Abstract: In one embodiment, a computer-implemented method for graphically indicating a progress of multiple parts of a task involves 1) dividing the task, as a whole, into a plurality of work units, and 2) as the task is executed, and for each of the work units, separately indicating, via a graphical user interface, whether work was performed for each task part during each work unit. Other embodiments are also disclosed.

Abstract: A contact management method and system is provided. The method includes presenting, by a computer processor via a dashboard of a graphical user interface, a user name icon associated with a user. The computer processor presents a list of names associated with users and receives a selection for a first contact name. A file sharing option between the user and a user associated with the first contact name is enabled. The computer processor receives a selection for a second contact name and in response presents an internal network contacts map comprising the user name icon connected to the first contact name via a first link and the user name icon connected to the second contact name via a second link. The first link comprises an attribute indicating the file sharing option and the second link comprises an attribute indicating that the file sharing option is not enabled.

Abstract: Methods, media, and systems are provided for presenting potential matches for address book entries across multiple online applications. Interaction between a web site provider, telecommunications network provider, and third-party data sources enable presentation of an input form that can be utilized across applications for a number of different types of information. Potential matches are automatically displayed based on the information provided in an application-independent user-input form. The retrieval of data is for any type of information that may be applicable to the particular software application for which the retrieval is taking place. Computer-readable media and systems are provided for performing methods of presenting potential matches in address book information across a plurality of internet software applications. Computer-readable media for performing methods of facilitating requests for information from one or more user address book databases are also provided.

Abstract: A method and system are provided providing electronic communications between users in a similar geographic location. Mobile devices determine geographic location information based on signals received from external devices, such as GPS satellites or cell sites, and web browsers determine geographic location using external devices or third party software, such as Google Loader, or based on the IP address of the computer running the web browser. The system receives geographic location information from a mobile device or web browser in addition to a user-input message. The system distributes the message to users of the system with geographic locations within a predetermined distance from the geographic location that the message was input.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of downloading contents corresponding to a plurality of icons displayed on a display of a terminal from a content server in the form of a package, and allowing a user to create a content-related chart to upload the created chart to the content server. The method includes: displaying, by a terminal, a plurality of first display icons downloaded from a content server storing icons corresponding to contents; displaying, by the terminal, second display icons, which remain after discarding one or more icons selected from the first display icons or replacing one or more icons selected from the first display icons with other icons; and collectively downloading, by the terminal, a plurality of contents corresponding to the second display icons, which remain after the discarding or the replacing, in the form of a package according to a download command.

Abstract: A spatial layout of zones of a virtual area in a network communication environment is displayed. A user can have a respective presence in each of one or more of the zones. Navigation controls and interaction controls are presented. The navigation controls enable the user to specify where to establish a presence in the virtual area. The interaction controls enable the user to manage interactions with one or more other communicants in the network communication environment. A respective presence of the user is established in each of one or more of the zones on response to input received via the navigation controls. Respective graphical representations of the communicants are depicted in each of the zones where the communicants respectively have presence.

Abstract: Provided is a communication method using a three-dimensional (3D) image display device. In the communication method, motion information is determined using a motion image obtained by photographing a user's motion indicating the user's request in relation to an opposite party, distance information indicating the distance between the user who is moving and the 3D image display device is determined, and then, the user's request is determined based on the motion information and the distance information.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for loading media in a digital cinema system is described. Specifically, the digital cinema system has a received storage medium and a local storage medium. A user is prompted to present the received storage medium. Responsive to the user specifying the received storage medium, a list of image programs is displayed. Responsive to the user specifying the image program, a list of audio programs is displayed. Responsive to the user specifying the audio program, how much storage space is required to store the selected image program and audio program on the local storage medium is determined. If the storage space required on the local storage medium is insufficient to load the selected image and audio programs, a warning indicative of insufficient storage space is displayed. Each selected program is then authenticated.

Abstract: Advertisements displayed in a web page are enabled to be changed as a context of the web page changes without reloading the web page. A first set of one or more advertisements may be displayed on a web page. One or more of the displayed advertisements may be replaced with one or more alternative advertisements. Selection of the alternative advertisements is triggered based on the occurrence of one or more events that cause a change in a context of the web page. The display of the alternative advertisements is performed dynamically, without the web page needing to be reloaded. In this manner, the advertisements displayed on a web page may be changed based on the change in web page context, to provide advertisements to users that correspond to the changing context.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and techniques for facilitating access to content stored remotely, for example, as part of a virtual machine infrastructure or elsewhere in a networked environment, using a uniform mechanism are provided. Example embodiments provide an Enhanced Virtual Desktop Management Server/System with a Content Abstraction Layer which enables users to access their data stored as part of a virtual machine environment, or replicated otherwise on a network, using a generic API. The API can be incorporated into a web browser or other third party interface to provide access to the users' data without needing to remote a bitmap representation of a virtual desktop display. Accordingly, users can access their data, applications, and settings regardless of the type of access device and regardless of whether the corresponding virtual desktop is running in the data center, provisioned in the datacenter but running on a client device, or not running at all.

Abstract: Systems and methods of arranging a plurality of icons on a touch sensitive display device of a computing device include receiving contact information from the touch sensitive display device indicating a first and a second one of the plurality of icons have been moved until they touch each other on the touch sensitive display device. A new folder is automatically created responsive to the received contact information indicating the first and second icons have been moved until they touch. The new folder includes stored resources of the computing device associated with the first and the second icons. The first and second icons are replaced on the touch sensitive display device with a new icon associated with the new folder.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for automatically uploading media content from a mobile device to an online service provider can include receiving, in the mobile device, identifying information corresponding to a user account associated with at least one of a plurality of online service providers; capturing media content with a media input component included in the mobile device; and after the media content is captured, automatically uploading to the at least one online service provider the captured media content and the identifying information, without receiving user input contemporaneous with the automatic uploading that specifies that the captured media content is to be uploaded. The mobile device can further include a wireless communication component configured to wirelessly send data to and wirelessly receive data from the plurality of online service providers, which can be external to the mobile device.

Abstract: An automatic graphics delivery system that operates in parallel with an existing Web site infrastructure is provided. The system streamlines the post-production process by automating the production of media through content generation procedures controlled by proprietary tags placed by an author within URLs embedded within Web documents.

Abstract: Embodiments include a program for transferring of data from a source computer to a location on a target computer utilizing a drag-and-drop operation and a spring-loaded portal. I/O devices are monitored for mouse input that includes coordinates of a mouse pointer. Whether an end-user is utilizing the mouse pointer to perform the drag-and-drop operation is determined. The spring-loaded portal is expanded from a closed position to an open position. A screen snapshot image of the location on the target computer is retrieved and overlaid on the spring-loaded portal. The transferring of data from the source computer to the location on the target computer is executed, wherein the location on the target computer is previewable at the source computer through the spring-loaded portal. Whether to abort the transferring of data is determined. The spring-loaded portal is minimized from the open position to the closed position.

Abstract: Methods and systems for transmitting data are disclosed. In one embodiment a portable electronic device comprises a processor-implemented user interface module to cause the presentation of a first information field to a user as part of a graphical user interface in the portable electronic device, and to receive information entered or data identification in the first information field. A data transmitting module commences transmitting the information entered or the data identified over a network in response to the user interface module detecting that the user has navigated away from the first information field.

Abstract: A method comprises displaying a mail server information screen, and receiving connection information via the mail server information screen. Further, the method comprises displaying an address page, and receiving recipient information via the address page. In addition, the method comprises displaying a content page, and receiving content in the content page. Additionally, an electronic mail message having the content is compiled, and the electronic mail message is sent to a recipient utilizing the connection information and recipient information.

Abstract: Data files are selected for downloading from a host device to an electronic device via a sync process. Once the sync process starts, the electronic device provides the user with dynamic sync status information so that the user, for example, knows how much data has been downloaded, how much time is remaining in the download, what data files are being downloaded, etc. In addition, the user is also provided with the capability to obtain general summary information about the data files downloaded after the sync process is complete, as well as detailed summary information that may, for example, provide the user the names of each song downloaded and the size of each file.

Abstract: A system and method for delivering business intelligence content to one or more mobile devices from multiple source reporting systems comprise a dynamic adaptor utilizing a networking protocol. The dynamic adaptor comprises at least one source specific adaptor that abstracts interaction with the at least one source reporting system and generates the result in a common format as metadata. A metadata manager is employed for storing, processing, and retrieving an information describing the at least one metadata from the at least one source specific adaptor. A presentation engine combines the metadata with the information from the at least one source specific adaptor that corresponds to an object selected by a user. The common report metadata is utilized to retrieve the at least one information from the metadata manager and to selectively combine with the metadata when the user requests for the previously retrieved information.

One aspect provides a method including opening a file transfer application on an information handling device having an internal storage device; providing a source display area indicating a source storage device; providing a destination display area indicating a destination storage device; responsive to movement of one or more file icons a predetermined threshold amount beyond a boundary separating said source display area and said destination display area, change one or more indications to indicate to a user a destination storage device to which one or more files is to be transferred, said changing further comprising modifying screen brightness of the source display area; and responsive to movement of said one or more file icons a predetermined threshold amount beyond said boundary, transferring said one or more files to said destination storage device. Abstract: Presenting content within an application on a device is disclosed. Receiving notification of new content within an application at a device is disclosed. Presenting the received notification at the device is disclosed. Receiving a selection of the notification, and displaying the new content in the screen directly following receiving the selection of the notification are disclosed. Notification can be received outside the application, e.g., by posting notification on a social network, posting notification to a web site, and posting a message to a user's avatar in a virtual world. A selection can be received while the device is offline, in which case the new content displayed is that content stored on the device.

Abstract: Techniques for embedding metadata into a piece of content are described herein. With use of the embedded metadata, an application takes one or more actions specified by the embedded metadata upon selection of the content. In some instances, the content comprises an image, video, or any other form of content that a user may consume. Using the example of an image, the techniques may embed metadata within the image to create an image file that includes both the image and the embedded metadata. Then, when an application of a computing device selects (e.g., receives, opens, etc.) the image file, the application or another application may perform one or more actions specified by the metadata.

Abstract: Access to a virtual music card associated with a song and having a plurality of virtual sides, wherein at least one virtual side comprises an option for streaming the song, is provided to a user device. A selection of the option to stream the song is received from the user device, and an audio file of the song is streamed to the user device, in response to the selection of the option. The virtual music card may comprise a first virtual side showing an image of an artist associated with the song, and a second virtual side comprising an option to stream the song. The virtual music card may also comprise a third side showing an attribute associated with the artist, and a fourth side showing a graphic design.

Abstract: A first communication terminal includes a first communication device, a first touch panel for displaying motion picture contents, and a first processor for accepting input of a hand-drawing image. The first processor transmits a hand-drawing image input during display of the motion picture contents and start information for identifying a point of time when input of the hand-drawing image at the motion picture contents is started to a second communication terminal. The second communication terminal includes a second touch panel for displaying motion picture contents, a second communication device for receiving the hand-drawing image and start information from the first communication terminal, and a second processor for displaying the hand-drawing image from the point of time when input of the hand-drawing image at the motion picture contents is started on the second touch panel, based on the start information.

Abstract: A communication icon represents a shared connection allowing members of an online group to interact with each other and participate in different activities together. The icon through which the group interacts resides on each group member's desktop and has many attributes including click activation modes and drag and drop functionality. The icon provides each group member with a representation of the group's shared relationship. Any group member can change the group icon and have that change propagated to the computers of the other members of the group. The icon can be activated for both non-verbal and verbal communications as well as activity sharing. Online members of the group are kept apprised of the group's status and activities via a displayed status bar.

Abstract: Firmware stored in a printer such as an inkjet printer can be rewritten by executing a firmware rewriting process which is not dependent upon the internal processing status of the printer. A printer 1 for executing a printing process based on print data sent from a host computer has a rewriting unit 38 for executing a firmware rewriting process, a print unit 37 for executing processes other than the firmware rewriting process, a rewrite command interpreting unit 32 for detecting a rewrite command that precedes the transmission of rewrite data required for the firmware rewriting process, and a control unit 36 for executing the firmware rewriting process with a priority over all other processes when a rewrite command is detected.

The communication initiation information may be selectable to facilitate communication with the first entity. The publication system also includes a receiving module configured to receive a lead data record from a communication system for communication between the first entity and a second entity via the contact module. The publication system also includes a fee assessment module configured to receive the lead data record and to assess a fee to the first entity.

Abstract: Systems and methods of batch uploading of content to a web-based collaboration environment are disclosed. In one aspect, embodiments of the present disclosure include a method, which may be implemented on a system, for receiving an upload request from a user through a user interface to upload multiple items and sequentially uploading each of the multiple items to the host server. In one embodiment, the user is able to navigate away from the user interface through which the upload request was submitted prior to completion of the uploading of each of the multiple items to the host server. In addition, the upload of the multiple items is not interrupted if the user accesses a link on the user interface causing another user interface to launch in a browser.

Abstract: Content formatting and installation techniques are described. In an implementation, a method includes receiving one or more inputs for initiating an installation process of one or more content items and performing the installation process without user intervention. The performing of the installation process includes obtaining a content package, from over a network, which includes a manifest which describes a content type for each of the content items. Each of the content items is installed for use by an application module based on a respective content type.

Abstract: A file transfer method is operative in a mobile computing device having a display interface that supports gesture-based control operations. The mobile computing device includes a remote access client. One or more other computers associated with the user each maintain connections to a Web-based remote access service. The user desires to copy and/or move resources between first and second of his or her connected computers. According to the file transfer method, after receipt of data indicating a first gesture requesting a copy or move operation with respect to the resource in the file system, an overview of one or more target devices is displayed. The overview is a folder level view of all folders and files located on the target devices, which are the one or more other computers also having a connection (or capable of having a connection) to the Web-based remote access service. In addition to displaying the folder-level view, an additional display element is shown.

In one instance, the method may include a computing device providing a first session identifier to a first computing device; receiving a second session identifier from a second computing device; determining whether to establish a communication connection between the first and second computing devices, based at least in part on the first and second session identifiers; establishing the communication connection between the first and second computing devices based on the result of the determination; and in response to receiving, from the first computing device, an indication of an intent to transfer a content item, facilitating transfer of the content item from the first computing device to the second computing device via the communication connection. Abstract: A method of offering a promotional product to a user at a digital imaging device having a display. The method comprises the steps of: receiving an order from the user at the digital imaging device for an imaging service or product; and simultaneously processing the order for the imaging service or product at the display and displaying, on the display, a motion image comprising the promotional product, wherein the promotional product is different than the imaging service or product. In a preferred embodiment, the promotional product displayed on the display comprises a user-supplied image.

Abstract: Systems and methods that enable conference attendee(s) to invite others to the conference and provide a rich set of contextual information about the conference upfront to the invitee(s). A communicator component enables document related to the conference to be automatically shared and can further supply the name of the document and the location of the document. Hence, an invitee can make an informed decision about joining the conference and evaluate relevance of the conference up front (e.g., prior to joining).

Abstract: An apparatus and method for playing data, played in a device connected with a portable terminal, in another device are provided. An apparatus for storing data of a peripheral device in a portable terminal includes a user interface (UI) managing unit and a data processing unit. The UI managing unit is configured to display, in the event of connection with a peripheral device, a UI for controlling data played in the peripheral device. The data processing unit is configured to copy the played data of the peripheral device through the UI and display a list of the copied data. The data processing unit is further configured to transmit data selected from the displayed list to another device.

Abstract: Methods and devices provide a gesture activated file sharing functionality enabling users to share files with other nearby computing devices. The file sharing functionality may include establishing wireless links with nearby devices and determine their relative locations. The computing device may detect a file sharing gesture and transmit files to or request files from a nearby device in response to the gesture. Base on gesture parameters, e.g., direction, speed and shape, and computing device attitude parameters, e.g., tilt angle and pointing direction, the computing device may identify a targeted device to which a file may be transmitted. The computing device may request user verification of the identified device and send a request to transmit files to the targeted device. The computing devices may transmit files using networks and addresses provided over the device-to-device communication links.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for monitoring downloading of media programs to media devices over a network. One exemplary method involves providing, to a message server communicating with the media device over the network, a download request for downloading the media program from a content source coupled to the network to the media device, receiving, from the message server, status information for the download of the media program by the media device, and providing, to a client device coupled to the network, the download status information received from the message server.

Abstract: A user interface(s) in which the displays of different devices become “synchronized” when the devices are brought into close proximity with one another. One exemplary embodiment permits drag-and-drop procedures that originate on one device to be terminated on the other. Illustratively, the solution could be handled in the following manner: The user would place the second device alongside or in close proximity to the first device, The two devices would detect each other, The user would touch the representation (such as an icon) of the party on the second device's display that they wish to add to the call, The user would slide the representation across the first device/second device border onto the first device's screen, The user would slide the representation to a spotlight or hot spot and then lift the finger from the screen, The party would be connected to the call.

Abstract: A portable terminal includes a page storage section, in which a Web page is temporarily stored while the Web page is being browsed. Thus, when the same Web page is browsed the next time, a control section compares the Web page with the previously stored page contents and moves the display range of the page, so that the updated portion is displayed at a predetermined position on a display section.

Abstract: Overlaying images in automated insurance policy form generation includes electronically converting a first form in a first format to a second format to and in response to receiving a Web page request, electronically communicating the second form to be displayed within the Web browser instead of electronically communicating the first form in the first format to be displayed within the Web browser. In the case where the first format is Adobe® portable document format (PDF) and the second format is Joint Picture Expert Group (JPEG) format, this enables the user of the browser to overlay images on the forms within the Web page interface of the browser, while it appears to the user they are overlaying images on the original PDF versions of the forms. The final integrated PDF form is then generated from the data indicating the location of the overlay image on the underlying JPEG form.

Abstract: A workflow file includes body data and information defining a user who can process the file. In a file processing system including a plurality of file processing devices each having a touch panel, when a first file processing device to which a first user who can process the workflow file logs in detects that a first gesture of identifying the workflow file and a second gesture of indicating a second user who will perform processing subsequently have been performed on the touch panel, the second user is identified based on the second gesture and the defining information, and a second file processing device corresponding to the second user is reported to that effect. When the second file processing device detects that a third gesture for making a request for processing of the workflow file has been performed, the second file processing device acquires the body data of the workflow file.

Abstract: Computer-based methods and devices for identifying devices and objects that can be targeted for the purpose of establishing a communication session are described. In an example embodiment, a mobile handset displays a visual indication of the location of devices in proximity relative to the location and orientation of the mobile handset. A mobile handset includes object recognition logic for determining when the mobile handset is targeting another device with which the mobile handset is authorized to communicate. In some cases, the targeted device may be a non-computing object serving as a proxy for another computing device.

Abstract: A digital image display device for displaying a collection of digital media assets, comprising: a display screen; a network connection; a user interface for receiving input from a user of the digital image display device; and a program memory. The program memory stores executable instructions for receiving a set of digital media assets and associated metadata using the network connection; displaying a digital media asset on the display screen; identifying a subject depicted in the displayed digital media asset; determining a particular set of feedback message choices responsive to the determined subject; displaying the particular set of feedback message choices on the display screen; receiving input via the user interface to select a particular feedback message choice; and using the network connection to provide the selected feedback message.

A processing element is defined for a link referenced in the host interface. The processing element determines an address of an information resource referenced by the link. An area representation element specifies locations for displaying the information resource on the host interface. A display element is defined for displaying content of the information resource on the host interface and is linked to the processing element and the area representation element. The linked display element retrieves the address of the information resource from the processing element and retrieves the location selected by the user from the area representation element. The linked display element retrieves content of the information resource from the retrieved address and displays the retrieved content in the selected location on the host interface.

Abstract: An electronic device and a method for providing an extended user interface in an electronic device are provided. The electronic device comprises a user interface and a display configured to display data objects. The device is configured to detect selection of a data object on the display, detect dragging of the selected data object to a border of the display and to detect an effort to drag the object over the border in a given direction outside the display. A predetermined action is performed in the device on the basis of the detected effort and the detected direction.

Abstract: A method provides a user with access to resources associated with a life or work event by enabling the user to perform certain operations, including specifying a list of one or more tasks corresponding to the event, specifying one or more resources associated with each task, indicating a task order (including an indication of whether two or more tasks in the task list are to be performed in an order-dependent or in an order-independent manner), and formatting the task list into a presentation format. A system with user interface controls enables a user to perform certain operations, including designating an event, generating a list of tasks associated with the event, and specifying an order for performance of the tasks in the task list that may be followed in processing an instance of the event.

Abstract: Improved techniques and systems for delivery and acquisition of digital assets are disclosed. The techniques and systems are especially suitable and useful for delivering digital assets (e.g., media assets) that are available for acquisition and electronic delivery from online stores to electronic devices. In accordance with one aspect, when a digital asset is acquired form an online store via an electronic device associated with a user, the digital asset can be arranged for delivery to a number of other of electronic devices also associated with the user. It will be appreciated that the digital asset can be delivered and acquired without requiring explicit user input or instruction in accordance with another aspect. Other aspects of the techniques and systems include customization of configuration and user interfaces that are provided to facilitate acquisition of digital assets in a more efficient manner.
