Abstract: A web-based application constructor can be used to construct a web display. The web-based application constructor can obtain data from heterogeneous data sources having Web Services schemas to produce the web display. The web display can contain page components and can display the data from at least some heterogeneous data sources. A versioning system can keep track of changes to page components, page layout, searches, and text to allow users to make changes without administrative approval.

Abstract: An aspect of the present invention enables a user to have a custom desired experience while accessing electronic files. A digital processing system provides the user the ability to define an experience profile with experience profile containing experience attributes. The user may be provided the ability to associate an experience profile with the electronic file. The digital processing system then controls the experience attributes to create a custom defined experience. As a result, two different electronic files (accessed using a single application) may be associated with two different experience profiles. In addition, experience attributes rooted in dissimilar applications may also be included in an experience profile.

Abstract: A method of providing content to a user uses a browser, connects to a server; and performs a check. The method provides a set of modules, and thereby forms a page of modules. The method customizes a first module in the set of modules, saves the customization, and executes a function provided by a module in the set of modules. Initially, the set of modules may include a default set of modules, which includes the first module and a second module. The first module may assume several shapes, and content presented by the first module automatically adjusts according to the shape of the first module to maximize a field of view of the content for the user. Preferably, the first and second modules are stacked such that a horizontal dimension of the first and second modules spans the width of a browser window.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed to facilitate avatar personalization in a virtual environment. A request to generate an avatar in the virtual environment to represent a requesting entity is received. Data pertaining to the requesting entity is retrieved, the data not specifying any visual appearance of the avatar. A proposed avatar is generated based on the retrieved data. The proposed avatar is output to the requesting entity.

Abstract: A quick-view user interface for assisting a user in performing a task and shielding the user from complex data. The quick-view user interface may include a window on a computer screen. The window may comprise a pane for displaying a subset of data, based on the user's role, from a set of data displayed on a full-view user interface. In addition, the full-view user interface may assist a user in performing a task by allowing the user to view the set of data. The full-view user interface may include a window on a computer screen comprising a first pane for displaying a set of data and a link engageable to open a second pane for displaying a subset of the set of data, the subset being selected based on the user's role.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a client device receives a query that specifies social, temporal and spatial parameters relative to a set of users (e.g., a source user or source user group). The client device determines degrees to which the specified parameters are related to a group of target users in social, temporal and spatial dimensions. The client device also determines an expected availability of one or more target users for interaction (e.g., interaction via particular types of communication session types, such as voice, video, text, etc.). The client device performs a processing function on at least one data object associated with the group of target users based on (i) whether the determined degrees of relation satisfy the specified parameters of the query, and (ii) the expected availability of the one or more target users in the group of target users.

Abstract: An apparatus for controlling a screen includes a storage area, an analyzer, and a controller. The storage area stores information indicative of one or more screen usage attributes. The analyzer determines a pattern of usage based on the stored information. The controller automatically changes a density of the screen from a first density to a second density based on the pattern of usage determined by the analyzer. The change to the second density produces a change in a size of one or more items displayed on the screen.

Abstract: A system to conduct a public-initiated opinion poll on a media space or in a consumer space is discussed. Simple activation of software- or hardware-based buttons or otherwise by speaking into or tapping on a device are provided and enables the public to express its likes/dislikes about anything, anyone, anywhere, anytime and merely when he/she decides to do so. Hence, this system replaces the current survey-based paradigm in which the surveyor decides when to ask what, and how from the public.

Abstract: A user-centric management application system and method for a security system that conceptualizes the security devices and the tasks to perform on the security devices as separate objects with common properties and behavior. Operators of the system create abstract containers, called dockviews, which the operator adds objects to in order to perform specific tasks. Because the operator assigns user access to dockviews and objects, the system tailors system access for both application users and tenants of the security system based on policy objectives. Dockviews have the ability to open in separate application windows to support priority display and isolation of critical management tasks. The system provides integrated user administration, event management and reports capability, a consistent “look and feel,” and system-wide automated event notification via a watchlist window.

Abstract: A host device and method for a distributed printing setup includes a plurality of image forming apparatuses registered to a database and a user interface (UI) generator to generate a UI screen to generate a workflow relating to the image forming apparatuses. When the distributed printing setup of a file to be printed is requested on the generated UI screen, a workflow generator generates a workflow by combining the image forming apparatuses to distribute the printing job to the registered image forming apparatuses.

Abstract: A method and system for an awareness service is provided. One or more collaborative contexts can be set for a first user within a set of users using the awareness service. One or more subsets of users can be defined within the set of users corresponding to the one or more collaborative contexts, respectively. Furthermore, a level of availability can be defined for the first user with respect to each of the subset of users. Next, an online status can be published on the awareness service for the first user. The online status can display an availability message to a second user. And, the availability message can have the highest level of availability selected from a group consisting of every level of availability defined for the first user with respect to every subset of users that includes the second user.

Abstract: Techniques for recording and replay of a live conference while still attending the live conference are described. A conferencing system includes a user interface generator, a live conference processing module, and a replay processing module. The user interface generator is configured to generate a user interface that includes a replay control panel and one or more output panels. The live conference processing module is configured to extract information included in received conferencing data that is associated with one or more conferencing modalities, and to display the information in the one or more output panels in a live manner (e.g., as a live conference). The replay processing module is configured to enable information associated with the one or more conferencing modalities corresponding to a time of the conference session prior to live to be presented at a desired rate, possibly different from the real-time rate, if a replay mode is selected in the replay control panel.

Abstract: An embodiment of the invention includes a system that tracks a user's pupillary response to content located on a web page. The system then determines a cognitive load for the user that is based on the measured response. Cognitive load refers to the total amount of mental activity imposed on working memory in any one instant. Further, the system may aggregate the cognitive load data for one user over time, for many different users, and/or for many different users over time. The cognitive load may be determined for different portions of a displayed page, such as a document object model (DOM) included on the page. The cognitive load may be specified for different elements that make up the DOM. Also, cognitive load may be apportioned over several different DOM elements at one moment in time or over a period of time. Other embodiments are described herein.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for dynamically selecting and ordering facets and/or facet values in a user interface. A user's “preference” concerning the selection and ordering of facets and/or facet values that the user desires to be displayed in the user interface is determined. Such user's preference may be determined based on monitoring the actions of the user (e.g., online activity) as well as possibly other types of information, such as the user's input and context of the user's faceted search. Upon determining the user's preference, facets and/or facet values are selected and ordered based on the user's preference and consequently displayed in the user's user interface. In this manner, the user is provided a more relevant and insightful perspective on the data set as the user sees the “best” information more quickly while performing less work to see and apply the facets and/or facet values.

Abstract: A computerized method for determining a model refresh rate for a model representing a list of network user identifiers includes receiving a first and a second model representing the list at a first and a second time, respectively. Similarity between the first and second model is calculated. If the similarity is less than a threshold value, the model refresh rate is a predetermined rate. If the similarity is equal to or exceeds the threshold value, the model refresh rate is decreased to a less frequent rate. A similarity between a reference model and a selected model in a same content category may be calculated. If the similarity is less than a threshold value, the model refresh rate for the selected model is a predetermined rate. If the similarity is equal to or exceeds the threshold value, the model refresh rate for the reference model is applied to the selected model.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with customizing a timeline for displaying account information about an entity are described. In one embodiment, a method includes configuring a timeline of tax account information by consolidating a history of the tax account information in a display of the timeline. Elements in the history are selected based on parameters that have been customized for a revenue authority. The elements include display properties of the timeline and tax account information. The example method may also include dynamically rendering the timeline as one of multiple display zones on a display screen based, at least in part, on the parameters. Rendering the display includes determining how to display each of the elements on the timeline. The processor configures the timeline and dynamically renders the timeline in response to receiving a request to display the timeline about an entity.

Abstract: A computer implemented method includes allowing a user to access a user-controlled social network profile page with posts in a specified order. A user is permitted to traverse an interface element across the specified order to establish a set position for the interface element. Access to posts is provided on a first side of the set position to define a viewable profile. Access to posts is blocked on a second side of the set position to define a non-viewable profile.

The system can also include a module configured to execute on the more or more electronic data processors, where the module can be configured to display a plurality of icons retained in a file associated with a particular user on a computer screen. The icons can comprise one or more assigned icons from an assigned icons list and candidate icons from a candidate icons list, where both the assigned and candidate icons are derived from a pool of icons. Also, the module can be configured to assign an icon to a currently displayed screen by utilizing a selection tool and placing the icon in the assigned icons list, where the icon is selected from the candidate icons list. The module can be further configured to return to the assigned screen when the assigned icon is selected.

Abstract: The patient device, designed for use by patients of reduced cognitive or physical ability, integrates with the network-based portal, designed for use by family members or nursing staff to customize the user experience of the patient. Using the portal the family member pushes user interface customizations as well as content and applications to be run on the patient device. The family member can also control the patient device remotely via the portal. The patient device collects usage data on the set of customizable interface components, and on the pushed content and applications. These data are sent as feedback to the portal, allowing the portal to show the family member which user interface features, content and applications are being used and which are not. Aggregate data collected via the portal generate ranking metrics used to aid in user interface feature selection.

Abstract: A method to obtain a cloud-stored virtual desktop includes a set of user preferences, applications and shortcuts to files that a user desires to access. The method includes (A) transferring from a client device to a cloud broker a virtual desktop request comprising a user identification and a client device type identification; (B) passing the virtual desktop request to a cloud desktop agent responsible for maintenance of virtual desktops and virtual desktop metadata in the cloud storage system; (C) selecting by the cloud desktop agent a list of available virtual desktops for the user and the client device type based on a comparison with the virtual desktop metadata; (D) transferring the list of available virtual desktops to the cloud broker; and (E) forwarding the list of available virtual desktops from the cloud broker to the client device to enable the user to select a virtual desktop to be opened.

The method may include: displaying a background picture on a displaying area of background picture; generating a client snapshot; when moving the client snapshot on the displaying area of background picture, determining a location of the client snapshot on the displaying area of background picture, intercepting an area picture covered by the client snapshot according to the location; and updating the client skin according to the intercepted area picture. By employing the technical solution of the present disclosure, flexibility of skin change of a client may be improved.

Abstract: One example of the system and method described herein may be used to operate or otherwise interact with a device from a mobile device by transposing an external user interface of the device for presentation at the mobile device. For example, using a contactless communication protocol, the mobile device may obtain from the device a device property used to transpose the external user interface. The device property may indicate an identity of the device, a type of device, a type of user interface or elements of the user interface, and/or other information that describes the device. Based on the device property, the mobile device may present a user interface that can be used to control a function of the device. In this manner, the mobile device may provide a user with its own (transposed) version, which may be customized by the user, of the external user interface.

Abstract: Techniques are described for providing a unique wallpaper for a new user profile on a graphical user interface of a computing device. An example method includes initiating, by a computing device, a new user profile setup process to create a user profile at the computing device, the computing device having at least one other existing user profile. The method further includes automatically selecting, by the computing device, a wallpaper from a set of two or more wallpapers, wherein each wallpaper of the set of two or more wallpapers comprises a different graphical image, wherein the wallpaper is not associated with any of the other user profiles of the computing device. The method also includes automatically associating the wallpaper with the new user profile, such that the computing device displays the wallpaper in response to an attempt to access the user profile of the computing device.

Abstract: A disclosed method detects user input to set wallpaper of a first operating system environment using an image data file, and sends the image data file from the first operating system environment to a second operating system environment along with a request to update wallpaper of the second operating system environment. The two operating system environments are independent and utilize a common kernel. The method sets the wallpaper of the second operating system environment using the image data file. The method may also establish a bi-directional client-server communication channel between the operating system environments, and send the request to update wallpaper of the second operating system environment via the bi-directional client-server communication channel. An apparatus that performs the method includes a programmable processor, and memory containing executable instructions. The processor runs multiple operating system environments utilizing a common kernel.

Abstract: A system for displaying the listings of files and/or folders in one of a plurality of different views (e.g., gallery view or list view). In particular embodiments, the system determines which of the views to display in the listings in based on: (1) the types of files to be displayed; (2) a specified preference of a content sharer; and/or (3) a specified preference of a content recipient. Various embodiments are particularly useful for displaying lists of files that a content sharer shares with a content recipient via a URL within the context of a synched file sharing system.

In one embodiment, the methods and apparatuses for presenting content identifies a preference corresponding to a user; detects a current display window; and prefetches at least one audio/visual content in response, in part, to the current display window and the preference.

Abstract: Exemplary media content user interface systems and methods are disclosed herein. An exemplary method includes a media content access subsystem displaying a plurality of display elements topographically distributed throughout a graphical representation of a virtual world in accordance with one or more distribution heuristics, detecting a user interaction, and dynamically adjusting the topographical distribution of the one or more display elements in accordance with the user interaction. Corresponding systems and methods are also disclosed.
