Abstract: The transmitting apparatus includes an encoder creating an encoded content signal by encoding the content, a generator generating sign language word identification information corresponding to chronologically-ordered sign language words appearing in a speech in the content, a creating unit creating control information containing the generated chronologically-ordered sign language word identification information, a storage unit storing sign language word images for displaying a sign language video corresponding to the sign language words by grouping the sign language word images into a plurality of modules according to a frequency of appearance of the sign language words in the speech in the content, a multiplexer creating a data stream by combining the encoded content signal with the control information and by repeatedly replicating the plurality of modules at a frequency corresponding to the frequency of appearance, and a transmitter transmitting the created data stream.

Abstract: A system and method is described that permits synchronization of a transcript with an audio/video stream of a webcast. The system also permits a user to perform a search of the transcript and then to jump in the webcast audio/video stream to the point identified during the search.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media that may be used to present messages posted on messaging networks to a user in a time-shifted manner are provided. One method includes transmitting a request to a server to provide messages posted by users of one or more messaging services. Each of the messages has a timestamp associated therewith that falls within a time range associated with the request. The timestamp is based on a time at which the message was originally posted. The method further includes receiving the messages from the server. The method further includes correlating, for each of the messages, the time at which the message was originally posted with a time in the time range associated with the request. The times are correlated based on the timestamp of the respective message. The method further includes transmitting, to one or more display devices, display data representing the messages.

Abstract: Text input is corrected on a touch-sensitive display by presenting a list of candidate words in the interface which can be selected by touch input. The candidate list can include candidate words having two or more character types (e.g., Roman, kana, kanji). In one aspect, the candidate list can be scrolled using a finger gesture. When a user's finger traverses a candidate word and the touch is released, the candidate word is inserted into a document being edited. In another aspect, characters can be erased by touching a key (e.g., a backspace or delete key) and making a sliding, swiping, or other finger gesture. A number of characters proportional to a distance (e.g., a linear distance) of the finger gesture across the display are erased. If there are characters in a text input area, those characters are erased first, followed by characters in the document being edited.

Abstract: An arrangement is provided where all applications in an interactive media environment run on a single application thread in a media player. Event queues are utilized to schedule the application thread's processing of workitems corresponding to events that occur in the environment. Workitems include methods to be invoked when the workitem is processed and arguments for the method. Workitems further include a begin time and an end time and are ordered in the event queue first by begin time followed by the order in which they were inserted into the queue. The application thread marks workitems whose begin times corresponds to the current or previous time and then processes marked workitems from the queue in order. Such processing is committed so that once the application thread begins processing of a workitem it does not stop. Workitems are dropped from the event queue if their end times have been passed.

Abstract: A system may identify a workflow associated with a graphical model and execute the workflow in a number of stages. The system may display a number of components of the graphical model and identify which of the displayed components are associated with or affected by execution of a current one of the stages of the workflow.

Abstract: Provided is an apparatus and method for synchronizing content with data that may extract content feature information of the content, and control synchronization by comparing the content feature information and data feature information described in the data.

Abstract: A system for providing an interactive look-and-feel in a digital video broadcast via an X-Y protocol is provided. At a head-end, video information is digitized and associated with private data, such as event identifications, X-Y coordinates, link event identification and synchronization data. This information is then transmitted to a receiving end and is input into a set-top box. The set-top box receives the broadcast digital signal and includes a member for receiving the broadcast digital signal and generating a playable signal including indicia of the link data. The playable signal is then played on a playing device. The user is provided with a remote control or similar input device for selecting from the indicia. Upon selection of a desired indicia, the user may exercise the predetermined link associated with the selected indicia in order to obtain the desired playable signal.

Abstract: Generally described, a content alignment service may generate content synchronization information to facilitate the synchronous presentation of corresponding audio content and textual content. In some embodiments, portions of body text (as opposed to front matter, such as a table of contents; or back matter, such as an index) in the textual content are identified and synchronized with corresponding audio content. In one example application, an audiobook may be synchronized with an electronic book. As the body text portions of the electronic book are consumed, corresponding words of the audiobook may be audibly presented.

Abstract: A system and method for receiving, categorizing, arranging and displaying information is provided, wherein the method includes creating a database, wherein the database is governed by a database taxonomy defined by a user, introducing information into the database and generating classified information by classifying the information objects based on the database taxonomy, where the classified information objects includes information object metadata and an information taxonomy. The invention further includes assembling a virtual information package file responsive to the classified information objects, wherein the binder file includes links to the classified information objects in the database and providing a taxonomy and process to manage, edit, manipulate and distribute virtual information packages from a one or more collections of virtual information packages publishing the virtual information package file in the desired electronic document format.

Abstract: An application for electronic devices through which users can synchronize custom sound recordings and sound scores with eBooks. The application allows a computer to receive audio reference lists; values representing how similar users are to each other based on various factors; and a structural representation of an eBook. The application then tracks a first user's position in the eBook, synchronizing the relative position with the structural representation of the eBook, and determining if the first user's position has progressed to a specific point. If the first user has reached the specific point, the application suggests audio that was previously synchronized by other users with the point, and the application orders the suggestions based on the similarity between the first user and a previous user that created a suggested sound score. The first user can then associate a presented audio with the point.

Abstract: A system for displaying the listings of files and/or folders in one of a plurality of different views (e.g., gallery view or list view). In particular embodiments, the system determines which of the views to display in the listings in based on: (1) the types of files to be displayed; (2) a specified preference of a content sharer; and/or (3) a specified preference of a content recipient. Various embodiments are particularly useful for displaying lists of files that a content sharer shares with a content recipient via a URL within the context of a synched file sharing system.

Abstract: A user interface tag for use in processing a service on a scannable document is provided. A printable surface is on one side of the scannable document and an adhesive surface is on another side of the scannable document. The printable surface further includes a printed data field specified substantially within the printable surface, including machine-readable marks of digital data encoding a service code and a user identification number; and a printed rectilinear border surrounding the printed data field to define a rectilinear iconic representation. A scanned representation of the machine-readable marks is located by identifying the printed rectilinear border using corner candidates oriented in diametric opposition from among connected components identified on the document and the scanned representation of the machine-readable marks are decoded from the rectilinear iconic representation to specify the user identification number and the service code.

Abstract: Intuitive and user-friendly user interface (UI) techniques are provided for navigating street view applications on a mobile device enabling users to view different angles and segments of available street level images. Additionally, retrieval and presentation of street view images are managed to mitigate delays in retrieval of desired images from a server over wireless connections through techniques such as textual representations, replacement views, scheduling image requests, and comparable ones.

Abstract: A user interface tag for use in processing a document is provided. A printable surface is on one side of a document and an adhesive surface is on an other side of the document. The printable surface further includes a printed data field, including machine-readable marks of digital data encoding a service and a user identity; and a printed border surrounding the printed data field to define an iconic representation. A scanned representation of the machine-readable marks is decoded from the iconic representation to specify the user identity and the service.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for delivering content customized to the specific user or users interacting with the system. The system includes one or more modules for recognizing an identity of a user. These modules may include for example a gesture recognition engine, a facial recognition engine, a body language recognition engine and a voice recognition engine. The user may also be carrying a mobile device such as a smart phone which identifies the user. One or more of these modules may cooperate to identify a user, and then customize the user's content based on the user's identity. In particular, the system receives user preferences indicating the content a user wishes to receive and the conditions under which it is to be received. Based on the user preferences and recognition of a user identity and/or other traits, the system presents content customized for a particular user.

Abstract: The disclosure is directed to an access terminal. The access terminal includes a display configured to enable a user to view a presentation having content, and a processing component configured to receive the presentation and select an advertisement to insert into the content of the presentation before the presentation is provided to the display for viewing by the user.

Abstract: A system for delivering advertisement units that interact with each other on a webpage is disclosed. The system includes a web browser, a web server, and an advertisement server. The web browser is configured to generate a request for a webpage. The web server is communicatively connected to the web browser and is configured to receive the request for a webpage from the web browser and send the requested webpage to the browser in response to the request. The webpage includes an ad unit request script that is configured to direct the web browser to generate a request for an advertisement unit. The advertisement server is communicatively connected to the web browser and the web server. The advertisement server is configured to receive advertisement unit requests and send a first ad unit and a second ad unit to the web browser in response to those requests. The first and second ad units are rendered by the web browser onto the webpage.

Abstract: Techniques for digital document audio and user interface enhancement are generally described herein. In one embodiment, for example, an apparatus may comprise a processor circuit and a digital document application operative on the processor circuit. The digital document application may comprise a document recorder component arranged for execution by the processor circuit to receive a source document file and generate an annotated document file, the document recorder component arranged to retrieve a text element from the source document file, generate a user interface view with the text element and an audio narration guide proximate to the text element for presentation on an output device, receive positions of an object on the audio narration guide from an input device, and generate an audio element for the text element based on the positions. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: The approaches of the present disclosure provide for the efficient technology of intelligent association of still images with contextual information relating to sounds such as a sound that may have been ambient when a still image was captured. In particular, a user may use a media device, such as a smart phone or tablet computer, to capture a still image and record first audio, for example, at the time of capturing the still image for a predetermined period of time. The first audio may be then processed and analyzed so as to recognize a particular song or melody, and then a high quality second audio related to the recognized song or melody is downloaded and associated with the still image. Accordingly, the visual nature of still images is enhanced with data relating to contextual auditory information, which boosts the sensory and memory experience for the user.

Abstract: A method for automatic media population of a style presentation comprises collecting presentation media; positioning the collected presentation media on a storyboard; and selecting a style presentation; wherein the selection of the style presentation results in the automatic population of the style presentation with the presentation media positioned on the storyboard is described herein.

Abstract: A second sequence of visual information is produced, based on a first sequence of visual information. An XML document is generated, which identifies edits to be made to the first sequence of visual information for producing the second sequence of visual information. The XML document includes an element that corresponds to a cut list. The cut list element includes multiple item elements, which are subordinate to the cut list element within the XML document. The multiple item elements include at least one item element that represents an effect; at least one that represents a cut and/or at least one that represents a gap. The XML document is used to determine how to edit the first sequence of visual information, to produce the second sequence of visual information.

Abstract: For media clips captured by several media recording devices, a novel method for organizing the captured media clips is presented. The method arranges the media clips into sequences according to content data associated with the media clips. The method further analyzes content data of the media clips in each sequence to identify a best candidate media clip from each sequence. The method performs one or more algorithms to determine whether the candidate media clips are related. The algorithms are also used to determine a time offset between the candidate clips. The method then synchronizes the sequences based on the time offset determined by the algorithms.

Abstract: A computer (2) is used to prepare a script (4) of prompts for a media capture device (6) such as a cell phone or a self interview kit. Discrete prompts of the script arc displayed. A camera (14) then captures video clips or other assets with each video clip corresponding to one or more displayed prompt. A clip storage module (18) stores each recorded video clip in a storage unit (20) so as to be related to its corresponding discrete prompts. The clip to prompt relationship provided by the storage module (18) facilitates the editing of the clips into a sequence to produce a complete video presentation or movie. The final video sequence compilation can be performed automatically using the script to define the order of each clip. The automatically edited video sequence may be ordered non-sequentially with respect to the order of the presentation of the discrete prompts.

Abstract: A method and system for converting interactive animated information content for display on handheld or mobile devices is presented. Information content that includes files with frames intended to be sequentially played out for display may be converted into a single frame or a smaller collection of frames for display on a device, so that a user of a device may have access to some of the content contained in the file. A server may receive a request for information content that includes a file with frames for playout, and the server will playout the file in an accelerated manner so as to arrive at one or more selected frames quickly. The server will then send the selected frames, or intermediary frames reached during playout, to a client device that requested the web page, for example.

Abstract: An electronic book is provided with a soundtrack, to which a reader can listen while reading the electronic book. Playback of the soundtrack is synchronized with the visual display of the electronic book. Audio cues are associated with different points in the text and these cues are dynamically played back in synchronization with the visual display of the electronic book based on the interaction of the user with the electronic book. The dynamic playback involves editing and playing an audio cue so that it has a duration that is based on a prediction of the duration of the portion of the electronic book with which the cue is synchronized. When the system starts playing an audio cue, it predicts when the next audio cue should start. The current cue is played for predicted duration and a transition to the next audio cue is initiated at an appropriate time.

Abstract: A system and a method manage, control and/or render media in a network. The system utilizes a media management application that manages, controls and/or renders digital media files in the network. A user browses, searches, manages and/or consumes content from multiple storage devices and servers in the network. The user may view a visual representation of active media connections between the available servers and/or the available rendering devices connected to the network.

Abstract: Calendar repair using a standard message may be provided. Calendar events, such as appointments and meetings, may be created and copied to a plurality of attendee calendars. A first copy of the event may be compared to a second copy of the event to determine whether properties between the events are out-of-sync. If so, a standard meeting request message comprising the correct value may be sent to update the out-of-sync property.

Abstract: A method of synchronizing a multimedia content file with an associated text file includes subdividing the text file into one or more samples, where each sample includes zero or more consecutive characters of the text file. The samples are associated with a corresponding contiguous time interval of the multimedia content file. For each sample, a corresponding consumption rate value is determined, which represents a use ratio of characters of the sample within the associated time interval of the multimedia content file. The consumption rate values are then stored, so that they may subsequently be used to compute time positions within the multimedia content file associated with corresponding text characters within the text file. Additional information, such as time cues and interlude intervals, may also be recorded in order to improve the accuracy of synchronization.

Abstract: An update notification method is provided. The method includes taking snapshots of a network resource and capturing specific contents of the network resource. The method also includes comparing specific contents of two consecutive snapshots of the network resource and, if there is a change in the specific contents of the network resource, notifying a user that contents of the network resource have been updated.

Abstract: A system and method for executing digital publications having video files embedded therein. In one embodiment all of the video segments in the electronic publication shares the same video characteristics, e.g., the video codec used to encode to video, the video codec profile used, the encoded resolution, and the encoded hit rate. When the first video in the electronic publication is encountered, the system instantiates a decoder node in memory. The decoder node is not released until the execution of the last video in the electronic publication. In an alternative embodiment of the present invention, the various videos embedded in the document do not all share the same video characteristics. In this embodiment, the present invention creates a “map” of the video content describing the location, e.g., page, and the type of video, i.e., the characteristics.

Abstract: Multimedia content is featured on user pages of an online social network using embed codes that are generated using a configuration file associated with the source ID for the multimedia content and a content ID for the multimedia content. The configuration file, the source ID and the content ID are stored locally by the online social network so that any changes to the embed codes can be made by changing the configuration file associated with the source and regenerating the embed codes. By managing multimedia content in this manner, greater control can be exercised by the online social network over the multimedia content that are featured on its user pages.

Abstract: A content management system (CMS) uses a simulated containment report generation mechanism to generate a simulated containment report for elements in the repository based on logged properties that represent potential use of the element during dynamic content delivery that are not represented in formal relationships in the content management system. Properties such as probability, popularity, and recent usage that are not explicit relationships between parent documents and child elements are logged and used to determine which document maps may potentially reuse a selected element. In this manner a simulated containment report can be created for an element that allows the user to see the document maps that are most likely to include the element.

Abstract: There is provided a method and system to present event information to a user of an electronic messaging and organizing system. An integrated list of individual events is defined to include message-related events (e.g. email, SMS, phone logs, etc.) and time-organization-related events (future or current appointments, alarms). The integrated list is displayed in a graphical user interface on a display of an electronic device to provide a snapshot of the user's activities.

Abstract: A system, method and various user interfaces provide an embedded web-based video player for navigating video playlists and playing video content. A website publisher can create and store a video player with customized parameters (e.g., player type, appearance, advertising options, etc.) and can associate the player with a playlist of selected videos. The stored video player is associated with a player ID in a player database and can be embedded in a website using an embed code referencing the player ID. A user interface for the embedded player provides controls for controlling video playback and for controlling the selection of a video from the playlist.

Abstract: An editing apparatus efficiently performs cooperative editing of a document. Multiple users can edit a document in parallel using the editing apparatus which includes a screen output section, an editing screen, a section for receiving, a selection input section for inputting, and an update section for reflecting the edited content selected by a selection instruction, and updating the document.

Abstract: A system, method, and storage medium for generating visual content in plural versions for substantially simultaneous display on the same display device are provided. The system includes memory for storing static content having at least one document element common to a first and second version of a document, multi-dimensional content having at least one customized document element for each document version to be inserted into a variable area within the first and second versions of the document, and multi-dimensional parameters defining static areas, variable areas, and customized document elements for each document version. The system further includes a rendering module adapted to generate a first frame-image corresponding to the first document version and a second frame-image corresponding to the second document version by arranging the static content and multi-dimensional content of each document version according to the multi-dimensional parameters.

Abstract: A method of decoding, composing and rendering a scene. First information is obtained, the first information including a part of a MPEG-4 BIFS scene description stream and at least one coded MPEG-4 media stream. The first information is decoded by invoking a BIFS scene decoder and one or more specific media decoders that are required by the scene. Second information is obtained, the second information including a second part of a BIFS scene description stream that contains a reference to an external application. The second information is decoded by invoking the BIFS scene decoder and an external application decoder. An integrated scene is composed, the integrated scene including one or more decoded MPEG-4 media objects and one or more external application objects specified in the decoded scene descriptions streams. The composed integrated scene is rendered on a display.

Abstract: The addition of temporal positions to an inverted index allows for temporal queries in addition to phrase queries. Store additional binary data for each term instance in the word-level index to prepare for searching in response to time-based queries from a user is accomplished through the use of Lucene's binary payload feature where the payload structure is defined for use in such searches. The pre-defined payload fields consist of three integers, which account for 12 extra bytes that must be stored for each term instance. A content database on the Master/Administrator server node provides the indexes for search into content in response to user events, returning results in JSON format. The search results may then be used to locate and present content segments to a user containing both requested search term results and the time location and duration within a content asset where the search term(s) is found.

Abstract: An electronic book system is configured to allow a user to listen to an audio version of an electronic book, then switch to reading a text version of the book on a different device, the text version being presented from the point where the audio version left off. One or more users can repeatedly switch from audio to text versions without losing track of their progress through the book. Correlation between audio and text versions is established by generating a correlation table or inserting position-related metadata in the audio or text data files.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses that automatically detect availability of a reader mode for article content in a web page addressed by a URL are described. Availability detection may be progressively performed such that cheap operations are performed first to reduce the need to perform more expensive ones. A retrieval status of the web page may be detected to determine when enough content has been retrieved to initiate a detection of the reader mode for the web page. A reader indicator may be presented in a user interface of a browser if the availability of the reader mode is detected. A user of the browser may be noted with an alternative presentation of the article content from the web page in addition to a presentation of the whole web page by the browser. If the reader mode of the web page is not available, no reader indicator may be present in the browser.

Abstract: Techniques disclosed herein adapt a content authoring environment based on the specifications of destination electronic device for which that content is prepared. Such modification tailors features in the authoring environment to the destination device. The content authoring environment receives an identification of a destination device, such as a mobile phone, for which content is to be presented. The content authoring environment then modifies operation of itself to confirm to characteristics of the identified destination device. For example, such a modification can enable/disable authoring tools, provide device compatibility feedback in response to user content authoring, make changes to created content for device compatibility, and so forth.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, systems and computer program product for updating a user session in a terminal server environment. Transfer of display data corresponding to an updated user interface can occur via a memory shared between an agent server and an agent client in a terminal server environment. Access to the shared memory can be synchronized via token passing or other operation to prevent simultaneous access to the shared memory. Token sharing and synchronized input/output can be performed using FIFOs, sockets, files, semaphores and the like, allowing communications between the agent server and agent client communications to adapt to different operating system architecture.

Abstract: Systems and methods for generating and sharing interactive charts are described. The interactive charts are generated in an online portal that allows users to customize the interactive features of the chart. An online portal may also be provided to allow users to automatically embed interactive chart(s) in another website without reprogramming the code of the website each time the interactive chart(s) are changed or new interactive chart(s) are added.

Abstract: Example methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture meter media content presented on a wireless communication device are disclosed. A disclosed example method receives media content via a wireless communication device. The media content is to be presented via the wireless communication device. First information is generated indicative of a media presentation mode of a media presentation application executed by the wireless communication device to present the media content. Second information is generated indicative of the media content presented via the wireless communication device. The first information is stored in association with the second information in the wireless communication device.

Abstract: An e-book system receives and stores different versions of an e-book supporting different consumption modes. Additionally, the e-book system stores signposts for the e-book. The signposts include corresponding locations in different versions of the e-book. When a user switches from a first version to a second version, the e-book system determines based on the signposts a location in the second version of the e-book that corresponds to the current location in the first version. The e-book system then presents the content in the second version from the determined location.

Abstract: A server receives a request from a first computing device to send a communication to a second computing device. The request includes data identifying text selected from an e-book. The server identifies media content, such as an audio book or a movie, that corresponds to the e-book. The server extracts a portion of the media content that corresponds to the text selected from the e-book. The server generates a communication that includes media data that enables access to the portion of the media content and sends the communication to the second computing device.

Abstract: A social networking system includes a mechanism for customizing display of content from an external web page. Nodes associated with a web page are included in the social graph based on one or more tags included in a web page, which contain meta-information for defining the node in the social networking system, such as the type of the node. The social networking system retrieves the tags from the markup language document and stores their information in connection with the node for the web page while using the tags to identify a template that describes display of content from the web page. The template may include user interface elements for receiving input, allowing a user to interact with a node in the social graph associated with the web page, allowing user interactions with the web page content to be tracked by and reflected back within the social networking system.

Abstract: A method and system for generating page and document logs for electronic documents. The system includes a plurality of portable electronic devices and a workflow server. The portable electronic devices display a document that receives stroke input and images. A stroke capture device and module generates a log of segments and updates the log in response to a user erasing stroke data. An image capture module captures an image and inserts the image into a document. A logging module generates page metadata for each page within the document and document metadata that includes changes made to the page data. The logging module copies the page metadata and document metadata in response to a request. The copying includes a copy of all the metadata, metadata for selected pages and metadata for redacted content.
