Abstract: A system for end-to-end configuration management is provided. The system includes, a server component, a network component, an application component, a resources component, and a services component each operable to identify servers, communication network hardware, applications, human resources, and services, respectively, of the enterprise. The system further includes a management component operable to identify an end-to-end relationship between at least some of the communication network hardware to at least some of the servers, and from at least some of the servers to at least some of the applications, and from at least some of the applications to at least some of the human resources, and from at least some of the applications to at least some of the services.

Abstract: A system and method for online configuration of a measurement system. The user may access a server over a network and specify a desired task, e.g., a measurement task, and receive programs and/or configuration information which are usable to configure the user's measurement system hardware (and/or software) to perform the desired task. Additionally, if the user does not have the hardware required to perform the task, the required hardware may be sent to the user, along with programs and/or configuration information. The hardware may be reconfigurable hardware, such as an FPGA or a processor/memory based device. In one embodiment, the required hardware may be pre-configured to perform the task before being sent to the user. In another embodiment, the system and method may provide a graphical program in response to receiving the user's task specification, where the graphical program may be usable by the measurement system to perform the task.

Abstract: A computer program product includes computer readable instructions that cause a computer to execute a wireless connection setting process. The computer includes a communication interface configured to communicate with at least one device. The wireless connection setting process includes recognizing a state of the at least one device through the communication interface, displaying an input screen image sequentially for each of at least one setting item of wireless connection settings, configuring the wireless connection settings for the at least one device based upon the input, and controlling whether to display the input screen image by judging whether the input is required to be received for each of the at least one setting item based upon the state of the recognized at least one device. Said configuring includes determining the setting item for which the input is not judged required to be received.

Abstract: A network security monitor system groups a plurality of security events into network sessions, correlates the network sessions according to a set of predefined network security event correlation rules and generates a security incident for the network sessions that satisfy one of the network security event correlation rules. The system then presents the information of the network sessions and security incidents to a user of the system in an intuitive form. The user is able to not only learn the details of a possible network attack, but also creates new security event correlation rules intuitively, including drop rules for dropping a particular type of events.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a method for generating labels for drawing elements of a computer aided design (CAD) drawing that may include some unknown number of associated or related drawing elements. The method includes receiving a selection of a set of drawing elements in the CAD drawing that are associated with the first drawing element, receiving a selection of fields specifying attributes of the drawing elements in the set of drawing elements to use in generating label content for a label of the first drawing element, and defining a label style based on the selection of the set of drawing elements and the selection of attributes of the of the drawing elements in the set of drawing elements.

Abstract: A report shows website visitation statistics including page visits before and after a path that can include one or more pages. The report responds to user selection of a page by adding the selected page to the path and regenerating the report. The user can click on pages to add them to the path, or to replace existing pages in the path. The user can also request and receive additional information about any page represented in the report.

Abstract: A method includes receiving an order for services to be provided by an optical network, the order identifying bandwidth requirements for the optical network and multiple broadcast locations; creating an optical network identifier, the optical network identifier including an aggregation of dense wavelength data multiplexers that may define one or more paths; prompting a user to select a path for a broadcast circuit through the dense wavelength data multiplexers using a graphical user interface; querying an operations support service for available bandwidth to support bandwidth requirements over the selected path; and assigning the circuit path based on the available bandwidth.

Abstract: A mechanism is provided for adapting a network topology, in which the network topology comprises a plurality of points, a plurality of connections, each connection connecting a pair of points, and a zoneset comprising a plurality of zones, each zone defining a series of points that are connected. The mechanism performs operations of receiving one or more user inputs, each user input comprising a change to a zone, performing an analysis of the or each user input, to determine one or more consistent universal changes to the zoneset, presenting an output to the user comprising one or more of the determined consistent universal changes to the zoneset, receiving a selection user input selecting a presented consistent universal change to the zoneset, and changing the zoneset according to the selected consistent universal change to the zoneset.

Abstract: The present invention provides a computer management method. This method involves responding to a “get web page” request by generating a web page with graphic representation of computer system objects and embedded script-based context-sensitive menu control. Once the web page is displayed, the method provides for responding to selection of one of said graphic representations by activating and inactiving menu items in accordance with properties of said objects embedded in said web page with said objects under control of said script-based context-sensitive menu control.

Abstract: A system and method for determining a storage configuration for an application, where the storage configuration specifies a storage layout for data objects associated with the application. A Storage Configurator program may display a graphical user interface (GUI) for guiding the user through creation of the storage configuration. User input to specify properties of the storage configuration and/or properties of the application may be received to the graphical user interface. The Storage Configurator program may determine a storage configuration for the application, based on the user input received to the graphical user interface.

A plurality of products operable to perform the task are determined in response to the requirements, e.g., by programmatically analyzing the requirements. A diagram is displayed on the client computer system iconically representing the plurality of products, including icons representing at least a subset of the products to the user as proposed hardware and/or software products for the client system. Pricing information for the proposed products may be displayed. User input indicating purchase of at least one of the products is received and the purchased products provided to the user.

Abstract: System and method for configuring a client system, e.g., a measurement system. First input is received from a client system over a network requesting access to a plurality of configuration diagrams comprising respective solutions to respective tasks. At least a subset of the plurality of configuration diagrams is displayed on a display device of the client system for viewing by a user. Second input is received from the client system selecting one of the displayed configuration diagrams indicating a solution for a task to be performed by the client system. The solution is provided to the client system over the network, and may include the selected configuration diagram and/or pricing information for proposed products. The configuration diagrams are stored in a configuration diagram database. The stored configuration diagrams may be pre-defined solutions for pre-defined tasks, generated in response to received user requirements, and/or received from client systems and/or vendors.

Abstract: Initially, a processing device receives a selection of one or more resources to be deallocated from a storage area network. The processing device applies a traversal function to a repository of managed objects representing the resources in the storage area network to identify other resources (e.g., resources related to the selected one or more resources) in the storage area network that at least partially rely on existence of the selected one or more resources for accessing data stored in the storage area network. The processing device graphically presents the selected one or more resources for deallocation in relation to identified other related resources by highlighting the related resources in the storage area network environment that would not be inherently deleted altogether but whose ability to access data would at least be partially impaired if the selected one or more resources were deallocated from the storage area network environment.

Abstract: A single integrated software project deployment platform is provided that allows administrators to easily and effectively deploy software projects to remote computers. This allows business users with no Information Technology background or capabilities to develop and deploy sophisticated applications for execution on remote systems, such as mobile computers. Mobile workers can connect to backend enterprise systems in real-time to capture rich data types such as digital signatures, photos, speech recognition, bar code scans, etc. while in the field.

Abstract: A system and method for Ethernet network design are disclosed. In one embodiment of a method incorporating teachings of the present disclosure, embedded network information describing at least one existing network element and a plurality of physical locations available for locating new network nodes may be inputted. A demand forecast for a coverage area of a proposed network may also be inputted. In an embodiment in which a to-be-designed network has at least a core layer and an aggregation layer, a number of core layer nodes and aggregator nodes to be included in the proposed network may also be inputted. Consideration may be given to these and other inputs in connection with generating a potential network design for the proposed network, and a cost of implementing the potential network design may be calculated.

Abstract: An approach is provided for managing network device configuration data by functional area. Functional areas supported by a network device are determined. A determination is also made whether a client and the network device support compatible configuration application program interfaces (APIs) for each functional area supported by the network device. User interface objects are generated and displayed on a graphical user interface (GUI). Each user interface object corresponds to one of the functional areas that is supported by the network device and for which the client and network device have compatible configuration APIs. A set of bulk editing functions allows changes to be readily made to multiple configuration data objects and to facilitate creating new configuration data objects.

Abstract: A method for providing a user interface configured using three frames for a Digital Media Player (DMP) in a Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) system. Each of all source, renderer, and menu items of the DLNA system is set to one axis of a set of axes. Two predetermined axes of the set of axes and a contents list are selected according to selection by a DMP user of an operation to be performed within the DLNA system. A user interface of the DMP is configured using two frames for displaying the two predetermined axes and one frame for displaying the contents list.

Abstract: A user interface includes a graphical topological representation of an information system. Information is collected regarding connections between switches, storage nodes and computer nodes in the information system. Any sub networks in the system are identified based on the collected information and classified as LANs or SANs. Connections between the various components are determined, and a layout of any identified LANs, computer nodes, SANs, and storage nodes is established for generating the topological representation in the user interface. The graphical topological representation of the information system is displayed in the user interface with the LAN icons, computer node icons, SAN icons and storage node icons laid out in a matrix-like arrangement of columns and rows, such that for LANs, computer nodes, SANs and/or storage nodes that are connected to each other, the corresponding icons are located on or near a same row in the graphical topological representation.

Abstract: The present invention is related to providing faster and more efficient ways to deploy and manage virtual server configurations in a hosted virtual server service. Broadly, a web interface allows a user to set conditions upon which specific types of virtual servers will be instantiated or terminated on a third-party hosted virtual server service. For example, the user may wish to instantiate a new virtual server each time the load on existing virtual servers exceeds a predetermined threshold. The web interface may also allow a user to select from among a plurality of hosted virtual server services. The web interface may further allow a user to incorporate dynamic variables into configurations of instantiated virtual servers.

Abstract: An improved HII database driver is provided in an EFI environment. The HII database driver is capable of storing extended information regarding an HII component in an HII database at the time the package containing the HII component is parsed for inclusion in the HII database. Extended information for a string may include length of the string in Unicode characters or the length of the string in narrow screen glyphs. The HII database driver also exposes methods through which the extended information may be retrieved from the HII database. The extended information may be utilized to allocate an appropriately sized buffer for storing the string.

Abstract: One embodiment of the invention comprises a system and method for enabling a graphical program to dynamically register one or more events during execution of the graphical program. An event registration node may be displayed in the block diagram of the graphical program. One or more events may be associated with the event registration node. The event registration node may be operable to dynamically register the one or more events during execution of the graphical program. Another embodiment of the invention comprises a system and method for enabling a graphical program to programmatically generate and respond to a user-defined event. The user may desire to define custom, i.e., user-defined, events for use in a graphical program.

Abstract: A virtialization mechanism may create a virtual representation of a group of physical computers and the physical connections between the computers. The mechanism may comprise a discovery tool for determining a topology of connected physical computers and selecting the elements to virtualize, a device virtualization tool that may create virtual versions of the physical computers, and a connection virtualization tool that may create virtual connections between the virtual computers. The virtual devices and virtual connections may then be operated virtually. In many cases, optimized versions of the virtual devices and virtual connections may be performed.

Abstract: The claimed method and system provides a graphical user interface that illustrates network topology information, including connection paths between devices on the local network and an external network such as the Internet. The claimed method and system may use a three column format for presenting the topology that is more intuitive for a user. Also, the claimed method and system may aggregate context and connection information from multiple different protocols to provide the topology display. Further, the claimed method and system may use a device registry to enable customized and extensible representations of the network devices.

The resulting dynamically created graphical user interfaces allow separate views of the data to be interacted with depending on the data pool that the data is intended for and a different data pool may be utilized by using a different declarative configuration at run time without recompiling and redistributing the application. The user interface files may be for example an XML file that may be parsed with any compliant schema based or DTD based XML parser.

Abstract: A system is described for providing strategies for increasing the efficiency of data centers. The system may include a memory, an interface, and a processor. The memory may store a historical dataset, a profile and an initial configuration of a data center. The interface may communicate with a user. The processor may identify the historical dataset and receive the profile and the initial configuration from the user. The user may select a data center initiative and a reduction factor. The processor may determine a subset of the historical dataset that describes data centers with a similar profile as the initial data center. The processor may process the initial configuration, the subset of the historical dataset and the selected initiative to determine a recommended configuration. The recommended configuration may be able to achieve the selected reduction in energy use. The processor may provide the recommended configuration to the user.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for operating a meter uniquely associated with a physical location are provided. The method includes monitoring a communication channel for a message from a remote device and identifying an initial message directed to the meter uniquely associated with the physical location, establishing a communication session with a data manager in response to the initial message from the remote device, receiving configuration information from the data manager, the configuration information associated with operation of the meter and uniquely associated with the physical location of the meter, and transmitting meter operating data to the data manager, wherein the meter is self-powered.

Abstract: Techniques for creating a playlist for media objects are provided. The techniques include receiving a selection of a set of IDs. Each ID is generated based on content of a media objects. A playlist ID is then generated based on the set of IDs and a fixed representation of the playlist ID is created. The fixed representation allows a device to use the playlist ID to determine media objects including the content of media objects used to generate the set of IDs.

Abstract: A method, system, apparatus, and computer program product are presented for management of a distributed data processing system on behalf of a plurality of management customers. A set of logical networks within the distributed data processing system and/or a set of physical networks in the distributed data processing system are associated with an anchor object. A topology map can be generated and displayed in which a root node of the topology map is the anchor object. Each anchor object is uniquely associated with a customer for which the distributed data processing system is managed. The topology display can be restricted such that portions of topology information are displayed to an administrative user in accordance with the authorized security access of the user.

Abstract: A graphical user interface displays management information associated with one or more selected managed entities along with a drill down menu. The drill down menu includes selectable drill down options corresponding to respective drill down functions. Based on selection of a drill down option by a user, a respective drill down function is applied to the management information associated with the one or more selected managed entities. For example, after identifying a selected drill down option chosen from the drill down menu, a processor function associated with the graphical user interface produces a successive drill down view by applying the respective drill down function associated with the selected drill down option to the management information associated with the management view. This technique of drilling down based on selection of one of multiple selectable drill down options enables a network manager to more quickly traverse network management information.

Abstract: A graphical interface for programming network communications messages and messaging behavior on a control apparatus that is coupled to a communications network and that is operating under control of an application program. The interface comprises an integrated schematic view of symbols representing communications and including application and messaging control logic including a diagrammatic representation for a network message having icons representing data within said message, icons representing control functions for regulating networking behavior, and one or more messaging connector icons representing interconnections with the network. Control logic icons and symbols may be interconnected may connected to the data and control icons for use in setting data content and regulating messaging and network behavior. Abstract: Graphical user interfaces and method for building Boolean queries and viewing search results using search cells, combination cells, toolbar, and menu bar. Search cells are movable within a workspace and contain a text field, facet type designation, advanced button, and hit count. Categories are chosen using a category walker. Combination cells, a Boolean combination of two or more selected search cells, are also movable and contain a combine icon, hit count, and an expression field. The Boolean query is depicted in a folder tree hierarchy, where search folders are shown within combination folders, which are represented as logical AND, OR, or MINUS folder icons. An applet in a browser accesses a server through the Internet.

Abstract: Various illustrative examples of a synchronization mechanism are described. A synchronization schema may be adopted to allow an application to save configuration details for a synchronization operation in a format which may easily be discovered by other applications without the need of a registration/de-registration mechanism. The synchronization mechanism may be executed in response to user entered parameters specifying the type and other characteristics of operation.

Abstract: Enterprise information handling system storage solutions are configured automatically through a graphical user interface that accepts storage device and storage topology selections from an end user to automatically present a graphical image depicting interconnection devices that interface the storage devices. For example, cables with a color selected by the end user are depicted interfacing storage devices with the selected color. In one embodiment, switches are automatically selected and depicted for the storage devices and storage topology selected by the end user.

Abstract: A method for managing node-specific quorum roles in a cluster of nodes. The method comprises assigning a configuration change of node role attributes to a node in the cluster, with each attribute being represented by a bit of a binary value. The binary value corresponding to the specified node role attributes is converted to an integer value and the integer value is stored in a node record associated with the node. The node record is accessed to isolate each bit of the integer value associated with the node and the node role attributes assigned to the node are identified from each of the isolated bits of the integer value associated with the node. A determination of whether the configuration change can be safely supported by a configuration quorum of nodes required to represent the cluster's configuration accurately is made based on the identified node role attributes.

An embodiment of a method comprises identifying network paths for a system; identifying products and platforms for the system; applying application security for the system; analyzing security status for the system; and, based at least in part on the analysis of the security status, automatically identifying changes for the network paths for the system or the products and platforms for the system.

Abstract: Methods and computer readable media for generating displays of user-defined blocks of networking addresses on a map of an associated address space are provided. Each block of networking addresses is described in a user-defined table with a start address and a map size. The display for each block of network addresses may be rendered on the map at a location based on the relative position of the start address within the associated address space and of a size based on the mask size in relation to the associated address space.

Abstract: A system and method to visually navigate hierarchical data groups are provided. If a user wishes to graphically view network traffic for a particular business group of network nodes, a network topology navigation tool may be provided to display to the user such information that is relevant to the selected business group and the corresponding hierarchy level. The user may also be permitted to access more detailed connection information through appropriate drill-downs.

In an embodiment the configuration tool includes a data layer to store a configuration for an application server or a cluster of application servers.
