Abstract: A system and method is presented for the highlighting of web-based books and text documents. Data is maintained in a database relating to books, chapters, pages, and page portions. Through the use of a user interface, users create highlights to the text documents by adding highlight database items to the database associated with page portions. Highlighted text portions are used to create excerpt documents, to value and price a request to license a portion of a text document, and to perform searches relating to the text document.

Abstract: System and methods for managing collaborative content resources, such as blogs, collaborative portals, and encyclopedias. In one embodiment, the collaborative resources comprise so-called “wikis” managed within an encyclopedia environment comprising a group of curators. The curators sponsor, peer-review, and accept or reject articles written by experts. When an article is accepted, the senior author joins the group of curators. Each accepted article has a curator and a group of assistant curators. When a registered user modifies the article, the modification is not shown to the public until it is approved by the curator or at least one assistant curator of the article. Upon approval, the user joins the group of assistant curators of the article. Each user has a rank, which in one variant reflects the number of times the approval or rejection decision by the user coincided with the approval or rejection decision by the curator.

Abstract: Computer program products and methods for query collection optimization and executing a query collection against one or more electronic documents are disclosed. According to one embodiment, a method of executing a query collection having a plurality of full term queries against an electronic document includes receiving the query collection, determining common terms, and searching the electronic document for the common terms in accordance with a frequency that the common terms appear in the query collection. The method further includes, for each common term found in the electronic document, searching the electronic document for full term queries that include the common term that was found in the electronic document. The method further includes, for each common term not found in the electronic document, preventing a search of the electronic document for the full term queries that include the common term that was not found in the electronic document.

Abstract: An information retrieval system uses phrases to index, retrieve, organize and describe documents. Phrases are identified that predict the presence of other phrases in documents. Documents are the indexed according to their included phrases. Related phrases and phrase extensions are also identified. Phrases in a query are identified and used to retrieve and rank documents. Phrases are also used to cluster documents in the search results, create document descriptions, and eliminate duplicate documents from the search results, and from the index.

Abstract: Method, system, and computer program product for faceted search with relationships between categories are provided. The method includes: having a document set of multiple documents, each document having associated categories to which it belongs; grouping multiple categories associated with a document into a category set based on a relationship between the multiple categories; associating the category set with the document; and indexing the category set for retrieval of documents from categories sharing a category set. Wherein indexing the category set includes: having an index entry of a textual representations of a category, wherein the index entry includes a single occurrence for each document to which the category is attached; adding a payload to a document occurrence of a serialization of an identifier of the category sets to which the category belongs associated with the document.

Corresponding apparatuses are also provided.

Abstract: Media content is parsed and content units of the media content are separated from its presentation data. The content units can be stored in a separate repository, such as a database, or repositories, such as with cloud storage, from where the content can be shared across various other electronic documents or other media contents. The content sections or “units,” are replaced within the media content or electronic document by references to the content in the content repository or repositories. The modified media content or electronic document with references can be stored in a separate section of the content repository or repositories or a different repository. To render the media content when requested or in response to a request by a user, the content and presentation information of the media content can be retrieved from their respective repositories and media content is synthesized, or otherwise put together.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method receives a plurality of documents. The documents may be received from different medical providers. Also, the documents may be medical record documents generated or captured in a first format and a second format. The first format may be an unstructured data format and the second format may be a structured data format. The first and second documents are then converted to a common format. For example, a common format may emerge as the most restrictive or constrained denominator of the first format and the second format. A schema is determined that provides an organizational structure with categories that can be used to index the content of the first and second documents while they are being converted to the common format. The schema and indexing enable the different formats of documents to be combined and organized simultaneously into a single view for a comprehensive review.

Abstract: In trend information search device, an expanded query generator generates an expanded query by adding, as search conditions, trend information element to the input search conditions containing the search keyword, wherein the trend information element is a character string of a natural language characteristically appears in documents containing the trend information. A searcher searches external document data using the expanded query. A trend information evaluator evaluates the degree to which the trend information for the statistical quantities satisfying the input conditions are contained in a document searched by the searcher, based on the occurrence status of the trend information element and the input search keyword in the document.

Abstract: Techniques for clustering of search results are described. In an example embodiment, a plurality of first clusters is determined, in a corpus of articles, independently of user queries issued against the corpus of articles, where each first cluster represents a group of articles that relate to a news story. One or more cluster identifiers are assigned to each article in the corpus, where the one or more cluster identifiers respectively identify one or more of the plurality of first clusters to which the article belongs. A query that specifies search criteria against the corpus of articles is received. In response to receiving the query, a result for the query is generated by at least selecting, from the corpus of articles, a set of articles based on the search criteria. The selected set of articles is grouped into one or more second clusters based at least on the one or more cluster identifiers that are assigned to each article in the set of articles.

Abstract: A method for detecting similar documents includes extracting an entity from each of a first web document and a second web document; determining an importance contribution element corresponding to each of the web documents; calculating, using the processor, weights for each entity based on the determined importance contribution elements; and determining whether the web documents are similar documents based on the calculated weights. A device to detect similar documents includes a storage device; an entity extractor stored on the storage device and configured to extract an entity from a first web document and a second web document and to determine an importance contribution element from each of the web documents; a weight calculator configured to calculate weights of each entity based on the determined importance contribution elements; and a similar document detection unit configured to determine whether the web documents are similar documents based on the calculated weights.

Abstract: A collaborative authoring application provides an authoring environment in which two or more users can edit a document concurrently. Each user edits a copy of the document, sends updates to a master copy of the document, and receives updates from the master copy of the document. The authoring environment generally inhibits the users from providing conflicting editing instructions to the master copy of the document. For example, each user can generate a content lock about one or more data units within the document. The authoring environment may synchronize content locks automatically and content only at the request of the user.

Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed for representing information included in unstructured text documents into a structured format. The systems and techniques identify events and information associated with the events in unstructured documents, classify the identified events and information, and represent the identified events and information in a structured format based on a computed classification score. The systems and techniques may also assign a confidence score to identified events, compare the confidence score associated with events to a confidence score associated with a trained confidence model, and represent the identified events and information associated with the events in a structured format based on the comparison.

Abstract: A method and a system for providing snippets of source documents of an answer to a fact query are disclosed. Snippets of source documents may be provided in response to a user request for the source documents from which the fact answer to a fact query was extracted. The snippets include the terms of the fact query and terms of the answer. The snippets may be displayed along with Uniform Resource Locators (URL's) of the source documents.

Abstract: In the method of processing documents relating to shipped articles, automatic means execute the following steps: performing character recognition in at least one document made available by a carrier of the articles; obtaining at least one article reference made up of characters; obtaining at least one character string associated with the reference and distinct therefrom; calculating respective match percentages between the string and templates in a database; determining whether at least one of the percentages satisfies at least one predetermined condition; and when the condition is satisfied, associating the article reference with a template of the database relating to said percentage, and executing an action concerning the article reference by means of the associated template.

Abstract: One embodiment provides a system for searching related documents. During operation, the system receives a source document. The system then searches related documents based on semantic entities extracted from the source document. Abstract: A method and apparatus for sending information to a data processing apparatus for identifying a document to share with a recipient. A handheld device is capable of communicating with the data processing apparatus. Information is captured from the document and stored in the handheld device as document data. A communications path is established between the handheld device and the data processing apparatus. The document data is sent to the data processing apparatus through the communications path. Reference documents are provided. Each reference document has reference data stored in a memory. At least a portion of the received document data is extracted as scanning data. The reference data is retrieved from the memory. The scanning data is compared with the reference data. When the scanning data matches at least a portion of the reference data of one of the reference documents, the one reference document is selected as the identified document for forwarding to the recipient.

Abstract: An electronic discovery archive can continuously pull documents and store them in a way that makes it easy to discover and put documents on litigation hold, independent of the native storage used by a given application. Users can continue to modify documents on litigation hold, and revisions are tracked and saved in the archive to comply with the litigation hold. A legal discovery system can then operate against the archive.

An acquirer acquires one or more strings from each of said extracted documents, wherein each of acquired strings includes all of said search strings in each of the extracted documents. A priority determinater determines an output priority for each of said extracted document based on length of said acquired strings acquired from the extracted document. An outputter outputs said extracted document in association with said determined output priority.

Abstract: In a searching device, an extractor extracts extracted documents, each of which contains a desired search string, from a plurality of document groups each including a plurality of documents. A preference determiner determines an output preference for each of the extracted documents in accordance with a predetermined rule. A group determiner determines, in sequence for each of the plurality of document groups, whether or not the document group is a determined group which contains one or more satisfying documents among extracted documents satisfying a predetermined output condition. And, an outputter outputs, in sequence for each of the plurality of the determined groups, a predetermined number of the satisfying documents contained in the determined group.

Each data set has at least one common attribute that links it to all other types of data sets for the building. The information for maintaining the building is stored in a manner allowing users to retrieve only selective information from a vast amount of stored information. Users can query and retrieve data sets in a vast number of combinations relating to a specific building, or floor, room, system or system component in the building.

Abstract: Embodiments of the inventive concept can extract digital document information related with a specific individual to achieve a work load reduction associated with evidentiary material preparation for litigation. Recorded digital information can be displayed and user-specifying information can be set for each of a plurality of document files. The user-specifying information shows which user contained in user information one or more document files is related with. A recording unit can record the set user-specifying information. At least one user is selected, and a document file where user-specifying information which corresponds to the selected user was set is searched. Additional information showing whether or not the searched document file is related with the litigation is set via a display unit. A document file which is related with litigation is outputted based on the additional information.

Abstract: In a collaborative computing environment, a method and system for displaying revisions associated with a hosted electronic document are disclosed. In accordance with the disclosed method and system, select revisions of an electronic document may be displayed to a user, recreating a visual history play-back of the evolution of the electronic document. The electronic document may be displayed in a web-browsing application, utilizing a Document Object Model (“DOM”) retrieving the select revisions via Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (“AJAX”) calls to a remote device/server.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and a system of providing assistance to a user to identify at least one context of a received content. Abstract: An interactive system provides for increasing retrieval performance of images depicting text by allowing users to provide relevance feedback on words contained in the images. The system includes a user interface through which the user queries the system with query terms for images contained in the system. Word image suggestions are displayed to the user through the user interface, where each word image suggestion contains the same or slightly variant text as recognized from the word image by the system than the particular query terms. Word image suggestions can be included in the system by the user to increase system recall of images for the one or more query terms and can be excluded from the system by the user to increase precision of image retrieval results for particular query terms.

Abstract: A method searches related terms using an electronic device. The method adds time stamps to one or more electronic documents, and obtains related terms according to the electronic documents. The method further calculates a time gap between each related term and a preset query term, obtains updated related terms by removing specified related terms whose time gap is greater than a preset value, and obtains search results from a data source by performing a search operation according to the updated related terms.

Following an event, the method provides for production of a book compiling the information and comments of the visitors in a pleasing format suitable for long term use. The method also produces customized printed materials for mailing or emailing to event visitors.

Abstract: A system and method providing a multi-party document revision capability. A master electronic document (MED) may be established on a central computer platform. The MED is embedded with an unalterable document identification code (DIC) which clearly identifies the single instance of the MED. Parties having permission to access, modify, and approve the MED on the central computer platform are each provided with a unique identifier code (UIC) which is associated with the DIC and, therefore, the MED. Any permitted party having an assigned UIC may access the MED and enter proposed changes to the MED on the central computer platform. However, each party associated with the MED has to approve any proposed change before the proposed change is automatically entered as a formally accepted change into the MED.
