Abstract: A smart card comprises a storage unit in which various data are stored, a communication unit to perform data communication with an external apparatus, and a processing unit which executes processing corresponding to a command received via the communication unit. The processing unit of the smart card detects data judged to have data abnormality from the data stored in the storage unit in a case where the command received from the external apparatus is an abnormal data confirmation command, and notifies the external apparatus of response data including information indicating the data in which the data abnormality has been detected by the detection.

Abstract: A control apparatus controls a device to which the control apparatus is connected. The control apparatus includes a storing unit and a linking unit. The storing unit stores an error message that contains information on a failed component in a storage device upon receiving the error message from the device. The linking unit stores the error message and information on a replacement component, which has been installed in the device in place of the failed component, in the storage device in association with each other upon receiving the information on the replacement component.

Abstract: A program delivery control system includes: a storage section that stores a playlist indicating a play order of items forming a program; an apparatus control section that controls an apparatus on the basis of the playlist stored in the storage section and that causes the storage section to store error information sent from the apparatus in correlation with the apparatus that issued the error information; and a playlist display control section that performs control so as to display the playlist stored in the storage section on a screen with an item being played indicated as such and, in a case where the error information is stored, with an item for which the apparatus that issued the error information is necessary provided with an error indication.

Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, an edge device having a controller to receive a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) message from a user endpoint device (UE) requesting communication services, forward the SIP message to a network element of a Server Office, receive from the network element a first error message indicating communication services at the Server Office are unavailable, replace the first error message with a second error message, the second error message indicating a temporary unavailability of communication services, and transmit the second error message to the UE. Abstract: In some embodiments, the invention involves a system and method for the generation and use of a compact crash dump that can be viewed and/or captured as a two-dimensional (2-D) high contrast graphical barcode. When an error is detected, machine context and other relevant information is formatted for entry to a barcode generator unit. The a barcode generator unit received formatted text or codes, and outputs a 2-D barcode for visible capture. The barcode image is ultimately transformed into an electronic image which may be sent to an error reporting site, or individual. The error reporting site uses a decoding unit to decode the high contrast graphical image of the 2-D barcode. The resulting decoded information provides an analyst, or automated system with information relevant to debugging the error. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: A system and method for automatically deploying a network design is provided. Design deployment may be automated by a system that receives a machine-readable network design as an input, validates design topology requirements, and automatically deploys the design over actual hardware elements without manual intervention. Thus, the system and method provided may eliminate errors and streamline network design deployment, which may be particularly useful in a network characterized by a complex design, which may be difficult and tedious to configure manually.

Abstract: The invention provides a method for managing writing errors for a nonvolatile memory. In one embodiment, the nonvolatile memory is coupled to a controller. First, data received from the controller is stored in a data register of the nonvolatile memory. The data stored in the data register is then written to a first memory space with a first write address according to instructions from the controller. The data stored in the data register is kept from being changed after the data is written to the first write address. When an error occurs in writing of the data to the first memory space, a rewrite command is sent from the controller to the nonvolatile memory. After the nonvolatile memory receives the rewrite command, the data stored in the data register is written to a second memory space with a second write address according to the rewrite command.

Abstract: The illustrative embodiments described herein provide a computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer program product for managing a batch production system. In an illustrative embodiment, an application forecast is generated for a set of batch jobs in a critical path of a batch application. The application forecast comprises a sum of execution times for the batch jobs in the critical path. In response to detecting an abend from production data generated during the execution of the batch application, the abend is mapped against known abends in an abend database to identify a set of abend solutions. Thereafter, a notification is generated which comprises at least one of a status of the batch application and the set of abend solutions, wherein the status is generated based on the application forecast.

Abstract: A method for validating SRS registry transaction data includes receiving OLTP transaction data from a first database, parsing the OLTP transaction data, and comparing the parsed OLTP transaction data to one or more of a set of profiles. Each of the one or more of the set of profiles includes metadata in XML files. The method also includes caching the parsed OLTP transaction data in a first data cache, receiving log data associated with the OLTP transaction data; and caching the log data in a second data cache. The method further includes correlating the parsed transaction data cached in the first data cache with the log data cached in the second data cache.

Abstract: An error message handling buffer comprises a first buffer and a second buffer. A first index is associated with the first buffer and a second index is associated with the second buffer. A buffer controller is operable to write and read messages in the buffer, such that messages are written to the buffer of the first and second buffers that has a buffer index value lesser than the buffer size, and read from the other of the first and second buffers, the other buffer having an index value greater than or equal to the buffer size.

Abstract: A method of exchanging messages, which are intended for streaming connection with a source device, in a sink device of a wireless network comprises transmitting a connect request message for data streaming to the source device; receiving a connect response message from the source device, the connect response message including connection information indicating the possibility of connection with the source device; and outputting a user interface indicating at least one of the connection information included in the connect response message and wait time information required for connection with the source device, on a display module.

Abstract: Provided is a CAN system that can generate an error signal without requiring hardware for generating an error signal to be connected to a bus. A protocol processing part within a CAN controller incorporates error data into receive data or send data, based on error data information stored in a register.

Abstract: Failure analysis method and apparatus using failure rate data in coordination with the power on hours to more efficiently resolve computer system failures without occupying system memory or processor bandwidth. In response to a system failure, a baseboard management controller (BMC) notes the time of failure and the elapsed operating time of system components. In response to a failure of the computer system, the BMC accesses industry standard failure rate data correlating the elapsed operating time with the probability of failure for each component. By cross-referencing the time of failure with the failure rate data, the BMC automatically determines the probability of failure of each component at the time of failure of the computer system. The BMC generates a component replacement list identifying the component that currently has the highest probability of failure.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus that instructs a compiler server to build or otherwise obtain a compiled code corresponding to a compilation request received from an application are described. The compiler server may be configured to compile source codes for a plurality of independent applications, each running in a separate process, using a plurality of independent compilers, each running in a separate compiler process. A search may be performed in a cache for a compiled code that satisfies a compilation request received from an application. A reply message including the compiled code can be provided for the application, wherein the compiled code is compiled in direct response to the request, or is obtained from the cache if the search identifies in the cache the compiled code that satisfies the compilation request.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for detecting and reporting malfunctions in computer programs is described. A malfunction detector detects at least one type of a software malfunction as defined in a configurable malfunction library. A data collector collects data of the software malfunction. A crash reporter reports the crash report in a manner specified in a configurable reporting library corresponding to the type of software malfunction to one or more remote computers.

Abstract: A software module capable of simultaneously supporting multiple services provides log message throttling for each service with a separate “per service” log message buffer. When the software module is a device driver, for example, each device controlled by the device driver is allocated a message buffer to store descriptive log messages. Upon generation of a warning log message, descriptive log messages in the message buffer are flushed to a log file for review by an administrator. Furthermore, log message throttling may be implemented by only flushing the message buffer upon certain occurrences of warning log messages, such as in accordance with an exponential back-off algorithm.

In one embodiment, the HVAC controller includes: (1) a power on reset (POR) register configured to indicate if a POR has occurred for said controller, (2) a non-volatile memory having a first reset code section and a second reset code section, wherein said first and second reset code sections are each configured to store a reset code and (3) a processor configured to deduce when a source of a reset for said controller is a watchdog reset based on content of said POR register, said first reset code section and said second reset code section.

Abstract: The present principles provide new tools (i.e., applications) for use in authoring Blu-Ray Discs and other media which, when used in conjunction with BD-Jive Player, the author can provide any required additional information using a user interface (UI) that does not require XML or Java coding. The user interface (UI) allows the author to express the information more generally (i.e., without having knowledge of Java coding or XML) and then the authoring tools produces the relevant XML file and Java code, as needed.

Abstract: The invention relates to an invention for the central monitoring of the operation of automated banking machines (ATM). The operating signals from actuators (31) and sensors (32) of an automated banking machine (ATM) are used to assemble operating characteristics of the actuators (31) and sensors (32) into data records from operating signal patterns (by time segments. These data records are transmitted from the automated banking machine (ATM) to a central monitoring device (20) in which the operating signal patterns are compared with operating signal patterns from corresponding earlier time segments. A trend toward a change in operating characteristics can be ascertained for the respective actuator (31) or sensor (32), which trend can be used for early replacement of said actuator or sensor.

Abstract: A method is provided for validating advertising metrics which relate to tracking of interactive events performed by electronic devices. A metric report with an event code that indicative of at least one interactive event performed by an electronic device associated with the network is received. The format of the event code is analyzed to determine whether the event code is consistent with predetermined format rules and the substance of information conveyed by the event code is analyzed to determine whether the event code is consistent with predetermined substance rules. If the event code is determined to be consistent with the predetermined format rules and the predetermined substance rules, the event code is accepted as valid. Otherwise, the event code is identified as being invalid.

For example, various embodiments of the present invention provide methods for adaptive equalization that include providing a data processing system with an equalizer circuit (210) and a target filter circuit (265). The equalizer circuit performs equalization based at least in part on an equalizer coefficient (215). The methods further include generating an error (285) based upon a first output from the equalizer circuit and a second output from the target filter circuit. An inter-symbol interference component (295) is extracted from the error (285) and used to calculate an equalizer gradient (226). Based at least in part on the equalizer gradient (226), the equalizer coefficient (215) is calculated.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for train control utilizing virtual lock stepping are disclosed. In accordance with the illustrative embodiment, an improved method of train control utilizes identical software applications executing on redundant processors. The redundant processors are maintained in virtual lock step to ensure the safety integrity of the overall system being controlled. In accordance with the illustrative embodiment, one software process is a master and one software process is a slave. The master and the slave both independently execute application logic based upon detected events (e.g., input data, etc.). In order to ensure that any anomalies that might result in a hazard are detected in the timeliest manner, and that false anomalies are minimized, the redundant software processes must process the same event within a specified time frame.

Abstract: The embodiments presented herein provide systems, methods, and data structures for troubleshooting particular SOAP-based web service process flow. The SOAP request can be modified to include a diagnostic request in the SOAP request. Upon receiving the SOAP request, the application server can log actions related to the SOAP-based web service into the header of the SOAP response. The application server can complete the SOAP-based web service and send the SOAP response to the user. The user can then be presented with the logging in the header to facilitate the diagnosis of problems with the web service. Without causing unneeded logging at the application server, the present embodiments allow a user to diagnose and test web services.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer programs are provided for smart interfaces that shift the burden of cognition from a user to a computer system. More particularly, a method is presented for using a computer system to interpret data. The method includes an operation for accepting data from a data entry field of the user interface, where the data is provided to the data entry field in a selected format. The selected format is different from a common data format expected by the user interface. In another operation, the accepted data is normalized to conform to the common data format expected by the user interface. This normalization is based on information about one or more of a geographic location of the user, a geographic location of a server, and a geographic location of a product being used. Further, the method includes an operation for providing the normalized data in the common data format.

Abstract: Various methods for written mathematical expression analysis are provided. One method may include receiving written input where the written input is representative of a mathematical expression. The method may also include analyzing the written input to identify at least one operator and at least one operand and constructing an expression tree based at least in part on predefined symbol relationships, the at least one operator, and the at least one operand. Similar apparatuses and computer program products are also provided.

Detecting cessation of an always-on persistent network connection between the SMA controller and the server is also provided. Reporting the cessation of the network connection to an end user and defined others is further provided. A further aspect provides for automatically reporting an alarm event to a central station, the end user, and others, in the event the cessation of the network connection occurs while the SMA controller is armed and after a zone fault event, and not receiving a disarm notification prior to expiration of a preset entry delay.

The method also comprises validating the content data and the display identifier, and upon successful validation, transmitting the content data through an Internet Protocol (IP) based network to at least one display device associated with the display identifier for display thereon.

Abstract: Certain example embodiments disclosed herein relate to online survey systems and/or methods. In certain example embodiments, the questions to be asked are substantially insulated from an application that asks the questions. This abstraction may be accomplished in certain example embodiments by dynamically generating a computer-accessible (e.g., web-based) survey from one or more definition files. For example, a survey may be defined via a response definition file and a user interface definition file, thereby enabling the definition files to be read and the survey to be presented with the appropriate questions, validations, and transformations being specified by the response definition file, and with the look and feel being specified by the user interface definition file. Answers to questions may be persisted for a respondent in a storage location remote from the respondent. Such online surveys systems and/or methods may be suitable for census-related activities.

Abstract: A method and a device for acquiring media stream information are provided. The method includes the following steps. A media gateway controller (MGC) sends to a media gateway (MG) a command request for acquiring media stream information, where the command request carries property parameters corresponding to the desired media stream information. The MGC receives a corresponding command reply returned from the MG, and acquires the desired media stream information from the corresponding property parameters carried in the command reply. Therefore, the MGC is enabled to acquire from the MG the media stream information, and synchronization between media contents is realized.

Abstract: A method, device and system for managing resources in networks are provided, which relate to the field of data communication. The method includes the following steps. A resource manager (RM) sends a first request message according to a received resource request message, to request an access node (AN) to perform admission control. After receiving an admission control result indicating whether a resource requested by the resource request message is admitted, the RM sends a response message of the resource request message. Therefore, when multicast/unicast connection admission control (CAC) that supports shared bandwidth is realized, flow fusions of user line configuration between the AN and a broadband remote access system (BRAS, and policy distribution between a resource and admission control subsystem (RACS) and the BRAS are guaranteed; and sharing of bandwidth resources is realized to avoid waste of the bandwidth resources.

Abstract: A method of validating a configuration of a computer clusters includes transmitting a first neighbor identification to a first flexible service processor (FSP) arranged in the first computer cluster and a second neighbor identification to a second FSP arranged in the second computer cluster, connecting a first end of a cable to a first transceiver arranged in the first cluster and connecting a second end of the cable to a second transceiver arranged in the second cluster. The first neighbor identification is passed from the first transceiver to the second computer cluster and the second neighbor identification is passed from the second transceiver toward the first computer cluster. The first neighbor identification is compared with a desired first neighbor identification to establish a first comparison result, and the second neighbor identification is compared with a desired second neighbor identification to establish a second comparison result and a notice is generated.

Abstract: Storage Systems in the IT system provide information of the status of its components to the System Monitoring Server. System Monitoring Server calculates storage availability of storage systems based on information using failure rates of the components, and determines whether the volumes of the storage system should be migrated based on a predetermined policy. If migration is required, System Monitoring Server selects the target storage system based on storage availability of storage systems, and requests migration to be performed.

Abstract: A method of validating multi-cluster computer interconnects includes calculating a cable interconnect table associated with the multi-cluster computer, and distributing the cable interconnect table to a first transceiver in the first computer cluster and a second transceiver in the second computer cluster. The method also includes connecting a first end of a cable to the first transceiver and a second end of the cable to the second transceiver, transmitting a first neighbor identification from the first cluster to the second cluster, and a second neighbor identification from the second cluster to the first cluster, comparing the first neighbor identification with a desired first neighbor identification from the cable interconnect table to establish a first comparison result and the second neighbor identification with a desired second identification from the cable interconnect table to establish a second comparison result, and generating an alert based on the first and second comparison results.

Abstract: A system and method for tunneling system error handling between communications systems are provided. A method for error handling by a controller in an interworking system includes receiving a notification of an occurrence of an error in a first communications system, determining if the error is a long-term error, causing a device in a second communications system with a session in the first communications system to halt communications with the first communications system if the error is a long-term error, and not causing the device in the second communications system with the session in the first communications system to halt communications with the first communications system if the error is not a long-term error.

Abstract: Method and application server for providing an asynchronous error notification from an application server to an application server controller in a network is provided. The method at the application server includes generating an error message when an error occurs at/during Open Service Gateway initiative (OSGi) framework runtime. The method also includes converting the error message as a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) event. Moreover, the method includes providing the UPnP event comprising error information to the application server controller. The application server includes a receiver configured to receive a command from an application server controller to install an application in an Open Service Gateway initiative (OSGi) framework available at the application server. The application server also includes a processor configured to generate an error message when an error occurs during installation of the application in the framework and convert the error message as a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) event.

Abstract: There is provided an image forming apparatus which adopts a distributed control system and increases the error detection accuracy of each control unit. To accomplish this, the image forming apparatus includes a master control unit that controls the overall image forming apparatus, a plurality of sub-master control units that control a plurality of functions for performing image formation, and a plurality of salve control units that control loads for implementing a plurality of functions. The master control unit determines a diagnosis path for performing a diagnosis process for an error using the signal lines and connection bridge connected to the respective control units. The master control unit performs the diagnosis process for an error in accordance with the determined diagnosis path.

Abstract: In a particular embodiment, a data storage device is disclosed that can include a data storage medium having a device failure partition including a device failure log to store operational state information. The operational state information can include commands, data, performance data, and environmental data associated with the data storage device. The data storage device can further include a controller adapted to selectively store the operational state information to the device failure log in a first-in first-out (FIFO) order representing recent states of the data storage device.

Abstract: A method of providing instructions to a user of an imaging device includes generating a three-dimensional (3D) model of the imaging device in a 3D computer generated environment. At least one computer generated imagery (CGI) instruction sequence is then rendered from the 3D model. The CGI instruction sequence depicts at least one action being performed on the imaging device and is rendered from a virtual viewpoint corresponding to a viewpoint of a user physically performing the at least one action. The rendered CGI instructions are stored in memory of the imaging device and selectively displayed on a user interface display screen of the imaging device.

Abstract: A method for using a message service for communication in a content distribution environment includes soliciting a response from a user where the user is instructed to respond using a message service and an advertised point of contact. In response to a received message, an action associated with the received message is initiated and the location for execution of the initiated action is identified using the point of contact information communicated by the user. In circumstances in which shoppers have text-message enabled cell phones, a shopper can be solicited, in a display presenting content, to text a message to an identified point of contact for additional related content. A play-out system can then play the requested additional content on a display in close proximity to the shopper, where the display is identified using the point of contact information communicated by the user in the message.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for failure notification are provided. The method includes: sending, when it is detected that a failure occurs in a multicast label switch path, failure information to a downstream node of a multicast tree where a failed point locates, where the multicast label switch path is established based on a multicast label distribution protocol; and forwarding the failure information through the downstream node, where the failure information arrives at a leaf node of the multicast tree where the failed point locates. According to the method and the apparatus for failure notification of the present invention, finally, the failure information is transmitted to a leaf node. After the failure information is obtained, the leaf node may take appropriate measure to ensure the normal service and improve the reliability of the network.

Abstract: A method for operating an electronic device that is supplied with electric power by a continuous energy accumulator. A predetermined ending of the first program is monitored in a program step by a second program. If the first program is not switched off as predetermined, the second program generates an error message which is displayed immediately when the device is switched on again.
