Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods to incorporate human knowledge when developing and using statistical models for natural language understanding. The disclosed systems and methods embrace a data-driven approach to natural language understanding which progresses seamlessly along the continuum of availability of annotated collected data, from when there is no available annotated collected data to when there is any amount of annotated collected data.

Abstract: A system and method for assisting a user to enter data are provided. The method includes detecting a user's selection of a moveable input zone on each of one or more input documents displayed on the user's screen and detecting a user's selection of a moveable target zone on a target document displayed on the user's screen. Data in the input zone(s) and the target zone is captured for one or more locations of the respective zones and a pattern is learned automatically for filling additional data in the target document based on the captured data. A fill arrangement for filling the additional data in the target document based on the learned pattern is generated, which can be presented to the user for validation.

Abstract: Phrases in the reviews that express sentiment about a particular aspect are identified. Reviewable aspects of the entity are also identified. The reviewable aspects include static aspects that are specific to particular types of entities and dynamic aspects that are extracted from the reviews of a specific entity instance. The sentiment phrases are associated with the reviewable aspects to which the phrases pertain. The sentiment expressed by the phrases associated with each aspect is summarized, thereby producing a summary of sentiment associated with each reviewable aspect of the entity. The summarized sentiment and associated phrases can be stored and displayed to a user as a summary description of the entity.

Abstract: A semantic processor and method for automatically recognizing Whole-Part relations in at least one natural language electronic or digital document recognizes one or more expanded Subject-Action-Object (eSAO) sets in text, wherein each eSAO set has one or more eSAO components; matches the one or more eSAO sets against Whole-Part relationship patterns, and generates one or more eSAO Whole-Part relations based on the matching, wherein the eSAO Whole-Part relation comprises a Whole eSAO and an Part eSAO.

Abstract: Aspects of this disclosure relate to a process whereby markup text and/or graphics may be overlaid on top of an original document such that a user may view both the original document and the overlaid text and graphics together in an unobtrusive manner. Some aspects further discuss broader markup functionalities, such as modifying the content or appearance of text and graphics when a mark-up function is performed.

Abstract: A system is provided in which access to documents and collaboration across varied platforms and feature versions is supported. A conversion and merge services is described that enables a client device to display documents irrespective of the original file format and re-integrate into the original document the modifications of the displayed document. The displayed document (as a whole or in parts) can be imported and converted to the file format of the original document before the changes are compared and merged into the original document. A set of application programming interfaces are also provided that perform certain tasks, such as highlight, comment, or format.

Abstract: A test management system and method is disclosed. A document is analyzed and parsed to identify the various elements that make up the document. Alternative values are received for one or more of these elements. In response to receiving a request for the document, the test management system generates a variation of the document based on alternative values. Multiple versions of the document are generated based on the alternative values as additional requests for the document are received.

Abstract: Systems and methods for receive one or more document comprising genealogical or ancestral information and generating an electronic version of the document. Extracting genealogical or ancestral information from one or more documents and associate information extracted from the document(s) with one or more data fields of a genealogical record. Displaying the electronic document simultaneously with a plurality of genealogical or ancestral records that includes information about individuals, and a hierarchical structure describing a relationship between individuals.

Abstract: Embedded system with web-based user interface, firmware structure thereof, and method for providing information thereof are provided. The firmware of the embedded system includes an execution part and a presentation part, which are separated, wherein the execution part includes a web service program and a program interface while the presentation part includes a web page which includes a request for dynamic content associated with the program interface so as to obtain corresponding dynamic content. When the system takes the presentation part as the static content of its web-based user interface, the web service program, in response to a static content request, reads the web page from the non-volatile memory and outputs it to a device, and in response to the dynamic content request, invokes the program interface to obtain the corresponding dynamic content and output it to the device.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for tracking modifications in a document. One or more fields in the document are defined. The modifications in the document are then tracked. Thereafter, a machine-readable code (MRC) is generated based on the recorded modifications. The MRC is then embedded in the document. The MRC may be scanned any time to view the information on the modifications.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that facilitate generation of snippets. In embodiments, text features within a keyword-sentence window are identified. The text features are utilized to determine break features that indicate favorability of breaking at a particular location of the keyword-sentence window. The break features are used to recognize features of partial snippets such that a snippet score to indicate the strength of the partial snippet can be calculated. Snippet scores associated with partial snippets are compared to select an optimal snippet, that is, the snippet having the highest snippet score.

Abstract: A method for locating line breaks in text, carried out by a computer device having a processor and system memory, includes the steps of creating a probabilistic model of a paragraph of text, parameterized by inter-word spacing, and running an inference on the model to find a sequence of line-breaks that maximize the joint probability of line break positions with minimum deviation of inter-word spacing from an ideal value.

Abstract: A computer program product residing on a computer readable medium having a plurality of instructions stored thereon which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations including providing a visual representation of a product concept comprising a textual component comprising at least one dynamic textual element and at least on static textual element and providing text editing functionality of the textual component such that a selection of any text forming a part of the at least one dynamic textual element automatically results in the selection of the entire at least one dynamic textual element wherein the text editing functionality comprises changing a format of at least a part of the at least one dynamic textual element.

Abstract: A software application that acquires digital text displayed on an electronic device with a digital display and enhances the digital text, thereby reducing eye strain and increasing readability and reading speed. The software may operate concurrently with digital text being displayed as an overlaid window of enhanced text that is magnified and scrolls continuously. Parameters of the magnified scrolling text may be adjusted to increase or decrease text volume, quantity, scrolling speed, and magnification factor.

Abstract: An approach for presenting revision history for collaboratively edited documents. In one aspect, the approach comprises a computing system tracking edits to documents according to an ordering of edits without changing the document, responsive to a requestor and a responder utilizing one or more collaborative tools during editing sessions of the documents. The approach further comprises the computing system identifying designated portions of edits of information of the documents. Moreover, the approach comprises the computing system extracting the designated portions of edits of information of the documents, and responsive to the requestor or the responder enabling a time view on the one or more collaborative tools, presenting extracted designated portions of the edits of the document.

Abstract: The present invention comprises a system and method for automatically processing one or more citations contained within a document while the document is presented by a document rendering application. The method of the present invention comprises scanning the document to identify an unformatted citation and parsing the unformatted citation to determine one or more citation terms. One or more citation libraries are queried to find citations comprising the one or more citation terms. A citation falling within the scope of the query is selected and inserted into the document.

Abstract: The present invention provides a way of parsing into tagged segments of texts and therefrom accessing multi-tagged literature. Multi-tagged literature comprises multiple narrative threads that may each occur simultaneously within a narrative or historical timeline, thereby allowing the reader to switch back and forth between various aspects of a text and optionally follow separate threads. In certain versions, the invented system includes an editing interface and a reader software. The editing interface allows for the manipulation of both imported text, newly input and/or newly authored text, and enables a user to populate a file with the text in combination with functional software code. The reader software directs the ebook display device to both render the text and allow the user to traverse the text in a variety of ways as directed by input to the ebook display device of commands and selections.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, for a user interface for defining a text file transformation. A method of processing a text file includes retrieving the text file, displaying the text file and a tree structure showing processing commands, and performing a set of visual editing operations to extract given portions of the text file while discarding other text, characters or white space, the displayed tree structure updated to include all processing commands representative of the visual editing operations. The method can include previewing the results of and/or debugging the editing operations using the displayed processing commands in the tree structure.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide for the efficient application of a system font mapping to a design. Specific embodiments of the invention involve creating a design environment for a user that is configured to display a design. The design environment allows a user to apply a design font to text in the design. The user is also allowed to define a mapping from the design font to a target font. These embodiments also include generating a markup language representation of the design and applying the mapping to the design. The text is linked to the design font using an encoding prior to the generating step, and the text is linked to fonts in the markup language representation using a different encoding.

Abstract: A method for importing an email onto an editing interface of an electronic device includes the following steps. Firstly, create a new notepad page comprising an editing interface when a notepad application is activated. Secondly, receive user input signals. Thirdly, determine whether a user input operation requires the import of an email onto the editing interface of the new notepad page and select an email stored in an email box in response to an email selection operation and further directly import the selected email onto the editing interface of the new notepad page for editing and personalization. And then delivery the edited document as an outbound email. A related electronic device is also provided.

Abstract: Computer-readable media, computer systems, and computing devices for inserting online content within editable content of a document being composed or manipulated within a document-authoring application, without exiting the document-authoring application or leaving a context of composing or manipulating the document, are provided. Initially, a user-initiated selection of a portion of the editable content within the document is detected. The selected portion of the editable content is automatically distributed to a search engine, where the search engine is equipped to generate search results that are relevant to the selected portion. Upon receiving the search results, they are presented to the user. At this point, the user is allowed to target at least one of the presented search results. Online content associated with the targeted search result is then inserted within the editable content of the document.

Abstract: A content platform for presenting documents to a user based on topics and collective opinions expressed in the documents is disclosed. The content platform mines a corpus of documents to identify a set of topics and analyzes each document in the corpus of documents to determine a set of opinions associated with the set of topics. The corpus of documents is presented to the user based on the set of topics and the set of opinions. Each document in the corpus of documents is visually modified to focus the user's attention on the set of opinions associated with the set of topics.

Abstract: An undo delete method of a text editor supporting a non-character-based delete function in an electronic device includes: performing a non-character-based delete operation to remove a set of text at an original position in a display area of the text editor from the display area; when the non-character-based delete operation terminates, temporarily inserting the set of removed text back in the original position in the display area; checking if a user confirmation is received, and accordingly generating a checking result; and selectively maintaining or removing the set of inserted text according to the checking result.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a device displays content on a touch screen display and detects input by finger gestures. In response to the finger gestures, the device selects content, visually distinguishes the selected content, and/or updates the selected content based on detected input. In some embodiments, the device displays a command display area that includes one or more command icons; detects activation of a command icon in the command display area; and, in response to detecting activation of the command icon in the command display area, performs a corresponding action with respect to the selected content. Exemplary actions include cutting, copying, and pasting content.

Abstract: A method of facilitating the entry of text into a new message generated by a messaging application of a handheld electronic device is provided that includes receiving a command to reply to or forward a received message that is included within a message thread, scanning the message thread, identifying a plurality of words in the message thread, generating one or more word lists that include the identified words, and displaying the one or more word lists. The method further includes receiving a selection of a selected one of the words from the one or more word lists, and entering the selected one of the words into the new message. Also provided is an improved handheld electronic device that implements the described method.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for editing memo contents of a user in a user terminal including a user interface are provided. When a part or all of the memo contents on a screen are damaged based on a memo function by using a prearranged pattern, the damaged part or all of the memo contents are deleted and a memo where the part or all of the memo contents have been deleted is displayed on the screen. At this time, the memo displayed on the screen has gone through an edit for filling a blank generated due to the deletion of the damaged part or all of the memo contents by moving successive memo contents to the deleted memo contents.

Abstract: A collaborative development service manages a document that can be shared among multiple users. If multiple users are editing the document, the edits may need to have operational transformation rules applied thereon. The collaborative development service provides operational transformation rules to users of mobile devices that do not have copies of the operational transformation rules stored on their devices. When a change to the document is received by the collaborative development service, it is determined that a first user device has operational transformation capability. In response to determining that the first user device has operational transformation capability, the change is transmitted to the first user. The collaborative development service determines that a second user device does not have operational transformation capability and applies an operational transformation to the change to generate a transformed change. The transformed change is transmitted to the second user device.

Abstract: A text display system provides a restricted copy-and-paste operation such that only a limited percentage less than 100% of a source text can be copied. The strategy assumes that a document contains a plurality of words and sentences that a restriction can be placed upon. While it is possible to highlight any amount of text via a typical select function (e.g., mouse drag over text), depending on the number of words at the sentence, paragraph or document level, the present invention limits how much of the selected text can be copied. The system provides the user with instant feedback via visual, tactile or other means, when a selection exceeds the system-imposed limit. The restriction permits the copy-and-paste operation of key ideas from the source text, potentially for further elaboration upon in future writing, and yet discourages indiscriminant copying leading to plagiarism.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for displaying and manipulating the display of digital character strings where the length of the character string extends beyond the width of a desired output display. In response to a user request to display a character string, a client can generate a truncated representation of the character string using at least one truncation symbol when the character string extends beyond the width of an output display. A client can modify the display of the truncated representation of the character string in response to detecting a signal corresponding to a change in location of the truncation symbol. The signal can be detected from a touchscreen or input device. This allows a user to view any portion of a selected character string, including those portions that may be obscured by the truncation symbol.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for displaying and manipulating the display of digital character strings where the length of the character string extends beyond the width of a desired output display. A client can perform contextual based truncations of character strings using at least one truncation symbol when the characters strings extend beyond the width of an output display. The client can analyze the character strings for differences and similarities. The client can then generate the truncated representations of the character strings based on predetermined parameters for truncation. The truncated representations can include similar and different portions of the character strings that maintain descriptive information that differentiates them.

Abstract: A word processing system includes an undo function monitor that monitors the history of a user's use of the undo operation. Depending upon the pattern detected, the system disables the particular auto-formatting feature that triggered the undesired automatic operation. In an illustrative embodiment, the system tracks whether a number of undo operations exceeds a programmable threshold. In one illustrative implementation, the system also tracks the number of times a user has undone, i.e., reversed, an automatic formatting operation compared with the number of instances where the user has permitted the subject automatic formatting operation to take place.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the technical field of computer character input, and provides a method and system for generating instructions according to the change of a font outline. The method includes: reading original data of a font outline; modifying the font outline; generating instructions according to the change of the font outline data; and importing the instructions into a character library.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes displaying a content item on a screen of a computing device; displaying a first portion of a series of comments concerning the content item in close proximity to the content item on the screen of the computing device; and in response to a user scrolling down the series of comments, adjusting the content item so that the content item occupies less space on the screen of the computing device and there is more space available on the screen of the computing device for displaying the series of comments; and displaying a second portion of the series of comments using the more space, the second portion including more comments than the first portion.

Abstract: A document can be processed to provide sentiment values for phrases in the document. The sequence of sentiment values associated with the sequence of phrases in a document can be handled as if they were a sampled discrete time signal. For phrases which have been identified as entities, a filtering operation can be applied to the sequence of sentiment values around each entity to determine a sentiment value for the entity.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and products are disclosed for providing expressive user interaction with a multimodal application, the multimodal application operating in a multimodal browser on a multimodal device supporting multiple modes of user interaction including a voice mode and one or more non-voice modes, the multimodal application operatively coupled to a speech engine through a VoiceXML interpreter, including: receiving, by the multimodal browser, user input from a user through a particular mode of user interaction; determining, by the multimodal browser, user output for the user in dependence upon the user input; determining, by the multimodal browser, a style for the user output in dependence upon the user input, the style specifying expressive output characteristics for at least one other mode of user interaction; and rendering, by the multimodal browser, the user output in dependence upon the style.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method is proposed for representing capitalization in written text by quantitative differences in font size, font, color, boldness, and italics or some combination of these characteristics of lowercase letters rather than by the currently accepted use of uppercase letters. Shape differences between upper and lowercase letters impede learning to read. The proposed method of capitalization doesn't change the shape of the lowercase letter but only changes a property that leaves the basic shape of the letter intact. This design change makes text easier to read and allows children and illiterate adults to learn the alphabet more easily. It also transforms text to be readable by individuals who have learned the lowercase but not the uppercase letters. The proposed method of representing capitalization can also be used to signal capitalization in texts with unicase scripts.

Abstract: An electronic device displays at least a portion of an electronic document with a predefined page layout at a first magnification level on a display; detects a first input indicating a first insertion point in the document, where the first insertion point is proximate to a first portion of text in the document; and in response to detecting the first input: selects a second magnification level different from the first magnification level, where the second magnification level is selected so as to display the first portion of text at a target text display size, and, while maintaining the predefined page layout of the document, displays, at the second magnification level, a portion of the document that includes the first portion of text.

Abstract: By analyzing a web page, the web page can be divided into component parts. Specifically, the web page can be divided into items, templates and the remaining HTML. Then, using dedicated user interfaces, each component part can be separately edited. To facilitate editing, the component parts not being edited can optionally be suppressed or presented in abbreviated form, and all parts can optionally be shown in the same order in which they occur in the web page. The live version of the web page is then updated with the edited version of the component parts, taking into consideration any contributions from other users made during the editing process.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a novel operation for aligning a symbol with an associated character in a digital content processing application. In some embodiments, the alignment operation uses a font property of the character to align the symbol with the character. In some embodiments, the character has a slanted display orientation and the font property is an angle at which the character is slanted. Symbols that are associated with characters include diacritical marks, accents, mathematical symbols that align above or below a character, and other symbols of the character. The character, sometimes referred to as a “base character”, may be a character in text, in an equation, etc.

Abstract: In a method for identifying a table of contents in a document, an ordered sequence of text fragments is derived from the document. A table of contents is selected as a contiguous sub-sequence of the ordered sequence of text fragments satisfying the criteria: (i) entries defined by text fragments of the table of contents each have a link to a target text fragment having textual similarity with the entry; (ii) no target text fragment lies within the table of contents; and (iii) the target text fragments have an ascending ordering corresponding to an ascending ordering of the entries defining the target text fragments.

Abstract: In various embodiments of the present invention, documents (eg, PDFs) are converted into HTML 5 (and CSS 3) formats and integrated into existing HTML 5 web pages to preserve the original embedded fonts. The fonts can also be integrated or embedded (e.g., via the standard HTML “iframe” tag) into other web pages. The original appearance of the source document is maintained, the text is preserved as searchable text, and the document is integrated into a web page that can be searched, zoomed, scrolled, and printed utilizing standard web browser controls. A significantly increased “ad inventory” is thereby enabled, wherein advertisements can be integrated between pages, or even within a page. Moreover, the resulting document can be passively shared with members of a user's external social networks (including those within the host website), along with other activities and behaviors performed by the user on the hosting website.

Abstract: Computer software applications presently allow the User to preview the impact of some commands on active documents via a small preview window. However, such preview windows are not representative of how the command will impact the entire document. The invention provides a method and system of efficiently and effectively previewing the impact of User commands on the entire document by executing User commands as they are identified. Leaving the menu open, the User is able to identify successive commands until the desired result is reached. Embodiments are described for execution of general commands, text editing commands, relocations of margins or guidelines, and relocations of graphic objects.

Abstract: User input identifying a selection of a textual portion of a document being displayed in a computer display region can be received. An identification of a meaning of the selection by analyzing context information around the selection can be automatically requested. A dataset about the identified meaning can be retrieved from a service. A selection of a visualization format from a plurality of available visualization formats can be automatically requested to represent the dataset. A visualization of the dataset in the selected visualization format can be automatically displayed. The visualization can represent at least a portion of the dataset.

Abstract: A security system includes an interface, a main computer, and an application server. The interface enables a user to access a remote document related to a product. The main computer stores documents related to the product and generates a pair of localized encryption keys. The encryption keys include a first key that encrypts data and second key that decrypts the data. An application server that is remote from the interface transmits and receives the document from the interface. The main computer authenticates the integrity of the document in a local operation by signing the document with the first key before it is transmitted to the interface and by signing the document with the second key after it is received from the interface.

Abstract: A method for user interface according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: displaying text on a screen; receiving a character selection command of a user who selects at least one character included in a text, receiving a speech command of a user who designates a selected range in the text including at least one character, specifying the selected range according to the character selection command and the speech command; and a step for receiving an editing command of a user for the selected range.

Abstract: A method, medium and implementing processing system are provided for book marking a combination of frame URLs within a frameset and allowing the sharing on multiple PCs the saved form data that may have been filled in. The system uses an image as a hotspot, containing a complex target destination in the form of an XML structure with multiple URLs for multiple frames as well as captured form data. This system combines file types such as XML and JPG, e.g. as in sample file name ‘MyCapturedFramesAndFormData.XML.JPG’ or ‘MyCapturedFramesAndFormData.XML.GIF’. This combination provides a surprising effect compared to the prior systems, namely, launching the image in an enhanced web browser or in a web browser containing a new plug-in, displays the frame just as it was when saved, including frame set and data input to displayed forms.

Abstract: A method for scaling on a display device, including: obtaining an electronic document (ED) identifying multiple graphical features; generating, before receiving a request to scale the ED on the display device, multiple resolution-independent (RI) versions of the multiple graphical features; adding, before receiving the request to scale the ED on the display device, the multiple RI versions to a RI display list; receiving the request to scale the ED on the display device specifying a resolution; and generating, in response to the request, a scaled ED for the display device by rendering the multiple RI versions of the multiple graphical features in the RI display list at the resolution.

Abstract: Communications between participants over a communications link are proxied by an intermediary, such as an Integrated Order Mechanism (IOM). Participants interact with each other through the IOM. The IOM may be transparent to the participants such that they are not aware that the IOM is involved in processing communications. For example, in the context of a transaction by a customer making a purchase from a merchant over the Internet, the IOM facilitates the processing of transactions by processing requests from both the customer and the merchant. Neither the customer nor the merchant may be aware that the transactions are being handled by the IOM. Navigation objects may be provided for the communications over a network. For example, a navigation bar may be included on a merchant web page to provide the customer with a link back to a shopping application provided by the IOM.

Abstract: An electronic device displays at least a portion of an electronic document with a predefined page layout at a first magnification level on a display; detects a first input indicating a first insertion point in the document, where the first insertion point is proximate to a first portion of text in the document; and in response to detecting the first input: selects a second magnification level different from the first magnification level, where the second magnification level is selected so as to display the first portion of text at a target text display size, and, while maintaining the predefined page layout of the document, displays, at the second magnification level, a portion of the document that includes the first portion of text.
