Abstract: Techniques are described for providing full support of inline images within online instant messaging applications such as those developed for Flash. When a message contains both a text component and an image component, the image component is separated from the text component. The location of the text is measured dynamically either using an XML ruler component or a bitmap ruler component. Based upon the locations of the text, the images are placed on an invisible image layer. The text is placed on a textfield to be displayed to the user. The image or textfield layer is then placed on top of the other of the image or textfield layer so that both the text component and the image component of the message are visible to the user.

Abstract: A system and method capable of identifying that a node of an extensible markup language (XML) document is editable using an element of an electronic-form template is described. In at least some embodiments, the system and method are capable of determining operations that are permitted for the identified node using another element of the electronic-form template.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for generating customized images for display to a user. In one example, a system may comprise a web server and one or more databases. A web server may generate one or more HTML pages in response to a user request. These web pages can be used to collect image customization information from the user and to display custom image designs based on the collected information. In addition, the collected image customization information and the generated custom image designs may be stored in a database.

Abstract: A communication terminal uses a Web printing function to print a Web page of a URL designated through an operation panel, together with the URL of the Web page and an entry column for entering keywords, on a sheet of paper. When an image is read from the sheet of paper, the communication terminal specifies contents written in a specific position. When any URL is contained in the contents and any keyword is specified together with the URL, the communication terminal registers the URL and the keyword associatively in a data table. After that, a user can make the communication terminal print the Web page of the designated URL by designating the URL registered in the data table on the basis of the keyword corresponding to the URL.

Abstract: Simplifying understanding of procedure dependencies in a form definition used in user interfaces. In an embodiment, a form definition including a set of procedures (identified by a corresponding identifier) are examined to determine pairs of procedures such that a caller procedure of a pair invokes/refers a called procedure in the pair. For each of pair of procedures determined, a link associated with an identifier identifying the called procedure is included in the caller procedure. The link is designed to display the called procedure in response to a user action associated with the identifier in a display of the caller procedure.

Abstract: The present invention provides a printer in a network, the printer adapted to print a first form and a second form including coded data and receive data from a sensing device operated by a user on the forms. The sensed data includes an identity that is relayed via the printer to a computer system which determines if movement of the sensing device on the first form is in respect of the selection of one or more objects and if movement of the sensing device on a second form is in respect of selection of one or more commands. The printer receives response data from the computer system indicating an association of the one or more selected objects with the one or more selected commands and prints an amended version of the second form including a representation of the selected one or more objects.

Abstract: A system updates a portable processing device with the latest version of customized data collection forms and associated data for use in acquisition of particular types of data for communication to a remote clinical information database. A system for providing forms for use in data collection by a portable processing device includes a form creator for creating an electronic form for use in collecting data, in response to user command. The system includes a repository of created electronic forms and a form version detector for detecting whether a newer version of a form currently stored in a portable processing device is available. A communication processor initiates communication of data representing a newer version form derived from the repository to the portable processing device in response to detection of availability of the newer version.

Abstract: Some embodiments may provide a method comprising receiving, from a remote machine, entity-identifying data and form identifying data, the form identifying data to identify a sequence of one or more electronic forms, the sequence including a target electronic form having a form element, determining an entity identifier, based on the entity-identifying data, accessing, from a data store, an entity attribute value based on the entity identifier, and transmitting, to the remote machine, form-filling instructions operable to cause a machine to automatically associate an entity attribute value with the form element.

Abstract: A common text framework for application programs having documents of primarily text and input devices for entering and editing text of such documents is disclosed. The framework provides for the interaction of applications and handlers for input devices, and includes a text store interface and a text input processor interface. The former interface permits an application having a document of primarily text to expose the document as an abstraction. The latter interface permits a handler for an input device to access the abstraction of the document and to insert additional text into the document.

Abstract: A forms engine allows data sharing between customizable on-line forms, such as college admissions applications. Before applying, an applicant opens an account with a third party application servicer. After the applicant completes an application for one institution, the data is saved in a data base and automatically populates fields in subsequent application forms. The form for each institution is created from a form description file. Each form is branded for its institution and forms for different institutions differ in appearance and content so that the presence of the third party servicer is transparent to the applicant. The system is extensible without programming, allowing new applicant attributes to be readily incorporated into the system and allowing the content and appearance of the application to be readily changed by changing the description file.

Abstract: The illustrative embodiments provide a computer implemented method and system for recovering an incomplete, online form. A browser receives a document and determines whether the document is a first form. Responsive to the document being a first form, the browser initiates a handler to recognize a form exit event. Responsive to recognizing an occurrence of the form exit event, the browser saves the first form and data entered into the first form on a storage device to form at least one saved form. Responsive to opening the browser after the first form and the data entered into the first form have been saved, the browser retrieves the at least one saved form from the storage device. The browser populates the fields of a second form using the data from the at least one saved form. The second form is a blank copy of the at least one saved form.

Each XML file comprises email templates. The computing system receives language identification data identifying a first XML file of the XML files. The first XML file comprises a first set of email templates. The computing system selects the first XML file in response to receiving the first language identification data. The computing system receives template identification data identifying a first email template of the first set of email templates. The computing system selects the first email template in response to receiving the template identification data. The computing system retrieves the first data object stored in the computing system. The computing system automatically generates a first email by incorporating first portions of the first data object into associated sections of the first email template.

Abstract: A form user interface modification engine for use in customizing forms of an application is provided. The modification engine includes an export component which retrieves a first binary format form for customization. The export component deserializes the first binary format form and converts the first binary format form into a first XML format form. An import component of the modification engine receives a customized XML format form created using the first XML format form and serializes the customized XML format form. The customized XML format form is then stored as an XML layer with a reference to the associated binary format form.

Abstract: The invention provides a layout system suitable for producing an optimum layout when the attributes of the published information are not clearly determined in advance. The layout system can include a content distribution terminal that selects an article from the content registration DB and a page template from the template registration DB according to the number of characters of the selected article and produces a layout of the article according to the selected page template. Specifically, the total number of characters of an unpublished article is calculated, and the average number of characters in each of unprocessed pages is calculated on the basis of the total number of characters, the maximum number of pages and the current number of pages. Then, a page template with the number of publishable characters suitable for the calculated average number of characters is selected from the template registration DB.

Abstract: A method of generating a flexible automated workflow system includes identifying a workflow process, creating at least one form associated with the workflow process identified for display in a base language, generating a user interface version of the at least one form, and displaying the user interface version of the at least one form in the base language for use by a user. A user selectable option to translate includes providing at least one alternate translation of the user interface version of the at least one form into at least one alternate language when the at least one alternate translation was provided by a developer when the at least one form was created and an option to translate is selected by the user. Alternatively, the at least one translation of the user interface version of the at least one form can also be displayed when the at least one alternate translation is provided by a developer subsequent to creation of the at least one form.

The Web form can be written in a markup language based upon a Standard Generalized Mark-up Language (SGML). The Web form can include a repeating structure that references a collection of data items. The repeated item section can present the data items in a tabular format. The repeated item section can also include multiple selectors, one selector corresponding to each data item. The collection control section can include at least one user selectable collection actuator, such as a button, that performs a function associated with the actuator upon only those designated data items in the collection for which a corresponding selector has been chosen.
