Abstract: A printing method, including offering a choice to create special pages in a print job; simultaneously displaying a plurality of selectable features, each feature corresponding to a category of special pages; receiving a selection of a first selectable feature; displaying a child window including selectable options of the first selectable feature; receiving a selection of at least one option corresponding to a first range of pages; and displaying a summary view window, wherein the summary window includes the first range of pages and the at least one selected option that the user has selected for the first range of pages.

Abstract: A device driver module for supporting the use of an external device by a computing device which executes an operating system, the device driver module including an initialization portion which is called by the operating system, whereupon the initialization portion detects the presence of a driver plug-in module, obtains information from the detected driver plug-in module, and passes the information from the detected driver plug-in module to the operating system, and also including an operation portion which accesses and executes a functional portion of the detected plug-in module, receives from the operating system an event notification corresponding to the external device and, in the case that the detected driver plug-in module accepts the event notification, passes the event notification to the detected driver plug-in module.

Abstract: Provided are a user interface method of enabling a user to conveniently use a terminal allowing multi-tasking, and a computer readable recording medium storing the method. The user interface method includes classifying applications capable of being executed by the apparatus into groups, in such a manner as to classify one or more applications that perform similar functions into the same group; and displaying a window for executing a corresponding application, for each of the groups.

Abstract: A computing device 100 is provided that includes a graphic user interface (GUI) 104 and a processor 102 coupled to the GUI 104. The computing device 100 also includes a memory 106 coupled to the processor 102. The memory 106 stores a tabular application for execution by the processor 102, the tabular application providing, on the GUI 104, a tabular environment that supports both column rules and cell rules.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for presenting a tab-based graphic user interface (GUI) having more tabs than can be fitted across a screen side for a computer system. The computer system can be handheld devices such as personal digital assistants (PDA's) and cell phones. The tab-based GUI displays as many tabs as possible on the screen side. The on-screen tabs are arranged in a sequence on a side of the display screen wherein each of these displayed tabs is adapted to be selected by a user for entering into a file category. The off-screen and on-screen tabs form a circular array conceptually such that a portion of the circular array being displayed on the screen side is the sequence of the on-screen tabs. In response to the selection of a on-screen tab, the selected on-screen tab is automatically scrolled to the center position of the screen side. In response to the selection of another on-screen tab, the newly selected on-screen tab is automatically scrolled to the center position of the screen side.

Abstract: A graphical user interface is provided for defining parameters for a process to be executed by a computer. Additionally, methods, systems and software applications are provided for presenting the graphical user interface to a user. In one implementation, the graphical user interface comprises at least two tab panel elements, each tab panel element comprising means for entering a set of parameters that are usable to carry out the process. Each set of parameters may be different to and independent of other sets of parameters. Further, only the set of parameters of a selected tab panel element may be relevant for carrying out the process on the computer.

Abstract: A workflow, enterprise, and mail-enabled application server and platform supports distributed computing and remote execution of web applications. Lotus Domino online services (DOLS) is used by a web site administrator to configure Internet Notes (iNotes) clients to auto download from server, thus providing iNotes clients with web access using HTTP with various browsers, and with local processing and replication. A local run time model comprises a hierarchy of models including object data store model, security model, indexing model, replication model, agent workflow model and mail model. DOLS provides a layered security model that allows flexibility for controlling access to all or part of an application. The highest level of security is managed through a database access control list (ACL). Further refinements within the security model provide access to specific documents, and their views, forms or folders, and include read access lists, write access lists, form access lists and readers and authors fields.

Abstract: A user interface for viewing reference data associated with a conceptual entity and for execution of one or more complex processes for manipulating the data includes a process panel having one or more on-screen objects for the execution of the complex processes and a process work area for displaying a state of selected complex processes. A data viewer includes a content pane for the display of the reference data and one or more on-screen objects for selectively displaying at least a portion of the reference data and the process panel and data viewer are framed within a common window. The process panel and data viewer are selectably viewable and occupy overlapping positions within the common window.

Abstract: A printer system can be used for displaying and printing a print job, the print job including at least print job level properties and print job exception attributes. The printer system can include a display device that displays the print job, a memory that stores the print job and a controller that controls the print job displayed on the display device to display only the print job exception attributes of the print job that are different from the print job level properties. Moreover, a graphic user interface can be used for displaying a print job and can be used with a printer system. The graphic user interface can include a first window that displays the print job level properties of the print job and a second window that displays only the print job exception attributes of the print job that are different from the print job level properties.

Abstract: A graphical user interface for a computer-assisted motion video editing system directs a user through the process of editing a video program. The graphical user interface may also enables a user to plan a video program. Alternatively selectable interfaces within a single window interface, each of which provide a group of planning, capturing, editing, and recording functions can provide such an interface for producing a video program. Other simplifications to the user interface can be provided to assist in editing, such as by maintaining a video display window for displaying the edited video program at a fixed position for all available editing operations. Additionally, video information can be captured directly into a timeline representation of a video program, rather than a bin. Using a storyboard tied to the capturing process, a user is directed through the process of collecting and capturing the video clips to be used in the video program.

Abstract: In an image processing apparatus which has a plurality of overlapping entry screens, a desired one is selectively displayed and various operation conditions are set on the selected entry screen. The contents of all the set operation conditions are displayed in the form of a list. The list is displayed together with an entry screen.

Abstract: A method and system for adding application defined properties and application defined property sheet pages are provided. The application defined properties may be added to a list of system defined properties. Once added, the application defined properties may be displayed and edited. In addition, a user may select several objects, display the properties common to all of the objects in a list, and edit the common properties. Moreover, application defined property sheet pages may be added to a set of system defined property sheet pages. A user may then display and edit the application defined property sheet pages. Also, a user may select several objects, display the properties common to all of the objects on a per-property browsing list, and edit the common properties. Abstract: A method and apparatus allowing items to be relatively positioned within an electronic document is disclosed. By positioning the items relative to each other, as opposed to absolutely with respect to the page, this allows for a greater versatility in the page layout. Utilization of this method and apparatus means that items can be automatically aligned on a page. Furthermore if additional items are inserted, the position of the original items can be automatically adjusted to ensure that correct alignment is maintained.

Abstract: An operating system provides extensions through which application developers may extend the capabilities of a shell of the operating system. For example, application developers may add menu items to context menus for objects that are visible within an integrated system name space. In addition, developers may add property sheet pages for such objects. Application developers also have the option of providing per-instance icons for each instance of an object. Application developers may provide data object extension handlers for customizing data sources on a per-object class basis and may provide drop target extension handlers on a per-object class basis to customize drop target behavior. Developers may additionally provide copy-hook handlers to regulate file system operations on objects. Developers may also extend the functionality provided by the shell of the operating system by adding their own custom name spaces to the integrated system name space.

Abstract: The mouse cursor is moved over the register of a register dialog once a drop-and-drag action has been initiated, then the register under the mouse cursor is automatically moved to the foreground after a variable time interval, and the contents can thus be seen. Process of making the item visible is initiated just by locating the mouse over the register of the concealed registered dialog. The invention can be extended to normal mouse movements (that is to say that other than drag drop.) Dropping an object on to a drop destination in a concealed register of a register dialog for drag and drop actions and drag and drop between the registers of a tabbed dialog or the pages of a workbook (such as the various tables in Excel, for example.

Abstract: A method and system for controlling a tabbed pane (305) in a graphical user interface of a data processing system. The tabbed pane consists of several overlying panels (230) resembling a stack of pieces of paper lying on top of one another, with only the topmost panel that is visible to a user; a selection tab (235) is attached to each panel. When the number of the tabs is high, they are organised into two or more alignments. In the tabbed pane of the invention, the alignments are arranged along different edges of the visible panel. Therefore, the tabs are distributed along the border of the visible panel, so that each time a tab is selected by the user the corresponding panel is popped up and made visible without affecting the position of the other tabs.

Abstract: A user interface for image acquisition devices that provides common control of common features of different image acquisition devices while retaining the flexibility needed to provide tailored control that take advantage of unique features of each different image acquisition device. The user interface includes a control area for displaying a property sheet. The property sheet has a plurality of property pages, each of which has an interface for image acquisition device control and each of which has a tab describing the control provided by that property page. At least one property page has an interface for core image acquisition device control, and at least one property page has an interface for device-dependent image acquisition device control. The user interface also provides a property sheet with a property page that attractively provides plural interfaces for control in that property page. The property page includes a control region for providing control and a button region having multiple buttons.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for informing users that data associated with one or more concurrently-running components has changed. In a preferred embodiment, the system and method comprise a GUI that includes a plurality of tabs associated with independently selectable components. When data associated with a particular component changes, the component's tab is made to flash. The flashing continues until the user selects the component. In a second preferred embodiment, when the tab associated with the component whose data has changed is not currently displayed, a different GUI element is made to flash until the tab is displayed.

Abstract: A graphical user interface displays a unique graphical indexing element such as a tab for each engaged and non-engaged messaging session. The user chooses which messaging session to make engaged by selecting its graphical indexing element. The graphical indexing elements have various distinctive characteristics to indicate the status of their respective messaging sessions, such as engaged, non-engaged with no unread messages, or non-engaged with at least one unread message. The messaging sessions may all be docked, in which event the engaged messaging session is displayed in a window pane set and the other messaging sessions are not displayed, or may be selectively undocked, in which event the engaged messaging session and the undocked messaging sessions are displayed in respective window pane sets. The engaged window pane set supports the communication of original or predefined messages between the user's digital device and the pal's messaging-enabled digital device, regardless of capability.

Abstract: A computer user interface system and method arranges a set of information hosted on a computer into a set of books, where each book includes a subset of the set of information, labels each book with a respective portion of the subset of the set of information, and selects a book from the set of books. Selecting the book from the set of books includes steps of displaying the respective portions of the books as a book document image that includes pages which correspond to the respective portions of the books, generating a command for moving through the pages, displaying an animated image of the pages of the book document being at least one of flipped, scrolled, slid and flashed images, and selecting the book when a selected one of the pages containing a selection portion of the book is earlier displayed.

Abstract: A software program provides a unified, ever-present user interface which manages a user's interaction with other software programs. The software program includes an executable portion and a dynamic linked library (DLL). The software program uses hooking and subclassing in a Windows environment to gain control over when and where display of the user interface occurs.

Abstract: The disclosed method enables a computer system user to efficiently modify attributes of objects displayed by the system and its software applications. Upon selection of a displayed target object by a user, a pop-up menu appears containing a ‘Set Attributes to . . . ’ option. Upon selection of that option by the user, the system cursor changes appearance, and the user is allowed to locate and select a source object separate from the target object (potentially, in a stored file or display window separate from the file and window containing the target object). Upon selection of the source object by the user, the attributes of the source object are immediately transferred to the target object, the display window containing the target object reappears (if it had been hidden by the action of locating the source object), and the display cursor appearance reverts to its normal form.
