Using Distributed Data Base Systems, E.g., Networks, Etc. (epo) Patents (Class 707/E17.032)
  • Patent number: 8874795
Abstract: A data synchronization system is provided. In the data synchronization system, a synchronization message transmitting party transmits a synchronization message with meta information to a synchronization message receiving party, and the synchronization message receiving party interprets and stores the meta information included in the synchronization message, and performs further processing for data that is to be synchronized, according to the meta information. Therefore, the frequency of wireless connections for synchronization is minimized.

Abstract: Via a graphical user interface, a user can select multiple different services (e.g., remote repositories such as websites) having contact information associated with the user's contacts (e.g., friends, Internet buddies, friends of friends, acquaintances, etc.). Based on the selection of multiple services, the contact information manager communicates with the multiple services over a network to retrieve the contact information associated with the user's friends (i.e., contacts). The retrieved contact information can specify identities of the multiple contacts as well as different communication modes (e.g., phone, e-mail, addresses information, whereabouts information, etc.) for communicating with the user's contacts. The contact information manager processes the contact information from the multiple services and initiates display of the contact information in a unified listing.

Abstract: A storage management system, if the required response performance of the file is added to the access request from the host computer, compares the required response performance of the file with the response performance of the pool volume assigned to the page. If the response performance of the compared pool volume does not satisfy the required response performance, the storage management system selects a pool volume whose response performance satisfies the required response performance from the pool volumes, migrates the page to the selected pool volume, and stores the data in the page to which the pool volume is assigned.

Abstract: A method of suggesting replacements for unavailable web pages is performed at a server system separate from a client system. A web page is identified. For documents in a collection of web pages, respective overlaps of content in the web page and the documents are determined based on stored information about content in the web page and the documents. One or more of the documents that have overlaps that satisfy a first criterion are selected. A request for a replacement for the web page is received from the client system and replacement web page information is provided to the client system. The replacement web page information is selected from the set consisting of A) one or more links to the one or more selected documents, B) a redirect to one of the one or more selected documents, and C) one of the one or more selected documents.

Abstract: In general, techniques are described for an RDF (Resource Description Framework) database system which can scale to huge size for realistic data sets of practical interest. In some examples, a database system includes a Resource Description Framework (RDF) database that stores a plurality of data chunks to one or more storage drives, wherein each of the plurality of data chunks includes a plurality of triples of the RDF database. The database system also includes a working memory, a query interface that receives a query for the RDF database, a SPARQL engine that identifies a subset of the data chunks relevant to the query, and an index interface that includes one or more bulk loaders that load the subset of the data chunks to the working memory. The SPARQL engine executes the query only against triples included within the loaded subset of the data chunks to obtain a query result.

Abstract: A system for consolidating data messages includes a memory that stores data messages. Each of the data messages has a user field, an outside party field, and a timestamp field. The first data message's user field is associated with a first user, the outside party field is associated with a first outside party, and the timestamp field is associated with a first timestamp. The third data message's user field is associated with a first user, the outside party field is associated with a first outside party, and the timestamp field is associated with a third timestamp. • Patent number: 8660781
Abstract: A commuter groups service (CGS) allows commuters to join commuter groups so that they are able to socialize while commuting. Through the commuter groups, the users may share commuting routes, traffic updates, road conditions, and other information. Group members may arrange car pools, short term riding arrangements, and may anonymously or directly contact each other. The CGS may collect group member position information, e.g. GPS information, to enable the CGS to calculate traffic conditions and to select location specific information for group members. The system may include an on-line service accessible through a computer or wireless networking device. The user may log into the CGS, create or modify a user profile, and join groups of their choosing. Groups may be associated with specific events or with getting to/from work. Commuter groups may be formed for commuters that use private vehicles and/or public transportation.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method determines a job to dispatch for transcoding a source file. The source file is stored on a node in a distributed file system in which a plurality of nodes are storing a plurality of source files. The method then determines location information for the source file in the distributed file system where the location information identifies the node in which the source file is stored. Also, a node in the plurality of nodes is determined in which to dispatch the source file based on the location information for the source file. Then, the job is dispatched to the determined node such that transcoding of the source file is performed on the determined node.

Abstract: Pipelined data replication for disaster recovery is disclosed. An example pipelined data replication method for disaster recovery disclosed herein comprises sending replicated first data from a primary processing environment to a secondary processing environment for backup by the secondary processing environment, the replicated first data being a replica of first data in the primary processing environment, processing the first data in the primary processing environment prior to the backup of the replicated first data by the secondary processing environment being confirmed, and preventing a result of the processing of the first data from being released by the primary processing environment until the backup of the replicated first data by the secondary processing environment is confirmed.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for providing offline functionality for a web-based application. The client, data broker and remote server process read requests and create, delete or update commands they receive according to logic and network hierarchy. Periodic caching of data structures needed in the future further improves the offline functionality.

Abstract: System and method of sequencing distributed asynchronous messages. An inbound handler receives an incoming message with a sequence correlation value that identifies a sequence comprising the incoming message, and checks for a sequence status of the sequence. If the sequence status indicates that none of multiple outbound handlers is currently processing a message for the sequence and if the incoming message is the next message to be processed for the sequence, then the incoming message is forwarded to a queue storage and subsequently forwarded to an available outbound handler. If the sequence status indicates that at least one of the outbound handlers is currently processing a message of the sequence, if the queue storage already comprises a message to be processed for the sequence, or if the incoming message is not the next message to be processed for the sequence, then the incoming message is stored in overflow storage.

Abstract: A process can establish respective ratings for items in a list by determining respective measurements of performance of the items during each of a series of time windows. For each of the items and each time window, the process can adjust the rating of an item using multiple adjustments that are respectively associated with competing items in the list. Each of the adjustments may depend on the rating of the item, the rating of the competing item, and whether the measurement of performance of the item is higher than the measurement of the performance of the competing item.
