Abstract: Applications on a computing device provide notifications associated with the application to a notification system. A notification includes an identification of content to be presented for the notification and an indication of when the content is to be presented. The notification system presents the notification content at the appropriate time regardless of whether the application is executing and without resuming execution of the application if the application is not running. Various power efficiency techniques are also used to determine which notifications are presented and when a user interface is updated to reflect those notifications in order to avoid updating the user interface to reflect notifications that would not be observable (e.g., due to a power mode of the computing device).

Abstract: A method and device for providing information regarding applications installed on a device is provided. The method includes obtaining information based on a current state of each application installed on the device; and displaying the obtained information based on the current state of each application and information identifying each application.

Abstract: A computer application program can comprise multiple overlapping states associated with functionality or components of the application program. Simultaneous output of all such states can be impractical. Representative states can be defined in terms of the statuses of individual states relevant to a particular representative state. Additionally, representative states can be ranked, where multiple representative states that share the same ranking can overlap with each other, but not with other representative states. To avoid transitioning between states too quickly, and presenting output for too short a time, hysteresis mechanisms can be applied in the form of a set delay, a reset delay or a combination thereof. The duration of the set and reset delay can be established independently of each other and independently for each state. The output can be in accordance with the representative state associated with the current statuses of individual states, accounting for selected hysteresis mechanisms.

Abstract: Context sensitive script editing for form design is provided. In some embodiments, context sensitive script editing for form design includes receiving an indication to display a script editing interface, in which the indication includes a selected object within a sub-window of an editing application; obtaining a script associated with the selected object; and displaying a pop-up window that includes the script associated with the selected object, in which the pop-up window is displayed within the sub-window.

Abstract: A globe container includes a front-side spherical cap. A plurality of content items are arranged with a convex three-dimensional perspective on the front-side spherical cap. The globe container has a changeable virtual orientation that determines which of the plurality of content items are arranged with the convex three-dimensional perspective on the front-side spherical cap. The globe container allows selection of any of the content items displayed on the front-side spherical cap.

Abstract: Provided is a method for processing schemas in a storage system. A presentation of a schema in a graphical user interface (GUI) is comprised of multiple type nodes in a tree structure. Each type node comprises a hierarchical arrangement of a plurality of nodes including group nodes including a plurality of nodes and content nodes providing values. First user input selects one of the type nodes in the schema for a view. Second user input selects one of the nodes in the selected type node in the schema for a view. Third user input selects a node in the schema to indicate a root node of the schema for the view. The view includes the root node and at least one sub node of the root node and is added as a child to the selected type node.

Abstract: One aspect of the present invention includes management of the presentation of information on a display. In one embodiment, this includes defining a delimited area on the display for a predetermined activity, and identifying a new application, which when active, comprises an active location on the display that covers some or all of the delimited area. When the new application covers some or all of the delimited area, the active location of the new application is automatically changed so that the new application will not cover any of the delimited area. Accordingly, the delimited area of the display can be preserved for uninterrupted use by a user.

Abstract: A task dialog having a main instruction and a command region, and optionally a content and/or footer region, is automatically generated in response to a request from an application program. The task dialog main instruction is automatically sized and located so as to form a concise instruction or question located prominently in the dialog. A command region is below the instruction and includes UI controls for responding to the dialog. Optional content and footer regions can be used by a developer for inclusion of text that provides guidance to the user regarding the main instruction. If included, however, the content and/or footer regions are automatically sized and placed so that they do not obscure the main instruction or the command region controls.

Abstract: A method for displaying information to a user of a software application includes the steps of: receiving from a user a non-navigational input event evidencing an intention to change what the browser displays; and displaying information to the user responsive to content already displayed by the software application. A corresponding apparatus is also disclosed.

Abstract: An out-space actuator is selected to access an out-space user interface for a document editor program. An out-space actuator is associated with an in-space user interface having a displayed document. When the out-space actuator is selected, an out-space user interface is displayed that includes an expanded feature selection surface. The out-space user interface may be used to display one or more status panes for providing status information about a document being edited in the in-space user interface. Application features for affecting changes to a given document's status may be exposed in the out-space interface in proximity to associated status information. An out-space communication user interface (UI) component may be temporarily displayed in the document in-space user interface to communicate document status information that is presently available in the out-space user interface. A message bar may be displayed in the in-space user interface for communicating information from the out-space user interface.

A sorted anchor map, containing one or more target document to source document pairings, is generated. The pairings in the sorted anchor map are ordered based on target document identifiers.

Abstract: Context sensitive script editing for form design is provided. In some embodiments, context sensitive script editing for form design includes receiving an indication to display a script editing interface, in which the indication includes a selected object within a sub-window of an editing application; obtaining a script associated with the selected object; and displaying a pop-up window that includes the script associated with the selected object, in which the pop-up window is displayed within the sub-window.

Abstract: A computing system may perform a method comprising displaying, on a graphical user interface (GUI) on a display of the computing system, a plurality of initial animations to a user, each of the plurality of animations being displayed in response to an identical function call, having an identical visual appearance, and being displayed to prompt an input from the user. The method may also comprise monitoring, by a processor of the computing system, the user's input to each of the plurality of animations. The method may also comprise displaying, by the GUI, a subsequent animation to the user, the subsequent animation being displayed in response to the identical function call but having a different visual appearance than the plurality of initial animations, the different visual appearance of the subsequent animation being based on the monitored inputs.

Abstract: A minimized state navigation bar is provided for switching between modules within an expanded communication service such as email, calendar, contacts, tasks, etc. and for presenting preview peeks associated with each module to a user. The minimized state may be selected automatically based on user interface context or user action. A temporary preview of a module may be provided upon a hover action over the icons without actually needing to switch to a module. The preview may also be docked or pinned to a location on the main user interface so that it is displayed within the main user interface. New or interesting activity within each module may be highlighted by displaying an information badge next to an icon, for example.

Abstract: A navigation bar is provided for switching between modules within an expanded communication service such as email, calendar, contacts, tasks, etc. and for presenting preview peeks associated with each module to a user. A temporary preview of a module may be provided upon a hover action over predefined navigation bar locations such as icons and/or textual identifiers without actually needing to switch to a module. The preview may also be docked or pinned to a location on the main user interface so that it is displayed within the main user interface. New or interesting activity within each module may be highlighted by displaying an information badge next to a module name, for example.

Abstract: A user-activatable dashboard (also referred to as a unified interest layer) contains any number of user interface elements, referred to herein as “widgets,” for quick access by a user. In response to a command from a user, the dashboard is invoked and the widgets are shown on the screen. The user can activate the dashboard at any time, causing the dashboard to temporarily replace the existing user interface display on the user's screen. Once the dashboard has been activated, the user can interact with any or all of the widgets, and can configure the dashboard by adding, deleting, moving, or configuring individual widgets as desired. When the user wishes to return to the normal user interface he or she was working with, the user issues a command causing the dashboard to be dismissed. Once the dashboard has been dismissed, the previous user interface state is restored, allowing the user to resume normal interactions with the operating system.

The processor may be configured to activate a keyboard entry area on the touch screen display responsive to the sliding manipulation. The mobile computing device may include a cellular phone.

Abstract: Authorized priority alerts are permitted to “pop up” on top of a running screensaver in a computer display without suspending operation of the screensaver. A windows manager monitors for priority alerts from applications. If the screensaver is active in the display, the windows manager determines if the alert issuing application and alert type are permitted to breakthrough the screensaver. If so, an alert notification window identifying the content of the alert is generated and displayed in z-order on top of the screensaver, without interrupting the operation of the screensaver displayed underneath. Some notification windows implement security features by displaying only a portion of the content of the corresponding alert or completely obscuring the content of the alert and only notifying of the presence of the alert. An additional security feature requires the user to enter a password in the notification window before the content or type of alert is displayed.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for recommending and displaying a recommended application, in terms of context, from among a plurality of applications in an apparatus are provided. The method includes: collecting context information of a user; determining at least one recommended application from among applications included in the apparatus based on the collected context information; and displaying the at least one recommended application based on the determination.

Abstract: A mobile phone (10) includes a flash memory (32) in which folders are set, a camera module, etc., and performs a camera function. In a state that the camera function is being performed, a through image and a saving folder icon (F1) corresponding to a saving folder are displayed. If a touch operation is made to the saving folder icon (F1), folder icons (F1-F3) corresponding to the folders are simultaneously displayed. If and when an arbitrary folder icon out of the folder icons displayed simultaneously is selected by a touch operation, a setting of the saving folder is changed. Then, if a user performs an imaging operation, an imaged image is saved in a changed saving folder changed.

Abstract: The present invention offers a snap-shot view which brings together, in one summary window, a limited list of common functions and commonly accessed stored data which itself can be reached directly from the main menu listing some or all applications. This yields many advantages in ease and speed of navigation, particularly on small screen devices.

Abstract: A centralized User Interface (UI) comprising a supplementary UI and a desktop UI is employed to bring in enterprise constructs into the desktop application. The supplementary UI is generated and dynamically positioned based on selections on the desktop application UI. Summary information associated with data that is to be synchronized or transferred between the desktop application and an LOB application is presented in the supplementary UI along with controls that enable a user to bind additional items to be synchronized.

Abstract: Disclosed are a mobile terminal capable of executing web browsing with consideration of a user's convenience, and a control method thereof. The mobile terminal comprises: a wireless communication unit which accesses any web page; a display module for displaying the accessed web page; and a controller for automatically displaying popup windows in a virtual space when the accessed web page has any popup windows. Popup windows can be hidden at the time of web browsing, and the hidden popup windows can be displayed according to a user's necessity. This enhances the user's convenience.

Abstract: A method and system to display a pop-up window when a user leaves a website are disclosed. A user accesses a website with a web browser. When a web page from the website is loaded into the user's browser, a client-side variable is set to a particular value, such as the current time. When the web page from the website is unloaded from the browser, a hidden pop-up window is loaded. The hidden pop-up window is programmed to sleep and then check the value of the client-side variable. A change in the value of the client-side variable indicates a new web page from the same web server has been loaded into the web browser and the user has not left the website. However, if a web page from a different web server is loaded into the browser, then the value of the client-side variable remains unchanged. Consequently, when the hidden pop-up window awakes and checks the value of the client-side variable, the pop-up window can determine whether the user has left the original website.

Abstract: A method for providing an in-vehicle notification service on a head unit device is provided. The method includes receiving a notification message including event information regarding an event from a mobile device, upon an occurrence of the event; generating an action request message requesting execution of an application related to the event based on the event information and transmitting the action request message to the mobile device; and displaying a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to a user according to the execution of the application.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and techniques for providing context menus based upon gestured input are provided. Example embodiments provide a Gesture Based Context Menu System, which enables a gesture-based user interface to invoke a context menu to present one or more choices of next actions and/or entities based upon the context indicated by the gestured input and a set of criteria. In overview, the GBCMS allows an area of electronically presented content to be dynamically indicated by a gesture and then examines the indicated area in conjunction with a set of criteria to determine and present a context menu of further choices available to the user. The choices may be presented in the form of, for example, a pop-up menu, a pull-down menu, an interest wheel, or a rectangular or non-rectangular menu. In some embodiments the menus dynamically change as the gesture is modified.

Abstract: A system may include a computing device configured to provide a proactive user interface, the proactive user interface configured to selectively propose suggested actions when a user of the computing device is determined to be in a passive mode. The computing device may include a proactive user interface module configured to: wait for at least one event, determine whether trigger criteria are met based on the at least one event, and when the trigger criteria are met, propose a suggested action to the user based on the at least one event.

Abstract: In a method for presenting information, an interactive document, for example, may be created that includes both an input expression and a result generated by evaluating the input expression, and where the input expression can be selectively hidden. This may permit “decluttering” of the document so that it may be easier to follow. At the same time, user interface mechanisms allow a viewer to reveal the input expression if the viewer desires to see the input expression. In this method, an input expression and a result corresponding to an evaluation of the input expression are presented on a workspace associated with a computational software application. Additionally, a first user interface mechanism associated with the input expression is presented on the workspace. In response to an activation of the first user interface mechanism, the input expression may be hidden on the workspace, while the result is presented on the workspace.

At least one dynamic bar is provided for displaying on a main screen of a graphical user interface for controlling the apparatus. Each dynamic bar is associated with respective one or more interfaces for applications and/or functions provided by the apparatus and each dynamic bar has a pop-up interface for providing at least one of preview information determined from information managed by the applications and/or functions and links to invoke said respective interfaces.

Abstract: An electronic device and a method for operating application programs are provided. In the method, an application program listing frame is displayed on a touch screen of the electronic device, wherein the application program listing frame comprises a first icon corresponding to a first application program. When a first touch operation applied to the first icon is detected by the touch screen, the first application program is launched. However, when a second touch operation applied to the first icon is detected by the touch screen, a first simple frame related to the first application program is popped out from the application program listing frame while the first application program is not running. A size of the first simple frame is smaller than the application program listing frame, and the first touch operation is different from the second touch operation.

Abstract: A method includes determining that an overlay is to be displayed at a predetermined area on a touch-sensitive display, the overlay being operable to be closed in response to a user providing a touch input at predetermined location within the predetermined area of the overlay; detecting the presence of a digit proximate to a surface of the touch-sensitive display; determining a digit location, the digit location being a location on the surface of the touch-sensitive display to which the digit is proximate; comparing the digit location with the predetermined location; and if the digit location corresponds to the predetermined location, modifying the operation of the overlay so as to prevent closure of the overlay in response to a touch input provided at the predetermined location.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a chemistry and physics calculator for helping a user to solve chemistry and physics problems. The calculator does more than calculating numbers or solving equations; rather, the calculator includes an adaptable menu and sub-menu system that helps a user analyze a problem, determine the type of the problem, and helps a user choose equations that are needed to solve the problem. The calculator includes at least some of these topics: balancing equations, stoichiometry, gas laws, equilibrium, dimension analysis, electrochemistry, electricity, Newton laws, thermodynamics, properties of matter, mirrors and lenses, Ohm's law, and Kirchhoff's Law. Additionally, the calculator prompts users to input units for variables, performs unit analysis, and displays results with units. The invention can be implemented as a handheld calculator, as a computer program, or as a program for a handheld device such as a smart phone.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide for improved navigation in a user interface and access to search results. More specifically, embodiments of the present invention provide for persisting and retrieving search results based on a context of the search results and an application providing those results. For example, one embodiment of the present invention allows a user to access previous search result from a current page of a user interface, e.g., by clicking on an icon in the interface page. Additionally, these previous results can be made available without requiring the user to leave a current page in order to view the saved results. For example, the previous results can be indicated and accessible though an icon on the breadcrumb menu that, upon the user clicking of otherwise selecting the icon, causes the user interface to render the previous search results in a pop up dialog without leaving the current page.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for providing information during content breakpoints in a virtual universe. The system comprises a placement engine configured to detect a content breakpoint within a virtual universe, which is defined as at least one of a login process, a logoff process, a teleportation, a wait state, and during any point where a user changes information streams in the virtual universe. The system also comprises an insertion resolution engine configured to create a list of prioritized information to present to a user within the virtual universe and an information definition engine configured to present the prioritized information to the user of the virtual universe during the content breakpoint.

Abstract: An apparatus, method, and computer program product are provided for spatially indicating notifications to a user via display regions that are arranged (e.g., perimeterally) about the display of an apparatus. The apparatus may include a processor and a memory including computer program code which provide for the presentation, in a first display region, of an indication of a notification associated with a first application and provide for the presentation, in a second display region, of a non-pictorial indication of a notification associated with a second application. The first and second display regions may, for example, be arranged along the edges of a polygonal display. As such, a user may be able to quickly discern which application is responsible for a particular notification, and the user's view of an underlying application provided on the display may not be obscured or diminished as a result of the issuance of the notification.

In one or more implementations, an immersive environment module is configured to provide an immersive shell through which a user may interact with applications of a computing device. The immersive environment module is further configured to provide a desktop shell within the immersive shell to support additional techniques for interaction with the application of the computing device. The desktop shell, for instance, may be configured for accessibility similar to that provided to applications in the immersive shell.

Abstract: A method and system for providing context dependent pop-up menu icons that activate menu icons in response to a select & drag operation by manipulation of a pointing device. Presented icons may correspond to functions or actions that can be implemented with the particular type of content selected. Icons may be displayed in a consistent manner in terms of position and content with respect to the selected file or object. Icons may appear only during a select & drag operation, thereby leaving the display uncluttered at other times. Presentation of icons may be discontinued when the selected file or object is dragged beyond the area of the presented icons. New applications can register with the operating system to specify icons to be presented when corresponding files are selected or when particular content objects are selected within the application.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes systems and methods for techniques of prompting a user to discover, navigate, initiate a tooltip or otherwise call the user's attention to and use any augmented content of web pages provided by the systems and methods described herein. For any one or more augmented keywords of a loaded web page, a user interface element may be positioned next to or near the keyword to call the user's attention to the keyword. For example, a floating user interface callout box above the keyword may have text, such as the word “Discover” and a pointer to the augmented keyword.

Abstract: A user-assisted security software program alerts a user when a new pop-up is displayed from a suspicious source application. If the source application may be suspicious if it has a low reputation. Displayed in connection with the pop-up, the alert prompts the user to indicate whether the source application that generated the pop-up should be trusted. If the user indicates that the source application is not trusted, the security software declares the source application to be malicious. The malicious code can then be dealt with, such as by removing it from the computing system, blocking it from generating new pop-ups, and preventing further network communications. The user's feedback about the source application may also be used to adjust the application's reputation.

Abstract: Prompting user confirmation of an action in a display window on a display of a mobile electronic device including displaying a pair of soft key icons, receiving a request to initiate an action from a user and displaying a confirmation message to confirm that a user wishes to proceed with the action. When the confirmation message is displayed, the pair of soft key icons are modified to create a pair of updated soft key icons. The receiving of the request may include detection of a soft key event. The updated soft key icons provide a first response and a second response to the confirmation message for selection by the user. The soft key icons and updated soft key icons may be displayed at the bottom portion of the display in a manner that does not obstruct the display window.

Abstract: Various technologies and techniques are disclosed that relate to providing interactive television by synchronizing content to live and/or recorded television shows. Content is synchronized without the use of in-band triggers. A broadcast stream is received, and search/action pairs are received from a transmission path, such as from the Internet or user. When the search criteria are found in the broadcast stream, the associated action is performed and the content is synchronized with the show. An application programming interface is used to facilitate synchronization, and includes a set search method, a search function template method, and a clear search method. The set search method initiates searching of the broadcast stream and registers one or more callback methods for performing the associated action when the match is found. The search function template serves as the template for registering the callback methods. The clear search method clears the system resources from the search.

Abstract: A control device controls an external storage device with a plurality of storage units which can be driven and stopped independently. The control device comprises: a display control unit; a setting unit; and a control signal output unit. The display control unit displays on a display a selection screen that allows a user to select which storage unit from among the plurality of storage units to operate. Abstract: A mobile terminal including a user input unit configured to receive user-inputs, a wireless communication unit configured to wirelessly communicate with at least one other terminal, at least one camera configured to capture images, a touchscreen configured to display a camera preview image captured by the camera, a position-location processor configured to obtain information on a current position of the mobile terminal, and a controller configured to display textual object information on the touchscreen identifying objects included within the preview image based on the obtained current position of the mobile terminal.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes an image reader for reading an image. A display controller displays the read image on a display device. A determination unit receives an area specified by an operation performed on the image displayed on the display device so as to determine a processing area to be subjected to predetermined image processing. A setting unit sets an operation area for providing an instruction to execute the predetermined image processing on the processing area determined by the determination unit, the operation area being based on an end point of the area specified by the operation.
