Analog-to-digital Or Digital-to-analog Patents (Class 710/69)
  • Patent number: 8276007
Abstract: A processor includes analog signal input ports, an A/D conversion unit, and an ALU in a stage subsequent to the A/D conversion unit, separately from a CPU. The ALU not only stores a comparison result in a RAM independently of the CPU, but also compares an output value of the A/D conversion unit with a reference value set in the RAM, and interrupts the CPU or issues a command to a PWM generator in accordance with a flag based on the comparison result. This realizes high-speed processing in accordance with a change in an analog signal, although the processor has a low cost and a low clock frequency overall.

  • Patent number: 8275918
Abstract: An environmental condition monitor (200) configured for simple upgrade from analog signal output to any of a plurality of digital communication protocols. A display board (202) includes the analog signal acquisition and processing elements of the device and also includes a pre-positioned but initially inoperative digital communication output connector (214). A connector board (204) associated with the display board includes a connector (212) to which any one of a plurality of digital communication boards (210) may be selectively connected, depending upon which of a plurality of digital communication protocols is desired. Selective connection of a digital communication board completes a circuit whereby an analog output signal is converted to the desired digital output format and is then communicated back to the now-activated digital communication output connector (214).

  • Publication number: 20120159020
Abstract: There is a need to cause a delay to occur less frequently than the related art during processing of an input signal in need of relatively fast processing. In a semiconductor device, a conversion portion includes first channels and second channels and A/D converts a signal input to a selected channel. A signal input to the first channel requires faster processing than a signal input to the second channel. The conversion portion receives a scan conversion instruction from a central processing unit, sequentially selects the input channels in a specified selection order, and successively performs A/D conversion. In this case, the conversion portion notifies a peripheral circuit of completion of A/D conversion after completion of A/D conversion on signals input to the first channels and before completion of A/D conversion on input signals input to all input channels.

  • Patent number: 8095712
Abstract: A method and apparatus to read information from an information storage medium using a read channel, where that read channel includes a data cache. The invention generates an analog waveform comprising the information, and provides that analog waveform to a read channel, and generates a digital signal from that analog waveform using one or more first operating parameters. The method error corrects that digital signal at an actual error correction rate, and determines if the actual error correction rate is greater than an error correction rate threshold. If the actual error correction rate exceeds the error correction rate threshold, then the method captures the digital signal, stores that captured data in a data cache, reads that digital signal from the cache, generates one or more second operating parameters, and provides those one or more second operating parameters to the read channel.

  • Patent number: 7783795
Abstract: A serial communication circuit for performing full duplex serial communication with a microcomputer includes a counter and a timer. The counter is incremented by each pulse of a serial clock signal output from the microcomputer. When the counter reaches the number of bits of serial data output from the microcomputer, the counter outputs a load signal to a receiving register. The timer starts to count after the counter outputs the receiving load signal for the first time and continues to count during the serial communication. The timer expires at a predetermined time interval. Each time the timer expires, the timer outputs a timer signal. In response to the timer signal, a synchronous signal is output to the microcomputer, the counter is cleared to zero, and data to be output to the microcomputer is loaded into a sending register.

Abstract: A command conversion device 14 is connected between an amplifier device 11 and a portable player 13. The amplifier device 11 sends/receives a plurality of types of first commands corresponding to a plurality of types of devices (e.g., CD players, MD recorders, tape recorders, etc.), and performs an operation based on a received first command. The portable player 13 sends/receives a second command, and performs an operation based on a received second command. The command conversion device 14 includes a selector for selecting a type of a first command, and a converter. When a first command of the type selected by the selector is received from the amplifier device 11, the converter converts the received first command into a second command, and sends the second command to the portable player 13.

Abstract: Methods and systems for communicating information through a USB device with A/D converters are presented. Active components which provide analog signals to the A/D converters are switched off to cause spikes in the analog signals/channels. The spikes are digitized by the A/D converters and sent to the host through a USB interface. The active components are switched on and off in a pattern corresponding to a message, such that the host can determine the message from the resulting spikes. If multiple active components and A/D converters are used, then multiple ‘bits’ can be transmitted simultaneously using the different channels.

In an illustrative embodiment, video data of a monitored population is received and processed to form digital video data. The digital video data includes metadata describing glancing patterns associated with one or more subjects from the monitored population. The digital video is analyzed to identify a set of furtive glance patterns from the glancing patterns. One or more furtive glance attributes for the set of furtive glance cohorts are selected from the set of furtive glance patterns. Thereafter, the set of furtive glance cohorts is generated. The set of furtive glance cohorts have members selected from the monitored population and have at least one furtive glance attribute in common.

  • Patent number: RE41343
Abstract: Monitoring a converter (1) includes detecting whether a value of an input variable (2) for the converter (1) assumes a first prescribed input reference value (41) and checking whether an output variable (3) from the converter (1) likewise assumes a corresponding, second prescribed output reference value (61). This means that the operation of the converter is tested only at occasional instants, specifically only using individual, prescribed values. The fact that only prescribed values (41, 61) are compared with instantaneous values of the input and output variables (2, 3) means that the invention can be implemented using very simple means. The method is particularly suitable for monitoring the operation of a converter (1) in a control or protective device for an electrical switchgear assembly. In this context, when a malfunction in the converter (1) is detected, all protective functions which are dependent on the converter (1) are preferably turned off.
