The created media asset illustrations are useful for media assets that lack associated media asset illustrations. The techniques can analyze media asset data or media asset metadata when creating the create media asset illustrations. The created media asset illustrations can, for example, be used while playing, browsing or displaying associated media assets.

Abstract: A screen reader feature is described that enables end users to assign their own descriptions to forms and navigational elements in electronic documents such as web pages, word processing documents and portable document formats. The form or navigational element is identified by the end user. A dialog box provides a text entry box for accepting a user-defined description. The description is saved in association with the document and its particular form or navigational element.

Abstract: Under one aspect, an interface program stored on a computer-readable medium causes a computer system with a display device to perform the functions of: accepting search criteria from a user, the search criteria including a domain identifier identifying a domain and a free text query entry; in response to accepting said search criteria from the user, receiving a set of document-location tuples from a corpus of documents, wherein each document: (a) contains information that is responsive to the free text query entry; and (b) contains location-related information that refers to a location within the domain; requesting and receiving a result from an additional query based at least in part on the domain identifier, the result not being a document-location tuple; and displaying a visual representation of at least a subset of the document-location tuples and a visual representation of the result of the additional query on the display device.

Abstract: A content management system (CMS) includes a content modification mechanism that detects a change to a shared document in the repository, and in response to the detected change, inserts applicability metadata in the shared document. The content modification mechanism may broadcast the change to each parent document. Each parent document votes on whether or not to accept the change. If enough of the parent documents accept the change (i.e. the votes meet a defined voting threshold), the applicability metadata is removed from the shared content. If not enough of the parent documents accept the change, the applicability metadata remains in the shared content, and a profile corresponding to the applicability metadata is created for each parent document that accepted the change. In this manner, profiling may be used to account for changes to shared content in a content management system.

An aggregate document is generated including content element locations corresponding to the content element locations in the determined merge documents. A content graphical indicator is rendered with content element locations in the aggregate document for which at least two of the determined merge documents provide different content, and information is rendered in response to user selection for the content in the plurality of the merge documents provided for the selected content element location.

In one aspect, respective visual features of local input image regions of an input image having a first pixel resolution are analyzed to produce a result. Based on the result of analyzing the visual features, reduced-resolution visual representations of corresponding ones of the local input image regions are derived from the input image. A thumbnail image that reflects the arrangements, proportions and local details of the input image having a second pixel resolution lower than the first pixel resolution is produced from the reduced-resolution visual representations. The thumbnail image is output.

The method for processing the documents includes the step of identifying data fields in the document. The method further includes the steps of identifying a critical section containing data fields corresponding to restricted information, and dividing the document into a critical section and a non-critical section. Further, the method includes the step of processing the non-critical section at a minimally secure location.

Abstract: Methods, computer program products, systems and data structures for generating a signature for a portion or portions of a content source are described. The signature can be generated by identifying a portion or portions of a content source, and determining a signature that defines the portion or portions. If the source is updated, the signature can be retrieved and compared to elements in the updated source. If an element in the updated source matches information included in the signature, content corresponding to the matching element is displayed.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided to create and manage data view modules for updating data on a web page, without having to reload the entire web page to view the updated data. In one embodiment, a static data view module for viewing web data is modified utilizing an asynchronous update function which provides asynchronous update behavior for the data view module. The asynchronous update function enables the data view module to automatically update data displayed in a data view independently of data displayed in other static data views which may be present in a web page and which may only be updated by reloading the entire web page. In another embodiment, application programming interfaces (APIs) may be provided in the modified data view module which, when exposed, facilitate the building of customized data views by providing asynchronous update behavior for customized data view modules in a web page.

Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for simultaneously commencing output of disparately encoded electronic documents. Selection data representative of multiple electronic documents encoded in multiple disparate formats is first received. For example, the electronic documents are capable of being encoded in MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD, MICROSOFT OFFICE EXCEL, ADOBE ACROBAT formats, and the like. Each of the disparate formats is associated with a corresponding software module and then retrieved in accordance with received selection data. Next, the electronic documents are communicated to corresponding software modules, and the document processing device commences a selected document processing operation on each of the electronic documents by a corresponding software module. Each application-specific module is adapted for processing a document processing request for one or more types of documents that are associated with one specific application.

Abstract: A document construction and management system is described. In one embodiment, documents are assembled by combining one or more modules. In one embodiment, the modules are combined according to one or more construction rules. The modules can be provided to a number of subscribers, each subscriber having one or more users. Access to each of the modules can be controlled on a subscriber basis and/or on a user basis based on different users or user classes. When new modules or new versions of an existing module are added to the database of available modules, access to the new module or version can be restricted until the new modules or versions have been reviewed and accepted. During the review period, the previous version of the module is made available to users for construction of documents. In one embodiment, one or more access rules are used to control which modules are available to which users. In one embodiment, search rules are provided to facilitate searching for a desired module.

The subscriber may highlight, cut and paste, copy and paste, and annotate information within an electronic book. A multiple page view feature permits the subscriber to simultaneously view any plurality of pages of an electronic book, and a multiple screen feature permits the subscriber to view one or more pages on a viewer having multiple screens. A picture-in-picture feature permits the subscriber to simultaneously view a page of an electronic book along with other content, such as a television program or information from another electronic book. The picture-in-picture feature may display an electronic book page as a main image wrapped around an inset image.

User input specifies a landing page having sections, each section having an original version of content. User input also specifies one or more additional versions of content, the original and the additional versions together constituting alternative versions, and the landing page with the alternative versions together constituting an experiment. Page fragments are determined. The fragments are added to the landing page and are operable, when interpreted by a client-side browser, to choose one of the alternative versions of each identified section and make each chosen alternative version the content of the corresponding section before the landing page is displayed by the browser. A designer can insert the page fragments into the landing page to produce an instrumented landing page.

Abstract: A method for utilizing a graphical user interface for concurrent programming of multiple feature operations to a single production job in a controller for a production system includes presenting options on the user interface for the selection of job properties or queue properties, with queue properties defined as default values for the virtual device to which the job will be submitted and job properties defined as job feature selection options. The job feature selection options may be hidden or displayed to enable the selection of valid job feature combinations only. Toggle controls are utilized for job feature options whose operation is limited by previously selected job feature options. The application of any valid combination of selected job feature options on the completed production job is illustrated on a dynamic graphic.

Enables generation of audience-specific documents with audience specific images and audience-specific image placement based on inheritance of images and image metadata associated with hierarchical audiences. For data entry, enables a user to rapidly determine if images in an audience specific document conform to the expectations or requirements of an intended audience. The data entry and edit interface distinguishes between current and inherited audience levels through the use of color or any other mechanism that allows a user to quickly identify data that is missing and needs to be populated, changed or remain unchanged if the inherited image or image title or placement is suitable for the given audience. Documents are generated to any number of media types such as HTML, XML and paper.

Abstract: A system and method of assessing and refining quality of Web services (WSDL) definitions for enabling automatic discovery and matching thereof, which includes normalizing definition elements and identifying at least one element as being at least one of cryptic, ambiguous, and unclear to provide a normalization output, assessing a quality of the at least one definition element based on the normalization output, classifying the identified at least one definition element into at least one predetermined category, and providing a quality assessment output, and automatically generating a recommendation for changing at least one definition element based on at least one of the normalization output and the quality assessment output, thereby enabling automatic discovery and matching thereof.

Abstract: A method of data compression for compressing a web page with graphics files, text files, JAVA scripts, and HTML files comprises storing the graphics files, the text files, the JAVA scripts, and the HTML files in a temporary directory. The graphics files are sorted into lossless and lossy file groups. The lossy files, the lossless files, the text files, the JAVA scripts, and the HTML files are concatenating and then compressed to yield a compressed web page. The lossy files may be de-featured and transcoded before concatenation. The lossless files may be subsampled or decimated before concatenation to match client display size. Lossy files may be de-featured to match client display size by subsampling and reducing image fidelity. Optimal file concatenation size range is determined to optimally develop compression performance while minimizing latency. The concatenated file size is regulated to the optimal file concatenation size.

Abstract: A method for validating input received from an XML based form using reusable XPath validation expressions. The method can include a step of identifying a reusable XPath validation expression including at least one substitution marker. The substitution marker can be mapped to one or more values specific to an XML instance. At least one field to be validated with the reusable XPath validation expression can be designated utilizing the development tool. The development tool can automatically replace the substitution marker with the appropriate value specific to an XML instance.

Abstract: In a system for inputting and managing document collections, the order in which documents are presented to the system dictates the organization and hierarchy for the electronically stored document collection. Users can add annotations to documents and collections by writing on a coversheet; the system scans the coversheet, reads the written material, and adds the material to the electronically stored document and/or collection. In addition, in one aspect the invention provides a mechanism for granting different levels of access to different individuals, by generating coversheets that point to the same collection but that provide different levels of access to the collection.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products for defining landing pages to test different landing page designs. A combination is determined of one alternative version for each of one or more sections in an instrumented landing page. In a client, a landing page variant is generated. Each section of the landing page variant is the corresponding alternative version of the section defined by the combination. The landing page variant is generated in the client by determining for each section whether to display an additional version of the section in lieu of the original version of the section. If it is so determined, the additional version of the section is retrieved and inserted into a new location of the landing page variant, and at least one tag is inserted to cause the original version of the section to be disregarded.

Abstract: A system and method for web browsing contemporaneously displays multiple web pages, advertisements, or other applications, preferably within a single window, for a user to view. In a preferred embodiment, a current web page, a past web page, a future web page, and/or an advertisement or other application are contemporaneously displayed in a single window. In this embodiment, the present invention tracks a past web page and renders it in a first panel, renders the current web page in a second panel, and identifies a hyperlink in the current web page to retrieve and render the future web page in a third panel. In other embodiments, a host provides a list of web pages that are to be displayed in the panels. In other embodiments, a user selects a list of web pages that are to be displayed in the panels. In other embodiments, hyperlinks are filtered and/or prioritized to determine which web pages are to be displayed in the panels.

The tab image is detected on the rasterized tab page at the predetermined location, and then the rasterized tab image is positioned at the associated tab position.

Abstract: An improved e-mail communication apparatus, a data processing method and a program are provided. First, an MFP 100 which receives an e-mail decides whether or not the e-mail is one of a plurality of split data generated by dividing image data in data amount units and stores the e-mail. The MFP 100 then decides whether or not all the split data of the image data are stored, and when all the split data are stored, the MFP 100 generates combined data by combining the plurality of split data and performs printing processing on recording paper based on the combined data.

Abstract: Methods are disclosed for type-fitting text in multiple text frames of a page layout application. The text frames are associated with a group, and permissible variances of parameters of type fitting attributes are assigned to the group using a graphical user interface. In one embodiment, to type-fit the text, a best-individual-fit setting for the text of each text frame is first individually assessed to determine parameters of the attributes that would result in the text substantially fitting within its associated text frame. Thereafter, one best-group-fit setting for all frames in the group is determined by sorting through the best-individual-fit settings for each of the frames to determine which frame's best-individual-fit parameters results in the highest degree of text shrinkage or the least degree of text expansion. In accordance with this embodiment, the frames, when fitted, will be uniformly scaled in accordance with a scaling factor.
