaluation of the policy request; generating a policy response in accordance with the policy evaluation; and enforcing the policy response.

The method includes: receiving a primary keyword inputted by a user and a request for retrieving keywords related to the primary keyword; recording a frequency of the retrieving request corresponding to the primary keyword; selecting a candidate group of related keywords based on the frequency from the groups of related keywords corresponding to the primary keyword; and displaying the related keywords in the candidate group of related keywords. The system includes: an interface unit, a recording unit, an acquiring unit and a displaying unit. The disclosed method and system retrieve different groups of related keywords based on the frequency of the request for retrieving keywords related to a certain primary keyword, and display the retrieved related keywords in a rotating manner and allow a user to obtain the related keywords in an easier and more complete way.

Abstract: A first directory server computer system subscribes to update data published by directory servers via an advanced message queuing protocol (AMQP) server. The first directory server receives update data that indicates an update for a LDAP-based database associated with the first directory server. When the received update data is from the AMQP server, the first directory server converts the received update data into an LDAP data format and updates the LDAP-based database using the LDAP formatted update data. When the received update data is not from the AMQP server, the first directory server updates the LDAP-based database using the received update data, converts the received update data into a wire level data format, and publishes the wire level formatted update data to the AMQP server. The AMQP server allows a second directory server that subscribes to the AMQP server to obtain data representing the update.

Abstract: Techniques for generating hash values for instances of distinct data values. In the techniques, each distinct data value is mapped to hash value generation information which describes how to generate a unique hash value for instances of the distinct data value. The hash value generation information for a distinct data value is then used to generate the hash value for an instance of the distinct data value. The hash value generation information may indicate whether a collision has occurred in generating the hash values for instances of the distinct data values and if so, how the collision is to be resolved. The techniques are employed to normalize RDF triples by generating the UIDS employed in the normalization from the triples' lexical values.

In various embodiments, a system includes modules to receive note data and bind notes to business object instances. In various embodiments, the system saves notes to a database via a dedicated database connection in a dedicated transaction. In various embodiments, a user interface is provided for creating and modifying notes on business content. In various embodiments, a method for creating notes in a user interface and attaching the notes to one or more positions in a user interface screen displaying business content in an enterprise information system is presented.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for ranking search-results. During operation, the system receives a query, wherein the query includes one or more terms. The system subsequently searches a dataset using the one or more terms to obtain search-results. Next, the system receives an attribute-identifier, which identifies an attribute for the obtained search-results. Then, for each search-result, the system calculates a combined score based on an attribute-value for the identified attribute, and a relevance-score for the search-result. The system then ranks the search-results based on combined scores associated with the search-results. Finally, the system presents the ranked search-results to a user.

Abstract: An illustrative data access management system includes a plurality of data storage devices and at least one data manager device configured to arrange information stored by the data storage devices. The data manager device segments compressive measurements of data into a plurality of subsets. The data manager device provides at least a first one of the subsets to a first one of the data storage devices and at least a second one of the subsets to a second one of the data storage devices. One of the data storage devices may be selected, based on at least one criterion, for providing a user access to the at least one subset stored by the selected data storage device.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium for detecting change in rate of input reception. In one aspect, a series of keystrokes input by a user is received. A baseline time interval is determined for the user. A time interval between receiving a particular keystroke and receiving a preceding keystroke is determined. It is determined that the time interval exceeds the baseline time interval by a predetermined amount. Then, characters that correspond to one or more of the keystrokes, are transmitted to a search engine.

Abstract: A method of generating a configuration file is disclosed. According to an embodiment of the invention, the configuration file specifies how an object of a plurality of objects is to be monitored by an agent of an operational management system. The method comprises the step of providing a data file comprising a plurality of parameter settings for a plurality of parameters used to monitor the plurality of objects of the operational management system. The method in accordance with the invention further comprises the step of retrieving a subset of parameter settings from the plurality of parameter settings, wherein the retrieved subset of parameter settings provides specifications for a subset of parameters of the plurality of parameters, wherein the subset of parameters is used to monitor the object.

Abstract: A hierarchical security model for networked computer users is described. Files and resources are controlled or created by users within the network. Each user within the network has an account that is managed by a network administrator. The account specifies the user identifier and password. Users are grouped into organizations depending upon function or other organizational parameter. The groups within the network are organized hierarchically in terms of access and control privileges. Users within a higher level group may exercise access and control privileges over files or resources owned by users in a lower level group. The account for each user further specifies the group that the owner belongs to and an identifier for any higher level groups that have access privileges over the user's group. All users within a group inherit the rights and restrictions of the group.

Abstract: A server device receives a user request and retrieves, based on the user request, a list of popular topics, a generic ranking score for each topic in the list of popular topics, and a topic profile for a first topic in the list of popular topics. The server device identifies a user profile for the user and determines a personalization score for the first topic in the list of popular topics, where the personalization score for the first topic is based on one or more similarities between the user profile and the topic profile for the first topic. The server device determines a revised ranking score for the first topic in the list of popular topics based on the personalization score and the generic ranking score for the first topic; and ranks the topics in the list of popular topics, using the revised ranking score for the first topic.

Abstract: A system, computer-implemented method, and a computer-readable storage medium for a data graph traversal are provided. The input parameters for traversing the data graph are received. The data graph having a set of vertices and a set of edges are stored in a column based format in a memory cache of a computer device based on the input parameters is traversed. The traversal generates a set of traversed vertices that are the result of the graph traversal.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject matter described herein relate to offload technology. In aspects, a mechanism is described that allows an offload provider to use larger tokens. The larger token may be physical or virtual. In response to an offload read command, a larger token may be created and data from the larger token may be split or injected into multiple tokens of a smaller size. In response to an offload write command, data from the multiple tokens may be combined into a larger token and/or extracted and used to obtain bulk data.

Abstract: A system and a method for sharing online storage services among multiple users are provided. The system includes a user communication interface, a file processing module, and an online storage communication interface. The user communication interface is configured to connect to a client end corresponding to a first user. When the user communication interface receives a file upload request and a corresponding upload file from the client end, the file processing module searches for a personal online storage of the first user and a shared online storage of at least one related user of the first user and determines to upload the upload file to a partial online storage of the personal online storage and the shared online storage. The online storage communication interface transfers the upload file to the partial online storage determined by the file processing module.

Abstract: An approach for allocating computing resources based on a confidence level associated with responses to queries is provided. In a typical embodiment, a query is received from a querying user, and a search for a response to the query is conducted. A confidence level associated with the response is then determined. If the confidence level of the response does not meet a predetermined threshold, additional computing resources are allocated, and the search and corresponding response are updated (e.g., iteratively). An updated confidence level based on the updated response is then determined. Once the predetermined threshold has been met by the confidence level of the response, the response can be returned to the querying user.
