Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosed innovations provide systems and methods for locating data associated with rendered documents. Some embodiments support the use of a handheld document data capture device.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides an information search method and system applicable in an information search system wherein each document has corresponding forward index data to address the issue of low search efficiency suffered by existing information search techniques. In one aspect, the method may include: receiving an inquiry word and obtaining one or more keywords contained in the inquiry word by segmentation; searching one or more documents matching the one or more keywords and forward index data corresponding to the one or more documents through the information search system's inverted index data; and determining an abstract of each of the one or more documents according to a corresponding document's forward index data, and outputting the abstract and information of the one or more documents as a search result. The proposed techniques can increase efficiency of information search and, at the meantime, guarantee accuracy of the search to a certain extent.

Abstract: The browsing activity of a first user is motivated by some intent. The first user requests retrieval of a particular document while browsing. A document processing and presentation machine associates the document with a retrieval path taken by the first user. By using the retrieval path data of the document, the document processing and presentation machine infers an intent that likely motivated the first user. When a second user makes a request similar to a request within the retrieval path, the machine presents the second user with the document and some of the retrieval path data, thus providing the second user with a shortcut that leads the second user directly to the document. Thus, the second user may be able to satisfy his intent with significantly less browsing activity compared to the first user.

Abstract: Described herein is a document management system and method comprising associating a graphic image with document processing information with an electronic document and further processing at least one of the graphic image and electronic document in accordance with the document processing information.

Abstract: A continuous, emergent, anytime process clusters input documents according to a similarity function within a node-based, distributed computing environment, for example, within a client/server environment. An agent (DAg) assigned to each document determines whether its document should remain at a node or be moved to another node to increase similarity clustering. An agent (SAg) assigned to each node may be operative to manage storage requirements within its node, and/or manage communications between the nodes of the environment as the DAgs operate. Typically a move request is issued to another node if it is determined that clustering would increase by moving a document to that node. In such an instance, the SAg assigned to that other node would probabilistically consider the move request in view of other such requests in sequence to avoid overloading. To enhance performance, documents may be preprocessed and given values representative of similarity.

Abstract: A text mining network that improves the performance of search engines by using a network of computer entities with autonomous neural networks. Each neural network provides a weighted list of associated search terms for each search query. The lists of associated search terms from two or more computer entities are merged to a unique list of associated search terms by utilization of a virtual index algorithm. Document result sets from the autonomous entities are merged to a unique result set by a weighted combination of two or more result sets.

Abstract: Information corresponding to a sentence or less of text is scanned from a rendered document and converted to text. The text is communicated to a search engine. Electronic content corresponding to the rendered document from which the text was scanned is identified from the search engine results.

Abstract: Systems and methods according to these exemplary embodiments provide for reducing the amount of data stored in a network. This can occur by reducing the quantity of personal contact cards associated with an individual that are stored within a network by replacing the quantity of stored copies with links to the single copy on the network.

Abstract: Generating a report involves phases such as (a) database queries or other raw data accesses, (b) calculations such as data grouping, sorting, filtering, aggregation, (c) data presentation layout, (d) data formatting, and (e) rendering. When generating a modified version of a report, reusable interim results for phases (b), (c), and (d) are identified and retrieved from a cache instead of being recalculated. Newly calculated interim results are also cached for possible future use.

Abstract: A method of identifying a provenance of a document is provided. The method may include obtaining a query document that is included in a document set comprising a plurality of documents. The method may also include grouping the plurality of documents into a plurality of fine clusters based on a textual similarity between the plurality of documents. The method may also include identifying a target fine cluster within the plurality of fine clusters, the target fine cluster including the query document. The method may also include ordering the documents included in the target fine cluster based, at least in part, on metadata associated with each of the documents to identify a source document. The method may also include generating a query response that includes the source document.

Abstract: A disclosed workflow management method includes a workflow starting step of determining a workflow based on one or more tags attached to a workflow document, attaching a status tag and a participant tag to the workflow document, and starting the workflow; and a review/approval step of requesting review and/or approval of the workflow document based on the status tag and the participant tag and updating the status tag and the participant tag after the review and/or approval.

Abstract: An image processing method using an electronic device configures additional information into an image file. The electronic device acquires the image file stored in a storage unit and adds the additional information into at least one image layer of the image file. A user can determine whether both the additional information of the image file and the image file are displayed in a display unit at the same time.

Abstract: A table of contents is generated for search results in response to a search query by identifying semantic concepts as topics for inclusion within the table of contents. When a search query is received, a search is performed to identify search results. The search results are compared to an ontology of topics to identify relevant topics. Additionally, search results are compared to an ontology of partial topics to identify relevant partial topics, which are named. Independent key-phrases are further generated from search results and identified as key-phrase topics. The identified topics, named partial topics, and key-phrase topics are ranked, and topics are selected for inclusion within a table of contents. A search results page is returned in response to the search query that includes search results and the generated table of contents.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus (5) is provided comprising: a lexicon generation module (22) operable to process a set of documents (1) to identify key words (2) present in the documents; a link generation module (24) operable to generate network data (3) linking documents which share the same or semantically related key words identified by the lexicon generation module; and a network analysis module (26) operable to associate documents with metric values based upon the patterns of connectivity of the network data generated by the link generation module. The metric values associated with documents in the set can be utilized to select documents or groups of associated documents for further processing or indexing.

Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for returning search results based on text and associated synonyms. The system including an input module configured for receiving a text search term. A search module is configured for searching index documents with the text search term to return matched index documents, and for searching synonym index entries to return classifications for synonym expansion for expanding the search for index documents. An analyzer module is configured for obtaining tokens for the text search term from the synonym index entries for determining matched synonym index entries. The search module is further configured for obtaining assigned synonym matching strength information of the matched synonym index entries in a search results list, and for sorting the search results list based on a confidence score to form a sorted search results list. An output module for presenting the sorted search result list on an interface module.

Abstract: A temporary state service protocol is utilized by clients to temporarily store and access data within rows of a database between different requests made by end users. Each client creates and manages one or more items for storing data in rows of the database independently from other clients. An Application Programming Interface (API) is used to create and interact with the data that is temporarily stored in items within rows of the database. Different clients may share data within a single item and the data may persist beyond a session ending. Different rows of the database may be related such that a procedure affecting one of the rows affects its related rows.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus consistent with the invention provide improved organization of documents responsive to a search query. In one embodiment, a search query is received and a list of responsive documents is identified. The responsive documents are organized based in whole or in part on usage statistics.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are provided for ranking documents. An exemplary method includes receiving a plurality of queries from a user that are related to a search topic. The queries are compared to a plurality of documents stored in a database to identify candidate documents that match one or more of the queries. The number of matching queries is determined for the candidate documents. The candidate documents are ranked, using a computer processor, for relevance to the search topic based at least on the number of matching queries for each respective candidate document.

Abstract: A system and method for managing the ordering, maintenance and delivery of documents (e.g., technical publications, journals, etc.) in a copyright-compliant manner. A company having a plurality of users having a significant need to access a plurality of documents, order a large number of documents, may utilize the system and method to centrally manage the company's document ordering needs. The system and method provides for the end-to-end management of the access to the plurality of the documents and the entire document delivery supply chain from the publisher to the user anywhere, anytime on any of the user's devices. Use of the system and method enables a company to efficiently control the automated distribution of content in compliance with copyright restrictions set forth by document publishers.

The reader could provide feedback directly as well when they read the document through the document editing tool.

Abstract: An electronic bill presentment and payment system including an extensible, customizable, data source independent data layer for accessing a business data repository for processing billing information. The business data repositories use one or more data source formats. A business logic module generating business data requests for data from the business data repository in order to carry out processing of billing information. The business data requests are independent of the one or more data source formats of the business data repository. A data layer descriptor repository stores customizable data source descriptions for generating the data layer. The data layer is generated from the customizable descriptors in the data layer descriptor repository. The data layer module receives the data source independent business data requests and based on the request, the data layer implements a data source specific method for fulfilling the request by accessing data in the business data repository.

Abstract: A system and method for a search engine is disclosed. A method for operating a search engine may include calculating a plurality of document vectors, receiving a search request, calculating a search request vector, calculating a distance between the search request vector and the plurality of document vectors, and returning a list of documents that are within a predetermined distance of the search request vector. An information handling system for a search engine may include a central processing unit that is coupled to a general purpose graphical processing unit. The central processing unit is able to calculate a plurality of document vectors, receive a search request, calculate a search vector, and return a list of documents that are within a predetermined distance of the search request vector. The general purpose graphical processing unit is able to calculate a distance between the search request vector and the plurality of document vectors.

Abstract: The present technology is related to identifying, from within a corpus of documents, a subject (e.g., person, location, date, etc.) that is relevant to a topic and that is usable to enhance a topic-describing document. Documents within the corpus of documents share a link structure, such that some documents include hyperlinks that enable navigation to the topic-describing document, and the topic-describing document includes hyperlinks that enable navigation to other documents. Text of documents within the corpus is parsed to identify the subject, and a context of the subject suggests a degree of relevance of the subject to the topic. An enhancement type of the subject is determined, and a version of the topic-describing document is enhanced to include a presentation of the subject.

Abstract: Updated queries are maintained in a cache. A search engine receives a query from a user through a query entry field. The search engine determines search results corresponding to the user query. A new entry mapping the user query to the search results is generated in a cache of results. A web crawler retrieves a new batch of documents for a particular document collection. A search index associated with a search engine is updated to reflect new documents in the document collection. A search engine of queries receives documents from the new batch of documents as inputs. Based on the received documents, the search engine of queries determines which of the queries would have returned the documents as relevant in a search. These queries are determined to be stale and invalidated.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media for providing a scenario desktop for recording a current event scenario and a content desktop for presenting information about a previously recorded event scenario are disclosed. When a first event scenario is detected on the mobile device, the scenario desktop is presented on the mobile device. The scenario desktop exists in parallel with a default primary desktop of the mobile device. An information bundle is created for the first event scenario, including one or more documents accessed through the scenario desktop during the first event scenario. Access to the one or more documents is automatically provided on the mobile device during a second event scenario related to the first event scenario. The access is provided through the content desktop existing in parallel with the primary desktop and the scenario desktop. Other scenario-based content retrieval and presentation methods are also disclosed.

Abstract: A system for identifying an electronic counterpart for a rendered document is described. The system receives an indication of a text capture operation performed from a rendered document. The indication identifies a text sequence captured as part of the text capture operation, the identified text sequence comprising fewer than nine words. In response to receiving the indication, the system uniquely identifies an electronic document from which the rendered document was rendered.

Abstract: A method of searching a database containing documents with handwritten annotations stored in association with document content is disclosed. The method receives as inputs a handwritten annotation as a handwritten search input and a content element as a content search input. A search is then performed of the database for handwritten annotations in a document matching the handwritten search input and less than a given physical distance from document content equal to the content search input in the document.

Abstract: A steam-based document storage and retrieval system accepts documents that are in diverse formats and come from diverse application, automatically creates document model objects describing these documents in a consistent format and associating time stamps with the documents to automatically create a main stream in chronological order. The stream, or sub-streams meeting selected search criteria, are displayed in a variety of forms, including a receding, partly overlapping stack with aids that facilitate user interaction.

Abstract: The invention provides a system and method for retrieving documents from a collection of documents that match a word search query. A word index is generated for each document in which each entry is an enriched-term string built from the stemmed form of the word to be searched and a separator character followed by the original form of the word to be searched. During a retrieving operation, a search query is processed depending the original form or the stemmed form of a word to be searched. Cross-documents tables are addressed to find documents that match the enriched-term string of the word to be searched.

Abstract: An image quality correction process of an image file which is stored in a memory card is performed and the processed image is stored in the memory card. In addition, referents of the image file are changed from places storing bodies of the original files to places storing bodies of the processed files. In response to a file access instruction is received from a user PC, a cluster content (image file) of a cluster number designated by the memory card is transmitted. In this way, the image after the APF process is received only by accessing to the image which is stored in the memory card without special operations in the user PC side.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for presenting search results with indication of relative position of search terms. According to one aspect of the invention, search results are displayed for a search query comprising a plurality of search terms. A search query is received, for example, from a user and at least one document satisfying the search query is obtained. The disclosed method determines a relative position of at least two of the search terms in the document and at least a portion of the document is presented with an indication of the relative position of the at least two search terms in the document. The relative position is indicated using a predefined character to indicate one or more intervening elements between the at least two search terms. A relevance ranking can optionally be presented that is based on the relative position of the at least two search terms.

Abstract: Method, system, and article of manufacture for a content management system (CMS) to bind a data object (typically, an XML document) to an associated configuration set (or sets) are disclosed. The configuration set may reference a set of configuration files such as XML schemas/DTDs, style sheets, CMS processing rules, and the like. The CMS may store bindings between a data object and a given configuration set in a CMS repository.

Abstract: The present invention provides an improved recommender system. In some embodiments, the recommender system automatically builds a user profile for a user based solely on the action or actions the user takes with respect to certain documents and the contents of the documents. That is, the profile is based on implicit ratings. In addition to maintaining a user profile for each user, each document in a set of documents will have its own document profile, which is also referred to as a document vector. Advantageously, in some embodiments, the user profile will consist of the same attributes as the document vectors. This advantageous feature enables the recommender system to compare users and documents in order to generate recommendations.

Abstract: Techniques are described herein for classifying a search query with respect to query intent using search result tag ratios. A tag is a character or a combination of characters (e.g., one or more words) that indicates a property of a document, such as a topic of the document, a type of entity (i.e., subject matter) the document references, etc. A search result tag ratio is defined as a fraction (e.g., a proportion, a percentage, etc.) of the documents in a search result that includes a respective tag. A search query may be classified based on back-off ratios, which are tag ratios of search queries that are related to the search query to be classified. Tag ratios may be pre-computed (i.e., calculated before the corresponding search queries are received from users).

Abstract: A method and system for improved query expansion in faceted search are provided. The method includes: receiving a search query; expanding the search query to obtain query expansion terms; and receiving a facet selection for the search query. A facet profile is retrieved in the form of collected important terms for the facet; and the query expansion terms are weighted by comparing them to the facet profile. The query expansion terms are re-ranked and the method includes executing the re-weighted query expansion terms whilst filtering for the facet.

Abstract: A method for creating and managing contact information in the context of an online social networking community. Each member of the social networking community creates a member profile containing contact information such as email address, telephone numbers, and street addresses. When a member joins a subgroup or secure network within the social networking community, the member's profile is shared with all other members of that secure network. The member's own contacts are also shared with all other members of the network such that one member of the network has access to all contacts of every other member of the network. Contact profiles are automatically updated as the owner of the profile provides new information to his or her profile. Duplicate entries are minimized by a matching feature that alerts members to the creation of possible duplicates and allows the members to merge, delete, or or ignore potential duplicate profiles.

Abstract: Document relevance is determined with respect to a region of interest (ROI). A set of location references may be associated with a set of documents. The system selects location references associated with an ROI and then selects documents corresponding to the selected location references. The selected documents can be reported or processed further. A document-location reference index can be accessed when the present system is ‘online’ and processing a request for documents relevant to an ROI. The document-location reference index may be generated and updated while the present system is ‘offline’ and not processing a request for documents. The resulting relevant documents may be provided to a user in response to a document search associated with the ROI or along with an advertisement associated with the ROI.

Abstract: Provided are an apparatus for creating a workflow of a composition web service and a functionality information construction method for creating a workflow of a composition web service. The apparatus and method analyze procedural knowledge described in web documents to normalize and continuously accumulate functionality information required for performing a task, and automatically configure a workflow of a composition web service by combining pieces of the accumulated functionality information, thereby solving the problem of a discordance occurring when one composition web service is configured by dynamically combining multiple different web services.

The management-information analyzing unit acquires the discarding information corresponding to the confidentiality level of the document read by the reading unit and informing the discarding information from the informing unit.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with document relevancy are described. One example method includes receiving one or more query terms from a query on stored documents. A relevancy operator is run on a document clump that applies more than one type of matching operation between the query terms and the document clump in a single pass. The relevancy operator may also apply at least one heuristic on the document clump in a single pass. A document's relevancy to the query is predicted based, at least in part, on an output of the relevancy operator.

Abstract: The specification and drawing figures describe and show a vehicle identification system that includes a programmable application for database management of a plurality of customer-specific vehicle descriptors. The vehicle identification system also includes a mobile computing platform in a mobile satellite communications system adapted to operatively associate the customer-specific vehicle descriptors with a vehicle.

Abstract: A method and system for using a proxy agent based access to documents and the corresponding summaries and its subsequent usage is disclosed. The method and system provides for retrieving a document, generating or retrieving summary, generating statistical parameters to judge the summary quality, using text segmentation to judge the quality of the summary, getting user rating input and using it to train a classifier, using the classifier to predict the rating of a summary, displaying the summary along with its rating, and optionally overlaying the summary display with relevant advertising and thus prevent denial of information/information overload and stimulating accelerated learning.

Abstract: A digital magazine publishing system is presented. A magazine publishing system can include one or more publishing development environments where different digital magazine publishers can create, manage, or distribute their digital magazines to their subscribers. Issues of the magazines can be stored on a magazine server. A subscriber can submit a request to the server for a magazine issue from the subscriber's cell phone, where the request includes device attributes related to the subscriber's phone. In response, the magazine server can obtain the requested issue and edit the issue based on the device attributes in preparation for presentation on the cell phone.

Abstract: An approach is provided for exploring connections of a polymorphic note. A polymorphic note manager receives a request to display one or more polymorphic notes connected to a selected polymorphic note. In response to the request, the polymorphic note manager determining the one or more connected polymorphic notes and causes, at least in part, actions that result in display of the selected polymorphic note, the one or more connected polymorphic notes, corresponding connections between the selected polymorphic note and the one or more connection polymorphic notes, or a combination thereof.

Abstract: The subject application is directed to a document processing workflow system and method. On an associated display, a web output is generated and a document processing instructions is received for commencing an operation on a document processing device. A workflow manager commences a workflow instance based upon the received document processing instruction. The workflow instance includes ascertaining the status of the operation, generating an error signal based upon the status, and generating an image on the display that corresponds to the output of the document processing device resulting from the operation. The workflow instance also includes the receipt of a location specified by the user for a data storage that is associated with the operation, and exchanging electronic document data with the user-specified data storage location.

Abstract: A core idea of present invention is not only to have one fixed link/reference to one specific database, but to use a script/formula (e.g. a Notes @formula/expression) that resolves to a link to a specific database at runtime. This allows pointing to different NSFs in the development environment vs. production environment vs. any other environment. This reference (e.g., the @formula/expression) is written in a new user interface (UI) of the Lotus Notes Composite Application Editor (CAE) that is part of the current UI to define component property preferences. This UI would generate the XML below so that users don't have to do this manually.

Abstract: A system and method for information retrieval from a corpus of text based on offline prominent sentences extraction, and online prominent sentences retrieval ordered by predefined criteria, and recommending online cross-interest prominent sentences.
