Abstract: A method and apparatus for displaying an indication of a synchronization delay for a portable computing device is disclosed. The synchronization latency describes the time separating data exchanges between the portable computing device and a server. The portable computing device determines the synchronization latency and generates a synchronization latency indicator providing a visional representation of the synchronization latency. The synchronization latency indicator is then displayed. For example, a count down timer depicting the interval from a current time to a data exchange with the server is displayed or an image is modified as the time from the current time to a data exchange with the server decreases.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for determining a zone of relevance for locating a wireless end-user and making a user notification decision including: storing information related to the enterprise in an enterprise database; storing information related to the end-user in an end-user database; accessing said enterprise and user end databases to extract enterprise and end-user related information; accessing a geographical database to extract geographic information, based on information obtained from the enterprise database; extracting relevant dynamic inputs from external sources via a predefined application programming interface; determining a value for the user notification based on weighting of said extracted information and historical use information; determining a zone of relevance for the wireless end-user; and notifying a user, wherein notifying the user meets predetermined criteria for the determined value of notification.

Abstract: A database server receives a data request from a client. In response to the data request, the database server selects, from a database, actual data that satisfies criteria specified by the data request. The database server retrieves the selected actual data from the database. Also in response to the data request, the database server redacts the retrieved data in real time without modifying the actual data contained within the database. This may be accomplished by the prior insertion of masking operators into a top SELECT clause of a query representation generated during semantic analysis. The database server returns the redacted data to the client as a reply to the data request.

Abstract: Techniques are described herein that are capable of provisioning and/or synchronizing a data store using common metadata. For instance, a common instance of metadata may be used in lieu of multiple instances of the metadata that correspond to respective items in the data store for indicating a time at which the data store was provisioned. Each time a change occurs with respect to an item in a data table of the data store after provisioning of the data store, a record may be added or updated in a corresponding tracking table. When a request is made for changes that have occurred with respect to the items in a data table, the common instance of the metadata may be used to generate a record in the corresponding tracking table for each item in the data table that did not change since the data store was provisioned.

Abstract: A system automatically configures a component of the system from a database operatively associated with the system. The system includes a number of components, each having a module with a unique configuration code and a first communication interface, and a processor. The processor includes a second communication interface structured to communicate with the first communication interface, an interface to the database, and a routine structured to input the unique configuration code from the module, determine if the unique configuration code is in the database, and responsively input configuration information from the database and automatically configure a corresponding one of the number of components with the configuration information.

Abstract: A data structure that includes a user profile including user profile information, and a data structure comprising a set of available telephone numbers can be accessed. A targeted list of one or more telephone numbers can be generated using the set of available telephone numbers and information from the user profile. The targeted list can include one or more telephone numbers from the set of available telephone numbers that match at least a portion of the user profile information. Also, the targeted list can be sent to a rendering computing environment for display. User input selecting a telephone number from the targeted list can be received. In response to user input, the selected telephone number can be associated with a user profile in a data structure.

Abstract: The present disclosure involves systems, software, and computer implemented methods for centralized message searching of business processes. One process includes identifying a process integration (PI) domain associated with a message search, where the PI domain includes at least one PI component, and receiving a set of user-defined search attributes for searching messages within the identified PI domain, where each search attribute associated with a corresponding value. At least one message corresponding to the set of the received user-defined search attributes associated with at least one PI component is identified, and information associated with the identified at least one message corresponding to at least a portion of the set of received search attributes is retrieved. At least a portion of the retrieved information associated with the identified at least one message is presented via a user interface.

Abstract: Various technologies described herein pertain to suggesting context dependent keywords for advertising. A set of seed queries can be identified from a context, where the context is a source keyword, a search query, a category, or a landing page. Moreover, the set of seed queries can be inputted to a search engine. A predetermined number of web pages returned by the search engine upon executing the set of seed queries can be retrieved. Candidate keywords can be extracted from the web pages returned by the search engine. Further, keywords from the candidate keywords can be selected from the candidate keywords based on relevance scores of the candidate keywords.

Abstract: A method for tenant placement in a multi-tenant system is shown that includes creating a weighted graph of tenants and sharing relationships between tenants, where a weight for each tenant and each sharing relationship represents an associated degree of resource consumption; and adding one or more tenants to a database using a processor based on said weighted graph and a database capacity, such that the combined weight of the added tenants and the sharing relationships belonging to the added tenants are within the database capacity. If a tenant cannot be added to the database without exceeding the database capacity, a new database is created and the one or more tenants are added to the new database, subject to a new database capacity. The adding and creating steps are repeated until all tenants have been added to a database.

Abstract: A collaborative data management system for engineering, design, and construction (EDC) projects is presented. The system includes a storage medium, a processor, executable code, a display, and an input device. The storage medium stores a plurality of EDC data objects and a plurality of relationship objects. The EDC data objects represent parameters relevant to EDC projects. The relationship objects represent relationships between EDC data objects. The processor and executable code are communicatively coupled with the storage medium and are configured to (i) display the relationship objects on the display and (ii) allow a user to manage synchronization of the EDC objects with the input device.

Abstract: Expanding a user's social connections to include mobile contacts includes: receiving a user's call logs for call/text transactions from a mobile device; deriving usage information from the call logs to determine social pairs; ranking the social pairs based on strength of connectedness; and merging the ranked social pairs with the user's contacts from on-line social networks.

Abstract: Methods for generating a data fetching plan in a multi-tenant system include placing tenants in consecutively allocated databases according to a weighted graph of tenants and sharing relationships between tenants, where at least one sharing relationship includes multiple accessing tenants accessing a given set of data from a provider tenant. For each sharing relationship, if a current database has one or more accessing tenants and does not have the provider tenant, data is fetched from the latest-allocated database prior to the current database that has accessing tenants, if such a database exists; if a current database has the provider tenant, data is provided to the earliest-allocated database after the current database that has accessing tenants if such a database exists. The fetching and providing steps are repeated for each allocated database.

Abstract: Technologies are described herein for exporting content items from multiple disparate content sources to a single repository. Query parameters are received for locating content items hosted by one or more content servers of different types for export. Native search queries are generated for each content server from the query parameters and are executed on each content server. An export manifest listing the content items for export is built from query results received from the content servers. Each content item listed in the export manifest is then retrieved from the corresponding content server and stored in a single export repository.

Abstract: A method for securely accessing a number of computing systems within a remote facility includes, with a mobile computing system, checking out access data from a centralized database, the access data providing access to the computing systems within the remote facility. The mobile computing device then interfaces with a first computing system, the first computing system being unable to have access criteria changed from a remote location. The mobile computing system then provides a user with access to the first computing system using the checked out access data without revealing that checked out access data to the user.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a system includes an on-site monitoring (OSM) data archival portion having one or more sensors configured to monitor a machine and generate corresponding monitoring data. The system also includes an on-site monitoring (OSM) archiver configured to receive and store the monitoring data collected by the one or more sensors. The system further includes an export service configured to export a portion of the monitoring data from the OSM archiver into one or more compressed files. The system also includes an export background intelligent transfer service (BITS) configured to establish a secure connection and send the one or more compressed files to an off-site location.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, are provided for data replication. In one aspect, there is provided a computer-implemented method. The method may include providing an initial load of a data item from a source system to a target system, wherein the data item is associated with a trigger maintained at the source system; recording a change in a log, when a change to the data item at the source system causes the trigger to prompt the recording; extracting the change from the log to enable at least a confirmation of a consistency of the change; and providing the extracted change to a replication server configured to write the change to the target system. Abstract: Systems, methods and computer program products for multi-path replication in databases are described herein. A non-limiting embodiment includes instantiating a plurality of replicate connections to a replicate database, providing transactions to the replicate database through a plurality of transaction streams, where the transaction streams associated with respective instantiated replicate connections. Transactions occurring in distinct transaction streams are applied, in parallel, at the replicate database. Another non-limiting embodiment includes instantiating a plurality of replication sender threads, where the replication sender threads communicate in parallel with respective replication servers over respective replication paths. Data sharing one or more attributes can be bound to a replication path in communication with the respective replication servers.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for a metasearch infrastructure. The metasearch infrastructure supports one or more of the following: hotel matching, backend support of user queries, frontend support for user queries, a cache layer that groups or organizes cached data in storage based on hotel location, scoring and ranking on the client side, experiments and rankers, duplicate booking prevention, blacklisting hotels, and indexing that utilizes a document-independent data structure to store index values.

Abstract: Technologies are described herein for locating relevant content items across multiple disparate content sources. Query parameters are received from a user interface for defining a query for searching a number of content sources located on multiple, disparate content servers. A native search is executed on each of the content servers based on the received query parameters, and query statistics and other data regarding content items in the content sources matching the query parameters are received. The query statistics are aggregated across the content servers and presented in the user interface. The presentation of the query statistics may be broken out by each content source, by each query phrase segmented from the query, and the like. In addition, a preview of a number of content items matching the query parameters is presented based on the data received.

Abstract: A system and method identifies pre-fetch map data to be downloaded from a remote server, having a map database, to a client device by using selectable parameters to control pre-fetching. For example, device specific parameters, such as device model number, and user specific parameters, such as user interests, may be accessed by the system and method and analyzed to determine which pre-fetch map data should be downloaded from the remote server. These parameters may be automatically stored on the client device or may be manually entered by the user. The responsive pre-fetch map data may be identified by map data type, map points of interest, map zoom level, or some other manner. Where the map database stores map data in tiles, the remote server will send selected map data tiles to the client device as the pre-fetch map data.

Abstract: A non-spreadsheet charting report showing dynamic data from a data feed may be designed by populating a spreadsheet template with a data snapshot of data currently collected to obtain a snapshot spreadsheet having rows and columns that map back to data fields of the data snapshot. A remote user can insert and/or modify one or more spreadsheet-chart elements to graphically depict aspects of the data snapshot. Report-presentation meta-data is then extracted from the modified spreadsheet, and a report-presentation template is generated for subsequent use. When a dynamic charting report is requested, updated data from the data feed is used to populate the report-presentation template.

Abstract: A record within a destination virtual file is generated on a destination node of a distributed data storage system. The record comprises a link directed to a source virtual file stored on a source node. The source virtual file is mapped to a chain of linked pages stored in a page buffer of the distributed data storage system. A request is later received at the destination node to access data defined by the destination virtual file. Data is provided, in response to the request, from the source virtual file stored on the source node using the link. Related apparatus, systems, techniques and articles are also described.

Abstract: A high availability cluster and method of storage medium management in such high availability cluster. A number k of nodes belonging to the cluster, where k?2 and includes a master node, are provisioned with high-access-rate and low-access-rate storage media. A file is written to the high-access-rate medium of a serving node selected from among k-1 nodes excluding the master node. The file is also written to low-access-rate medium of each of k-2 nodes excluding the master node and the serving node. A distributed storage medium management protocol supervises file migration from the, low-access-rate medium of a back-up node to the high-access-rate medium of the back-up node upon disruption of file availability on the serving node. File rebalancing relies on parameters including popularity, write- and read-requests, capacity, processing load or cost.

Abstract: A method is disclosed. The method includes detecting the contact area of a user's finger or a marking element marking a region of a touch-sensitive display, and recording a cumulative area contacted by the user's finger or the marking element during one marking motion. The cumulative area can be the selected content of interest.

Abstract: System, method, computer program product embodiments and combinations and sub-combinations thereof for snapshot isolation support for distributed query processing in a shared disk database cluster are provided. The embodiments include the forming of object identification data in a leader node of query execution in the shared disk database cluster. At least one fragment of the query execution is distributed to at least one worker node in the shared disk database cluster, and the object identification data is utilized for multiversion concurrency control during query execution by the leader node and at least one worker node.

Abstract: The management of data storage channel utilization in a computing system that has multiple users. The system receives file-level requests from requesters and then creates a history for each requester. Upon evaluating the history of each requester, the system determines whether to delay the file-level requests from entering the file system stack based on the result of the evaluation. The system delays one or more of the file-level requests if the history of the corresponding requester meets one or more criteria. If the history of the corresponding requester does not meet the criteria, the system allows the file-level requests to be passed to the file system stack without being delayed.

Abstract: According to a present invention embodiment, a system conducts a scan on a database object index with one or more gaps. The system generates one or more combinations of values for the gaps within an index with respect to an operation. Each combination of values is generated by scanning the index based on a combination of one or more scan values, adjusting a value for a gap based on scan results, and adjusting the scan values for a succeeding scan based on the scan results to reduce a quantity of scans. The index includes at least two database object elements. One or more scans of the index utilizing the combinations of values are conducted to retrieve data from the database and accommodate each gap in the index. Present invention embodiments further include a method and computer program product for conducting the index scan.

Abstract: An embodiment provides a method for server replication and transaction commitment. The method includes receiving a transaction from a client node at one or more memory nodes, each memory node comprising a number of replicas, and determining, for each one of the replicas, whether the replica is able to commit the transaction. The method also includes sending a response from each of the replicas to a consensus node, wherein the consensus node is configured to record whether the response is a commit response. The method further includes committing the transaction if, at each memory node, a quorum of the replicas is able to commit the transaction, and aborting the transaction otherwise.

Abstract: In one implementation, an apparatus includes a plurality of data access object (DAO) interfaces to facilitate interactions with a plurality of heterogeneous data sources, in which each of the plurality of DAO interfaces is to facilitate interaction with a different type of data source. The apparatus also includes a controller to receive an interaction request, to determine a data source of the plurality of data sources that is to service the interaction request, to select the DAO interface associated with the determined data source, and to implement the selected DAO interface to delegate communication of the interaction request for servicing of the interaction request by the determined data source.

Abstract: Techniques to determine network addressing for sharing media files are described. An apparatus may comprise a processor and a memory communicatively coupled to the processor. The memory may store an application having a media share component operative to receive a request to associate a media file with a document, the media file stored at a media file storage location, the document stored at a document storage location. The media share component may comprise multiple software modules, including a file reference module. The file reference module may be operative to analyze the media file storage location to determine a valid uniform resource locator (URL) that allows access to the media file.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for searching an enterprise intranet. An intranet search method includes receiving an intranet inquiry; and in response to the intranet inquiry, returning as a part of search results, a link matching the intranet inquiry in an email in an email system. An embodiment of the invention improves the performance of the intranet search engine such that it can better satisfy the employees' need.

Abstract: An embodiment provides a system and method for transaction commitment and replication. The method includes receiving a minitransaction from a client node at one or more memory nodes, wherein each memory node includes a number of replicas. The minitransaction is a type of transaction which atomically executes any combination of reading, comparing, and writing to any of a number of memory locations. The method also includes determining, for a leader of the replicas within a memory node, whether the leader is able to commit the minitransaction and stabilizing state changes of the minitransaction within a transaction log using a consensus procedure to update the replicas. The method further includes committing the minitransaction if, at each memory node, a quorum of the replicas is able to stabilize the minitransaction, or aborting the minitransaction otherwise.

Abstract: According to an embodiment, there is provided a method of generating a data structure stored in computer memory for processing a search query in a network of interconnected nodes, wherein the method comprises selecting landmark nodes by the following steps and storing the selected landmark nodes in the data structure: sampling from the network nodes a first sample of vertex pairs, computing the shortest path for each vertex pair, each shortest path comprising a set of vertices between each vertex in the vertex pair; identifying a first landmark node which occurs in more of the shortest paths more often than any other vertex; removing from the network vertices shortest paths including the first landmark node and identifying a second landmark node which occurs in more of the remaining shortest paths than any other remaining vertex.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include systems and methods for providing writable snapshot functionality for file systems. Pointer-based snapshots can be taken of an active version of the file system resulting in either (1) a read-only snapshot image and a new active version of the file system resulting from a read-only snapshot operation; or (2) a read-only snapshot image and two new active versions of the file system resulting from a writable snapshot operation. The two active file systems generated from writable snapshot operations are each independently and concurrently writable. Various techniques are also presented for handling multiple, concurrently active file systems. For example, novel techniques are described for allowing snapshot restore, compaction, and other functionality to operate in an environment having multiple read-only and writable versions of the file system.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for searching a message store on a portable device are described herein. The methods allow a plurality of possible search criteria to be generated and displayed. One or more of the possible search criteria may be selected and added to a search string that is used to search the message store.

Abstract: A device includes an input device configured to receive a plurality of user inputs including a predetermined user input. A display device is configured to display a graphical user interface. A memory device is configured to store device information. A help application is in communication with the input device, the display device, and the memory device and is configured to detect the predetermined user input and, in response, populate the graphical user interface with a list of selectable solutions associated with the device information in accordance with a performance rank associated with each solution.

Abstract: An apparatus, and an associated method, facilitates synchronization of a database, such as a message database of a portable device. Synchronization is initiated at the device by the generating and transmitting of a plurality of synchronization requests, with each synchronization request requesting synchronization data of an increased synchronization depth. Synchronization operations are carried out using synchronization data returned responsive to the synchronization requests.

Abstract: Relevant items are selected from personalized items included in a variety of social networking system feeds based on a relevance threshold. Content included in the received items is observed to facilitate grouping the items. Items satisfying a grouping criteria are grouped based on the content of the items. Items are then scored based on relevance factors, such as whether an item is included in the group or an indication of interest level associated with items in a group. Scored items meeting a relevance threshold are selected for display in an aggregated social feed in a content region of a page.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are presented for: receiving a search query, comprising a query select statement and a plurality of search terms; generating a plurality of selection models based on the query select statement and the plurality of search terms, wherein each selection model, from the plurality of selection models, comprises a unique combination of one or more terms, from the plurality of search terms, that is not present in other selection models, from the plurality of selection models. A plurality of particular selection results is obtained for a particular selection model for each particular selection model, from the plurality of models. The plurality of particular selection results are grouped to a final result and aggregated according to the selection models, and the aggregated final result is presented to a user.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to occasions when a sender wishes to submit a file to a web server or the like with assurance the file will be temporarily posted and then systematically deleted in a secure manner, where it would not be possible for others to recover the file or data associated with the file, such as information that can be used to identify the sender. The disclosure includes, for example, a computerized system for temporarily storing files, including at least one computer. The computer may be configured to receive a file, store the file, allow the file to be accessed over a network, and securely delete the file when a rule defining when the file is to be securely deleted has been satisfied.

Abstract: Systems and methods for distributed data annotation in accordance embodiments of the invention are disclosed. In one embodiment of the invention, a distributed data annotation server system includes a storage device configured to store source data, one or more annotators, annotation tasks and a processor, wherein a distributed data annotation application configures the processor to receive source data including one or more pieces of source data, select one or more annotators, create one or more annotation tasks for the selected annotators and source data, request one or more annotations for the source data using the annotation tasks, receive annotations, determine source data metadata for at least one piece of source data using the received annotations, generate annotator metadata for at least one annotator using the received annotations and the source data, and estimate the ground truth for the source data using the source data metadata and the annotator metadata.

Abstract: A system and method for efficient inode enumeration is disclosed. The system and method for enumerating inodes, comprises locating one or more inode files associated with the file system. For each of the one or more inode files, determining a physical address range for each inode within the inode file. The system and method further comprises creating a list of the physical address range for each of the inodes within the one or more inode files. The system and method comprises sorting the list based on physical addresses of the inodes.

Abstract: A multimedia sharing apparatus uses a copy of a metadata database of a portable terminal for copying the metadata database stored in a server. The multimedia sharing apparatus stores the copied metadata database in the portable terminal, and reduces an overhead using the stored metadata database when a user searches data. A multimedia sharing method includes requesting a server to transmit a metadata database at a portable terminal, receiving access information capable of accessing the metadata database of the server at the portable terminal from the server, and reading the metadata database of the server at the portable terminal using the access information.

Abstract: On a handheld device, a user enters new contact information to create a new contact entry, and a time stamp and geographic location are automatically added to the new contact entry. Therefore, when the user later views that contact entry, the location and time when the user gathered that contact information is noted. This can assist the user in identifying the particular individual represented by the contact entry.

Abstract: Enhanced computer- and network-based methods, techniques, and systems for an enhanced file server that provides search and recommendations “in-band” as part of a request to the file server are provided. Example embodiments provide a Enhanced File Server (“EFS”), which enables file servers and the like, to search for and/or to recommend information (e.g., content, data, or the like) based upon a file request to the file server. This enables a user of the EFS to avoid the use of a separate search or recommendation system, such as a search engine, to find information. An Enhanced File Server implements its own search and recommendation capabilities and allows users to search for and obtain recommendations for information through its standard file-access mechanisms. Searches and requests for recommendations are performed using especially constructed file names The EFS may present results to the user using synthesized content.

Abstract: Techniques for distributing information over a network having a database in data communication with said network include a method that records in the database a plurality of computer readable profiles. Each computer readable profile corresponds to one of multiple users of the network. One of the computer readable files includes a query term that is associated with it. Generated on a common user interface are both perceivable stimuli in response to activity on said network of users corresponding to subgroup of the plurality of computer readable profiles, and information corresponding to computer readable profiles of the subgroup. The corresponding users of the subgroup possess knowledge related to the query term. A region of the user interface in which the perceivable stimuli is present defines an activity stream region. A region of the user interface in which said information is present defines a connections region of the user interface.

Abstract: A system and computer implemented method are provided. The method comprises maintaining a database of patent portfolios and a database of patents, with each patent stored in the database of patents being associated with one or more patent portfolios stored in the database of patent portfolios. The method includes receiving a search query associated with a first patent portfolio; searching the first portfolio as a function of the search query; generating a seed set of search results including one or more patent claims associated with the search query, the patent claims including terms from the search query; automatically generating an expanded set of search results including one or more patent claims further associated with the search query or associated with the patent claims in the seed set of search results; and mapping the one or more patent claims to a patent concept.
