In the data synchronization system, a synchronization message transmitting party transmits a synchronization message with meta information to a synchronization message receiving party, and the synchronization message receiving party interprets and stores the meta information included in the synchronization message, and performs further processing for data that is to be synchronized, according to the meta information. Therefore, the frequency of wireless connections for synchronization is minimized.

Abstract: Via a graphical user interface, a user can select multiple different services (e.g., remote repositories such as websites) having contact information associated with the user's contacts (e.g., friends, Internet buddies, friends of friends, acquaintances, etc.). Based on the selection of multiple services, the contact information manager communicates with the multiple services over a network to retrieve the contact information associated with the user's friends (i.e., contacts). The retrieved contact information can specify identities of the multiple contacts as well as different communication modes (e.g., phone, e-mail, addresses information, whereabouts information, etc.) for communicating with the user's contacts. One or more of the documents that have overlaps that satisfy a first criterion are selected. A request for a replacement for the web page is received from the client system and replacement web page information is provided to the client system. The replacement web page information is selected from the set consisting of A) one or more links to the one or more selected documents, B) a redirect to one of the one or more selected documents, and C) one of the one or more selected documents.

Abstract: In general, techniques are described for an RDF (Resource Description Framework) database system which can scale to huge size for realistic data sets of practical interest. In some examples, a database system includes a Resource Description Framework (RDF) database that stores a plurality of data chunks to one or more storage drives, wherein each of the plurality of data chunks includes a plurality of triples of the RDF database. The database system also includes a working memory, a query interface that receives a query for the RDF database, a SPARQL engine that identifies a subset of the data chunks relevant to the query, and an index interface that includes one or more bulk loaders that load the subset of the data chunks to the working memory. The SPARQL engine executes the query only against triples included within the loaded subset of the data chunks to obtain a query result.

Abstract: Systems and methods for balancing electronic mailboxes among databases communicatively coupled to an information handling system are disclosed. A method may include comparing an actual utilization values for a first database to a threshold utilization value for the first database and, depending upon the results, identifying the first database as over-utilized. The method may also include comparing an actual utilization values for a second database to a threshold utilization value for the second database and, depending upon the results, identifying the second database as under-utilized. The method may further include comparing a threshold usage value of a first electronic mailbox stored in the first database to an upper threshold usage value for the first electronic mailbox and, depending upon the results, identifying the first electronic mailbox as heavily-utilized. The method may also include moving the heavily-utilized electronic mailbox to the second database.

Abstract: A system for consolidating data messages includes a memory that stores data messages. Each of the data messages has a user field, an outside party field, and a timestamp field. The first data message's user field is associated with a first user, the outside party field is associated with a first outside party, and the timestamp field is associated with a first timestamp. The third data message's user field is associated with a first user, the outside party field is associated with a first outside party, and the timestamp field is associated with a third timestamp. A processor then groups the first data message and the third data message based at least in part upon the user field, outside party field, and timestamp field of each message. The processor then combines the first data message and the third data message into a consolidated data message.

Abstract: A processing device executing a client of a distributed file system receives an initial file, wherein the distributed file system comprises a plurality of nodes, each of the plurality of nodes comprising a local file system that interfaces with the distributed file system. The processing device causes the plurality of nodes to generate file entries of the initial file. The processing device divides the initial file into a plurality of portions, each of the plurality of portions having initial offsets within the initial file. The processing device assigns subsets of the plurality of portions to the plurality of nodes, wherein each of the plurality of nodes is assigned a different subset. The processing device causes the plurality of nodes to write the portions of the assigned subsets at modified offsets within the file entries, wherein the modified offsets cause the portions of the assigned subsets to be contiguous.

Abstract: A database management system is described which includes a central database for storing records, the system being arranged to provide a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for a remotely-located mobile device to operatively interface to the central database, wherein the GUI comprises a hierarchy of graphical elements. The system further comprises: a logic module for determining how to arrange and output information retrieved from records in the central database and for outputting that information in an XML form; and a user interface module arranged to convert the information in XML form output of the logic module into a mark-up language suitable for a browser in a mobile device, using XSLT stylesheets, wherein the XLST stylesheets are organised in a hierarchical structure which maps onto the hierarchy of graphical elements within the GUI.

The entity configuration table corresponds to the entity that has changed. Abstract: An activity-modeling system computes an amount of time that a user is expected to spend when performing activities of a certain type. During operation, the system can obtain a plurality of location events associated with the user, such that a respective location event indicates a time at which a user logged his location while performed an activity related to the activity type. The system selects, from the plurality of location events, a set of location events associated with the activity type. The system determines an activity start-time and an activity end-time for the activity type from the set of location events, and computes an activity-duration time for the activity type based on the determined activity start-time and the activity end-time.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for using crowdsourcing to identify known-solvable data states which have been identified by users as leading to a solution to a scenario with defined constraints. In one example where the scenario is a computer card game, a number of users may be provided with an initial data state in the form of the cards being in a particular order. Where a user successfully completes the card game to a desired solution state, the initial data state of the cards may be stored as a known-solvable data state.

Abstract: In a method of online collaboration between multiple users, a subject for debate (e.g. a problem to be solved) is posted on a website. A number of keywords are assigned to the subject to categorize it (e.g. economics, healthcare, politics, hospitals). Proposals for the subject (e.g. possible solutions) are submitted by users and posted on the site. Other users give their opinion of these proposals through a rating system that allocates points to the proposal, the rating being based on a number of factors. These include but are not limited to: the opinion of the user rating the proposal (e.g. good, bad, great, very bad); and the points attained by that user's own proposals in related subjects. Thus, ratings submitted for proposals reflect demonstrated expertise of users, giving a more meaningful result.

The distributed data grid can provide a plurality of copies of a partition on a plurality of cluster nodes in the distributed data grid, wherein the plurality of cluster nodes includes a primary owner node and one or more backup nodes for the partition. The primary owner node can propagate one or more modifications of the partition from the primary owner node to the one or more backup nodes. The distributed data grid can ensure consistency among the plurality copies of the partition on the plurality of cluster nodes in the distributed data grid.

Abstract: Techniques are provided to allow users to define a global service that is offered across multiple replicated databases. Database clients connect to and use a global service just as they do with regular services on a single database today. Upon receiving a connection request, a collection of components, referred to collectively as the Global Data Service framework (GDS framework), automatically chooses the best database server instances to which to connect a client. Once those connections have been established, the clients determine which database server instance, of those database server instances to which they are connected, to send requests to based, at least in part, on advisory messages sent to the clients by the GDS framework.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for use in establishing secure end-to-end communication links over a VPN gateway via a network interface unit. Illustrative embodiments include establishing and providing secure communication relationships between users (customers) and companies for e-commerce and other business purposes. Each company's data and linkage to users remaining private and secure from the other participating companies as well as from the general public over the Internet. Login by user with network interface units, addressing, authentication, and other configuration operations achieved using a web page-based GUI are applied in establishing tunnels from LAN clients to desired VPN destinations. Required authentication exchanges and required encryption key exchanges facilitate the secure communications. Financial arrangements regarding the provisioning and use of network interface units are also disclosed.

Through the commuter groups, the users may share commuting routes, traffic updates, road conditions, and other information. Group members may arrange car pools, short term riding arrangements, and may anonymously or directly contact each other. The CGS may collect group member position information, e.g. GPS information, to enable the CGS to calculate traffic conditions and to select location specific information for group members. The system may include an on-line service accessible through a computer or wireless networking device. The user may log into the CGS, create or modify a user profile, and join groups of their choosing. Groups may be associated with specific events or with getting to/from work. Commuter groups may be formed for commuters that use private vehicles and/or public transportation.
