Abstract: A computer-implemented user notification method includes displaying, at user-accessible locations on a graphical display of a mobile device, notifications corresponding to user interest, preference, and frequency of interaction with particular applications or activities on the mobile device. By increasing ease of interaction with particular notifications and advertisements that are of increased importance and relevance for the user, a higher click through and conversion rate is anticipated.

Abstract: A border menu can be presented on four sides of an outer border of a graphical user interface. The border menu can be presented at the top of a stack of a graphical user interface. The border menu can include a set of user-selectable options, each selectable via a pointing device, each of the user-selectable options being associated with at least one of an icon or text button. At least one of the user-selectable options can be presented along each of the four sides of the outer border of the border menu. Selection of each of the user-selectable options can result in triggering an event, which results in firing of a programmatic action to run executable code for a corresponding one of the user-selectable options. At least a portion of the user-selectable options can include application-specific options for an application running on the computing device.

Abstract: An information input device includes a display device that displays an information input screen image and a touch-panel that is arranged on the display device and specifies a designated position on the information input screen image. On a function setting area, a plurality of function setting keys are displayed and, if a flick operation to the right made by the input device on the function setting area is detected, detailed setting items corresponding to each of the function setting keys are displayed on a detailed settings area. Consequently, contents of detailed settings can be displayed at one time in correspondence with each of the function setting keys. Therefore, it becomes possible for the user to easily confirm whether or not function setting is appropriate, and to smoothly select a function.

Abstract: Techniques for using a proxy server are described herein. In response to a request received from a client for accessing a Web page provided from a remote Web server over a network, a proxy server retrieves the Web page from the remote Web server and presents the Web page to the client. The proxy server presents an input interface to the client to allow a user of the client to log into the proxy server without having to type at the client. The proxy server causes one or more keys in an input field of the Web page to be entered without a user having to type at the client. Thereafter, the proxy server intercepts traffic between the client and the remote Web server over the network.

Abstract: After positioning the cursor and pressing-and-holding a mouse button to begin a drag, a user continues to drag the cursor out of and into plural popped up regions. While the cursor is within a region, an associated function effects the displayed graphical information in a particular way, such as continuously panning, drawing, zooming, or rotating. Upon rolling-out of a region without entering a contiguous region, the last function continues to execute and all popped up regions are removed such that the user may utilize the entire display without being switched to another function. In a simple form, after release of the mouse button, a tool may zoom out if the user held the mouse substantially stationary and zoom in on a rectangle if the mouse was dragged. Reducing the number of times a user clicks by eliminating the step of selecting a function should help avoid repetitive strain injuries.

The first set of user-activatable affine functions includes a move function to move the object in the workspace and a resize function to resize the object. The electronic device is then connected to the current network by communicatively coupling with a Bluetooth wireless device coupled with the current network.

Abstract: An enhancement to e-mail user interfaces and message formats includes a dynamic preview window to view and retrieve attachments and summaries of e-mail messages directly in the e-mail list view or inbox view without opening an e-mail message. The efficient viewing mechanism further allows previews without cluttering the listing of the e-mails in the inbox by allowing the client to detect special preview instructions within an e-mail and run executables within the preview window. The enhancement is applicable to standalone e-mail clients (POP or IMAP based) and to web-based e-mail systems.

An example system gathers information associated with behavior of a first user, wherein a list of contacts on a communication system for a second user contains the first user. The system can select, from the information, an information snippet related to a current activity context of one of the first user or the second user. The system displays the information snippet to the second user while the second user interacts with an identifier of the first user in the current activity context. In one variation, the system can further detect a request for information from the second user, and display the information snippet to the second user in response to the request.

Abstract: A user experience for processing and cropping images is provided. A menu of image processing modes may be displayed by a computing device. A selection of one of the image processing modes from the menu may then be received. An image may then be received by the computing device. Abstract: Methods and systems executing an embedded application within the context of a first client application are provided. One method includes executing application logic to adjust states of one or more display objects and rendering one or more of the one or more display objects that are associated with a stage definition in a display region of the first client application. In response to a trigger event, the method causes the first application to generate a interface component, such as a pop-up, in the display region and pausing the rendering of the embedded application. The pausing includes generating a static image based on the states of the one or more display objects associated with the stage definition, associating the static image with the stage definition and disassociating the one or more display objects from the stage definition.

Abstract: In one example, a method for rendering graphical objects on a display includes rendering each of a plurality of graphical objects within respective layers. The plurality of graphical objects includes first, second and third graphical objects. Abstract: In embodiments of a touch-scrolling pad for computer input devices, a touch sensor strip detects touch contacts on a touch-scrolling pad that is implemented for vertical scrolling input and horizontal scrolling input. A selectable button positioned proximate below the touch sensor strip can be selected by an actuation depress input to the touch-scrolling pad. The touch-scrolling pad includes programmed instructions in firmware implemented to determine that a touch contact is one of a vertical scrolling input, a horizontal scrolling input, or the actuation depress input to actuate the selectable button. The touch-scrolling pad also includes a haptic system that generates haptic feedback responsive to either of the vertical scrolling input or the horizontal scrolling input.

The main remote control application may present images of original remote controls corresponding to devices which are controllable by the configured main remote control application. The user interface also allows a user to select amongst the images of the original remote controls to change which appliances are to be controlled via the user interface. An API is implemented in the notification framework and provided to developers to develop applications utilizing such API to communicate with the framework. A display mode of an active application is determined by the framework. A notification generated by an alerting application is captured by the framework. The framework determines a mode of delivery based on the display mode and the notification, and delivers the notification accordingly.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes generating a hover card associated with an entity in response to a user of a software application hovering a pointer over a reference to the entity within a graphical user interface (GUI) presented to the user by the software application. The hover card includes a photograph or icon representing the entity, a name of the entity, and a plurality of unified communications (UC) icons that are each configured to attempt to establish a particular type of communication session between the user and the entity. The method further includes presenting the hover card to the first user proximate to the pointer.

Abstract: A method of suppressing unwanted windows created by an operating system is described. The method comprises: monitoring calls from the operating system relating to creation of a window and ascertaining if a monitored call relates to creation of a window of a type corresponding to a window type to be blocked. If the window is not of a type that is to be blocked, then the method involves displaying the window. If the window is of a type that is to be blocked, then the method involves: registering a new window procedure for that window; and returning an error message to the operating system using the new window procedure to suppress display of the window.

The light functions include providing an indication of the age of a received message that was sent by a contact in the contacts list. The age of the message is indicated by a modulation of the illuminating light. In one embodiment, the age of a message is indicated as one of a set of predetermined age ranges, with each age range being represented by a unique color.
